Wasn't "this guy" player of the year in the conference?
No He made the honorable mention team for the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Honorable Mention team was for players who didn't make the 1st or 2nd team award. So essentially he was a third team all conference player for some 2nd division conference.

Such ignorance. ACU (Abilene Christian) has fostered 43 NFL players. Mostly at the D2 level, and a few since moving to FCS. And that's just one example. Grand Valley State is an exceptional program with exceptional coaching and multiple titles. With Judon currently playing LB for the Falcons. I'm guessing you got squat, and likely run a 5.6 20 yard waddle. One thing we can agree with you on is you were never good enough.

Jesse "The Hammer" Tuggle, got overlooked by all colleges out of high school and ended up at D2 Valdosta State. Then got overlooked in the draft. Then the coach hauled him to Flowery Branch and pleaded with the Falcons to just look at him. 30 minutes into a personal workout as a favor to the coach, they signed Tuggle as a LB, and he played his entire NFL career for them. A pro bowl LB at that. Benched 428 pounds in HS and still holds our HS record after 42 years. And not just a podunk HS. A Clas 4A HS, which was highest in the state then. Same HS as Willie Gault. Same HS that has had 22 Alumni in the NFL. #41 in the country for that, and only GA HS ranked in that list.

Moral of that sometimes, big fish in big ponds don't even cast a reflection, but if you know where to find them the fishing can be great. You don't have to be an 8A 5* HS player from the SEC to be good. We've had boat loads of those guys that were crap. Yes, there are reasons players end up D2. Not all of those reasons are valid for keeping them out of Big Boy ball. D2 is represented fairly well in the NFL as we speak. To the tune of 46 on NFL rosters at the start of the 2024 season. Atleast a dozen of them were starting. 83 began pre-season rosters. So pardon the rest of us if we don't share your lack of knowledge in this thread.
I think it's funny that people pick out the exception to the rule to try and prove their point. What about the thousand other D2 players who didn't make it? 🤣🤣

If we signed a black juco player with that highlight tape our fans would be calling him the next Albert Haynesworth. But since he's a white guy who played at Grand Valley State most people assume he can't play. Looks to me like he can!
LOL so dumb. Wtf does his race have to do with anything?

LOL at the anger over people being confused about the pick up of a third team all conference player from D2 🤣🤣🤣

Touche. How about the thousand other D1 players that didn't make it. After all, fewer than 2% of NCAA athletes go pro. 😅 😅 😅

Any single person that actually does go pro...IS the exception to the rule.

I think it's funny people think they know what their dinking on, but they don't. The entire conversation was about dissin on the coaches choice to sign an exception to the rule, not that all D2 players are capable. Not that all D1 players are capable, but that wasn't the conversation either.

Jokes on you.

Okay, now compare the rest of their class to ours and the classes before that.

If the goal is to be an 8-4 type of program that wins 9 or 10 in a year with a favorable schedule, this is fine. If the goal is to compete for championships, it’s a little concerning that they look at the receiver group and say “nah we’re good” and then go out and make their big post-Spring swing a guy who got honorable mention in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. There’s a reason the elite programs aren’t built on Diamonds in the Rough.
you act like there is an infinite number of just plain diamonds, and our coaches can't be bothered to get them. there aren't. the established players are going to go to the established programs. you are parroting the Pruitt mindset, swing for the fences, and when you miss, have nothing left.

Heupel has been building the program, I get its not fast enough for you instant gratification millennials, but its happening. before Heupel we were struggling to get in players that would have been Ohio State's second choice at a position. this year we went and beat them out for the #1 OT in the nation. yeah, one win in recruiting doesn't fix 15 years of us sucking, but nothing is. we could drag in the #1 class and have nothing. Bama is still the most talented team, and all that got them was 9-4 and owned by the state of Tennessee. Ohio State was very hoohum all season until they turned it on in the playoffs, heck most college football fans assumed Day was going to get fired after their loss to Michigan, again. so even their success isn't flawless.

accepting that we aren't there YET, doesn't mean we should stay right where we are. its just accepting reality and acknowledging the improvements where they happen. before we made it to the playoffs, this boards mantra was "just make it to the playoffs", no one cared how it happened. we aren't even a full offseason removed from hitting that major checkpoint, and already its not enough to trust the process.

I can hear Garner now. "Schell! The recruiting process is over! Now, see these cones? I need you to run around the outside, and see? I got this stick
with the ball attached, so you come around the outside, knock the ball off the stick, dive on the ground, recover the ball, and get back in line so
you can do it again, and shut up when grown folk is talkin', you heard me!?"

We brought in one transfer receiver in this class. And it was a guy who hasn’t played a snap. After losing 3 of our top 4 guys and like 6 total. So to me, it’s pretty concerning that we are out here taking guys from D2 schools. You can always swing for the fences and still have your pick of D2 guys, but by all indications, we aren’t even walking to the batter’s box at big positions of need.

This has not been a good offseason for this program. So much so that probably the biggest positive is that our QB left. And we turned around to spend that freed up money on an Honorable Mention All Great Lakes Conference Guy. This BS about “Bama has the most talent and went 9-4” is just a ridiculous attempt at coping that I would be embarrassed to ever utter.

At this point, I think you should just take a couple shots of Jack and go lay down. I sincerely hope you have low stress employment. Also hope you have a personal identity outside Vol boards.

{Tip: This is one of those instances where I am replying to you, but the "you" could be deemed plural and apply to quite a few folks round here.}

you are making the assumption that we only brought in this guy because of Nico leaving. I doubt they are at all related. I haven't seen a price tag on this guy, but I doubt its anywhere close to what any of the qbs are getting now.

we also brought in a couple 4* Wrs, one of whom the coaches have raved about. and we kept our highest rated WR in Mathews, that was an NIL win, and we saw them give Boo WR reps. they aren't ignoring the problem. I would get your point if this was Dooley OL recruiting, but its simply not.

what's coping about pointing out facts? Jimbo should have won at least one title with his class. 24 schools had the same number, or more, players drafted than us, and only about 5 of them ended up ranked higher than us. we are getting better, I know you expect it to be instantaneous but that's simply not the case.

Sign the dad as well...package deal.

Can plug the A gap, B gap, plus C, D, E gaps.

Leaves nine men to attack the ball

Elite D-ll player who moonlights as a pitcher on the baseball team. What’s not to love considering we are thin on the interior. If he’s not ready then CRG won’t play him, if he is then he’ll be the new Jaxson Moi. With our nutrition staff he’ll be 305 in no time. Good pick up IMO

Bad angles, kind of a plodder, lost contain, but a great bull rush. I think he was playing out of position in D2. 10-15 more pounds and move him inside and he can plug holes.

Great post. Tuggle was a BEAST. Hubbs said that Garner and assts are saying this guy will be a rotational player this season, and a leader in the Dline room next season as a senior . I dont care who he was playing against, his film is ridiculous. Relentless effort through the whistle. Hubbs also said he is gonna play the 3 technique (,Dtackle, not End).

If Rodney Garner is excited about a guy, count me as excited too. End of story.

Automatic great pickup. What DLineman who can push a LT backward several yards and push him into the QB for a sack? Answer; a really good one, no matter the level.

His sizzle reel shows me he is driven by a motor; hustle, range, tackles in space, and aggressive, violent kick coverage.
I feel good about this kid. He was just manhandling his opponents.

Looks like an athlete too. He was playing defense and special teams. That's impressive stamina for a big guy.

Kid chose GVS because he was wanted by the baseball coach too. Played both sports at ~285LBS. We were lucky to get him. Rotation player that will be a leader in that room next year in 2016 as a senior. He is so excited to get here also. Go VOLS

People doubting Coach Garner judgment on recruits is crazy work.

Many of whom likely never played a snap in their lives with pads on. NegaVols gonna nega though i guess. OR it could always be dipstick fans of other schools just trolling VN....either way yall suck.

Can't be impressed with his pedigree but that video is impressive. I get that he's playing inferior talent but he's got a maulers attitude.
I like he keeps his eye and intent for the ball carrier. Some DLs get so intent on winning battle vs an OL they let the QB or RB go right by them while they say by gawd whipped that OL, they win the battle but lose the war. May be depth piece but may surprise and he's got more than 1 year.
