Ummm...I don't know how this is good news. What if we get turned down by EVERYONE else? Then we don't even get this guy...

Please, Lord God in heaven, let Stoops or Peterson or Whittingham come to UT. Someone worth getting excited about!

he was the OC and QB coach for the texans, Air Force has ran the option for years just think he runs that offense at AF b/c of the lack of talent, I would not see him running that at UT, but I dont know how good he would recruit that would be the main concern.

If there is one place or a couple places that you do not use the news to say one thing and be doing anothere it is at our service schools. I would completly agree with everyone if this was not the Air Force. This is done he is not coming here. On one hand I am really glad to hear it, I did not want him as the coach. On the other hand if this guy does not even consider the job who would. Did someone merge Vandy and UT late last night or am i missing something.

I find it funny for myself to see so many people claiming to bail on UT if they hire Calhoun just because he runs the triple option. Who's to say he'd bring it to UT in the first place...but I find it ironic that everyone just assumes that it won't work despite what Paul Johnson has done at Ga. Tech and what Navy has been able to sustain after he left there.

As you can tell from my name, I follow Georgia Southern and our fan base just went through the opposite of what's going on here. We ran PJ's triple option from our first football season in 1984 till 2005. In that time we became the most dominant team in 1-aa, 6 National Championships and numerous SoCon Championships. In 2006 our AD fired our coach and brought in Brian Van Gorder who scrapped the triple option and went 3-8. The next coach ran the same offense as Mike Leach and went 7-4, 6-5 and 5-6. The fans have been going nuts asking to return to the triple option.

Our new coach this year was one of PJ's assistants and we're going back to the 3-O. The fans couldn't be happier.

The 3-O works in I-A ball...it'll work in the SEC too.

While he may not have said the exact words, I am out..
He is basically saying that he doesn't plan on going anywhere.
Volnation has also made it clear that we don't want him.

Sorry, but that article does not confirm anything!! IMHO, it has "Yes they have contacted me, and yes I would be there as soon as an jet plane could get me there if they offer"!! Just my .02!!

He hasn't even done that well at Air Force. Ga Tech fails agaisnt anyone with time to prepare.

He would never run the triple option at Tenn.

He was a NFL O-coordinator, when will some of you people wake up to that?

He is a former OC at Texas and the only reason he runs option at AF is it fits with the athletes they have. Could mean he has to COACH if he can run two systems.

when was the last time Navy beat SEC caliber competition? ga tech beat georgia last season, but then proceded to get steamrolled by LSU in the CFA bowl, and get beat by a horrible georgia team this year. the triple option is however capable of beating miss st. and vandy, so that would be something to look forward to.

From my point of view and having to play him every year, he is everything Fisher Deberry was and more. He can beat you with multiple looks and formations, he just uses the triple option as their base O.

from my earlier post:
The only reason the triple option is no longer popular is because players are all about themselves these days and not team oriented enough for such an offense. Nebraska ran that offense with top notch talent and look how they dominated. It is the most potent offense in football with talent. We run the spread here at UW, which could be considered just as "gimmicky" A pro style offense is certainly not the best X's and O's out there but it's there for recruiting and all the "me" 5-star athletes.

Kiffin was the football equivalent of Kevin O'Neil. I guess Troy Calhoun will play the role of Jerry Green. At least we would only be 2 more hires and a decade away from a good coach and winning again.

If we hire Calhoun, we'll lose so many of our recruits it will be the equivalent of probation or worse.

For one year MAYBE. WE won't lose them all. 5 of them are stuck and Bray is a huge piece. You gotta have a qb. Next year will stink, I might give you that. But he will start to recruit and build a solid team and the man appears to have class. I would like to have a coach right now who doesn't act like a brat.
