Trade Wars and Tariffs

So you're opposed to private industry giving bonuses to their employees and investing in their plants?
I gather the "trade wars and tariffs" forum confused you again Hogg.

No, donkey, I'm opposed to the moronic tariffs Trump is imposing, not imposing, imposing, not imposing, imp... you do realize Trump literally has no ****ing clue what he's doing, right? If not, break out the Kool Aid and guzzle.

The bonuses Nippon has agreed to pay US Steel employees have nothing to do with the tariffs so it looks like you just pulled a Trump, didn't know what you were doing.

It's more than appropriate for private industry to pay bonuses to their employees for performance, or for whatever reason they choose to give a bonus. That being said, if it's given because of bailout money it's an adverse affect to our economy

It's not coming from US taxpayers, it's a bribe from Nippon to get the steelworkers union to stop fighting the merger/buyout.

The market is the market and supply and demand is the law that governs it.

When you try to plan the economy from the top down, and then blame businesses for responding to new artificial and perverse incentives, doesn't that make you some kind of Marxist?
How about that nazi salute

Is it contingent upon that edict? Or, is it going to be paid regardless of the results of any union vote?

That distinction matters

I don't know the particulars but I think it was an offer made to the union contingent upon them stopping their opposition to the merger/buyout. My guess is if the union didn't get out of the way there wouldn't be any bonuses.

  • The spokesperson alleged the U.S. had "seriously undermined" and "violated" the trade agreement by issuing "export control guidelines for AI chips, stopping the sale of chip design software (EDA) to China, and announcing the revocation" of visas for Chinese students.
  • "If the U.S. insists on its own way and continues to damage China's interests, China will continue to take resolute and forceful measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," the spokesperson added, without elaborating further.
  • While Trump didn't go into details on his claims that Beijing had "totally violated" the trade deal, administration officials have pointed to delays in sending critical minerals to the U.S., which are needed for American auto, electronics and defense industries, that formed part of the agreement.

It was either Bessent or Miller.
I doubt either of them could do that. Unless maybe if Musk was really wasted.
Trump could start a televised 'MAGA MMA' tournament with cabinet secretaries, advisors and other high level executive branch staff as contestants. He could make some money with it.

So with the new 50% tariffs on imported steel and aluminum:

(1) What motivation now exists for domestic producers to innovate, invest in new technology and ensure their products are better than that of foreign firms?

(2) Who pays for the tariff?

(3) Do the new economic benefits to our domestic producers exceed the new economic costs to our end users of their products?

There'd be some incentive except we all know TACO.

(2) Who pays for the tariff?

The American consumers. It's effectively a tax on everyday Americans to give tax breaks to the wealthiest. And even then it doesn't cover the whole tab.

(3) Do the new economic benefits to our domestic producers exceed the new economic costs to our end users of their products?

Time will tell, but whatever effect it has will be short term due to TACO.

It definitely wasn't his 5 YO son. He said "punched." It's not plausible. Sure, if he got hit by a toy or something. Only a sick, old lady would bruise from a 5 YO punch.

I got a 4.5 YO I've been teaching to punch properly for 2+ years. He's got the thumb tuck right. He's coordinated and throws with some power. He can't bruise me.

there are a lot of blood vessels near the surface around the eye/upper skull. willing to bet you aren't letting your son punch you in the face with any power behind it.

Get him to turn those hips for more power, then those bruises will start showing up. The logical candidate for Musk’s black eye is Miller, though. He should’ve gone with the throat punch or on the chin for the KO if he really wanted to send a message.
