I’m glad you happy with a get from a Division II player. I see you have the same high standards. After this season, you will be agreeing with me about picking up D-2 players. There is a reason he is a D-2 player.
You certainly know better than that inexperienced line coach named Garner. Have you shared your view with him?

Such ignorance. ACU (Abilene Christian) has fostered 43 NFL players. Mostly at the D2 level, and a few since moving to FCS. And that's just one example. Grand Valley State is an exceptional program with exceptional coaching and multiple titles. With Judon currently playing LB for the Falcons. I'm guessing you got squat, and likely run a 5.6 20 yard waddle. One thing we can agree with you on is you were never good enough.

Jesse "The Hammer" Tuggle, got overlooked by all colleges out of high school and ended up at D2 Valdosta State. Then got overlooked in the draft. Then the coach hauled him to Flowery Branch and pleaded with the Falcons to just look at him. 30 minutes into a personal workout as a favor to the coach, they signed Tuggle as a LB, and he played his entire NFL career for them. A pro bowl LB at that. Benched 428 pounds in HS and still holds our HS record after 42 years. And not just a podunk HS. A Clas 4A HS, which was highest in the state then. Same HS as Willie Gault. Same HS that has had 22 Alumni in the NFL. #41 in the country for that, and only GA HS ranked in that list.

Moral of that sometimes, big fish in big ponds don't even cast a reflection, but if you know where to find them the fishing can be great. You don't have to be an 8A 5* HS player from the SEC to be good. We've had boat loads of those guys that were crap. Yes, there are reasons players end up D2. Not all of those reasons are valid for keeping them out of Big Boy ball. D2 is represented fairly well in the NFL as we speak. To the tune of 46 on NFL rosters at the start of the 2024 season. Atleast a dozen of them were starting. 83 began pre-season rosters. So pardon the rest of us if we don't share your lack of knowledge in this thread.
First two words of your post is a spot on description of 24's posting..........

I’ll say this. He’s got a mean highlight tape

If we signed a black juco player with that highlight tape our fans would be calling him the next Albert Haynesworth. But since he's a white guy who played at Grand Valley State most people assume he can't play. Looks to me like he can!

Such arrogance. Pat yourself on the back and tell us how smart you are. Most people that have to act like they know it all, don’t know anything. Just like to hear themselves talk.

Nah. Looked it up as any reasonable would when repsonding to claims that a person's/player's worth is only valued by the name or division of the school.

The bold is a dual adge sword you just daggered yourself with, as you instantly let everyone know he wasn't any good because he was D2. Seems you know nothing as well.

You are correct, I know nothing. With that said, if the likes of Alabama, Texas, Georgia or Florida were after him…..then your argument is valid. We CANNOT continue to compete with the upper echelon in SEC Football with D-2 schools. That’s all I was trying to say.

And now most everyone on this site believes he is an all SEC player. UT football staff handing out orange colored glasses. Just crazy how are standards are falling.
Not one person has stated that. No one has even stated that he will be a starter. Everybody knows he is a depth piece, if they get any more out of him than that will be a bonus. UT doesn't need starters, they have that already. They do need depth and that is all he is. CRG has shown he knows talent and will get the best out of whomever he coaches.

We didn't take the entire roster. Coach targeted a specific player they likely spent hours evaluating in film, as well as conversations to guage him for our program. And to our knowledge is the only D2 player we picked up. Also not like we loaded our roster with them. This was ONE specific player they targeted. There are NFL grade players in D2, period. There were two D3 players on 2024 NFL rosters. Doesn't mean they will rule the draft. Most may even go UDFA, with outliers actually getting drafted. Most go to a job. But, there are players around those leagues worthy of getting picked up, because there are even more that can hold there own on the depth chart of bigger schools.

And if there's nearly 100 D2/D3 players on pre-season rosters, and half make the final rosters, I'd say teams missed out on 50-100 players of NFL talent when they overlooked them in portal, if they entered.

Walter Payton - Got ZERO SEC offers. Played NAIA football. Darrell Green, Gene Upshaw, Harlon Hill, Damon Harrison...all NAIA products. And a pretty good list besides them. Some of the schools are now D2, but were NAIA at the time.

Agree you can't build your entire portal roster around ALL D2/D3/NAIA players. Doesn't mean you won't find NFL cailber players there either.

Now come on, don't let the facts get in the way of jacksonvol24's agenda.

Wow. We get a GVS player. We really have high standards. We have a great portal staff. All I can say is Wow how Exciting.
Hmmm, he is liked by our defensive line coach. Rodney Garner is considered one of the elite defensive line coaches in D1 football. I definitely trust his evaluation more than an anonymous ninny hiding behind a keyboard. There could be a 1000 reasons he was at Grand Valley State and just came into his own. Different sport...did you criticize Dalton Knecht who came from the powerhouse of Northern Colorado. How about Chaz Lanier coming from the awesome North Florida. Same sport, how a coach that transferred from incredible Snow College in Utah to become a NC QB and Heisman runner up? Any of those ring a bell? CJH says hi.

Wow comparing the two. Now that took sometime to come up with that one. Lol.
Not comparing him to Cam Ward. Just making the point that there are many NFL players that weren't heavily recruited in high school, went to Community Colleges first or smaller 4 year schools or walked on at bigger schools and were discovered later...... like Aaron Rogers, Josh Allen, Khalil Mack, Hunter Renfro, etc, etc.

Automatic great pickup. What DLineman who can push a LT backward several yards and push him into the QB for a sack? Answer; a really good one, no matter the level.

His sizzle reel shows me he is driven by a motor; hustle, range, tackles in space, and aggressive, violent kick coverage.
I feel good about this kid. He was just manhandling his opponents.

Looks like an athlete too. He was playing defense and special teams. That's impressive stamina for a big guy.

Ohio State has taken players from Duquense, and Idaho State in their 2025 transfer class. neither of which was considered all that high in the portal.
Okay, now compare the rest of their class to ours and the classes before that.

If the goal is to be an 8-4 type of program that wins 9 or 10 in a year with a favorable schedule, this is fine. If the goal is to compete for championships, it’s a little concerning that they look at the receiver group and say “nah we’re good” and then go out and make their big post-Spring swing a guy who got honorable mention in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. There’s a reason the elite programs aren’t built on Diamonds in the Rough.
