Trade Wars and Tariffs

It's an administrative stay (maybe a couple weeks) while the court considers the appeals process scheduling. It means nothing on the merits of the decision.

The recent court rulings only relate to using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Relates to declaring a national emergency (illegal immigrants, Fentanyl).

Section 122 grants temporary (150 days) authority to levy the administration’s 10% (up to 15%). It’s used for balance of payments deficits.

Section 301 extends tariff authority across all Chinese imports.

Section 232 can be used by showing national security issues.

Most things have some kind of precedent, so it's a pretty useless deflection.

Not really. I do believe Velo was a hard core Covidiot, fully supporting the .gov using emergency powers to trample us. We could probably find posts from him criticizing Amash for his stances on shut downs and mandatory vaccines so his post drips with hypocrisy. I don't pay much attention to you so I can't remember if you were a Covidiot or not but if I had to bet you know where my money would go.

Wow, did not see that coming and you missed the point. Covid was an actual emergency situation. I can't believe that's the precedent you were talking about. I thought you were talking about fake emergency war powers or something.

The point was about fake emergencies.

In no way am I surprised you missed my point. Once you allow the overlords to abuse their "emergency powers" everything will be an emergency and they 100% abused their powers during Covid.

You need to take the emergencies from our leaders seriously regardless of the administration that issues the warning.

Your point was to deflect

Emegency powers were used in every conflict since the last time we declared war. Calling out an actual emergency as the precedent when there are clearly fake emergencies that preceded that...

It's amazing to see people who claim they are for responsible government respond to the blatant expansion of power with deflections to the past. Never a word of criticism for the person doing it in the present.

Presidents have declared numerous fake emergencies in order to use their "emergency powers". Obama declared 12 national emergencies over complete BS that had nothing to do with the CONUS and 1 that was borderline in order to use emergency powers. Wanna show us your posts criticizing any of those? Be consistent for once.

I have posted plenty criticism of Trump. Now It's just fun to point out the hypocrisy of others when they said nothing while other POTI have done the same thing.

Lol. You keep proving the point

Ok, show me. Should be easy to find.
Just lost a lot of votes. Why do they have to be so stupid, that doesn't sound anything like limiting federal power. Just concentrate on the fiscal side and shrinking the federal government.

If you paid attention you would have seen several posts from me calling his statement dumb and stupid.

The stupid thumbs up is ripe for legitimate criticism

The dementia patient strikes again. Blocking this deal is just stupid, US Steel will end up being piecemealed off, stockholders will be screwed along with the workers (who deserve it for opposing the Nippon deal). Yes I know Trump stated he opposed the deal and that is just as dumb.

Biden Blocks Sale of U.S. Steel to Nippon Steel
.

I was?

Covid did kill a million Americans, so I think that's far less of a stretch to call that an emergency than someone buying bananas from Guatemala.

Yes, there are still other, more limited vehicles for the president to impose tariffs.

That doesn't mean he should.

So, not since he's been elected? Lol. I shouldn't have said never. I should have said rarely. I know you've done it, but I also find you regularly arguing against small government and rule of law.

You been playing defense for 5 months, bro.

I will state this, most countries in the world can add tariffs or do these activities and it isn't a big deal for the world. USA does it and the entire market panic. I think USA and China are the only two nations that truly have this level of economic power. EU also comes close but that isn't a single nation but rather almost an entire continent.

No, you shouldn't have said, "show me."

Then why did you send him fishing for examples? Especially when you yourself said they should be "easy to find?"

And you find a way to claim a "win" by trying to claim he is "playing defense" by pulling quotes you say you knew existed, but sent him to pull for you.

This isn't a good look, Huff. Sometimes a simple, "I was wrong" is the right response.

LOL

Did you notice one of his criticisms was actually about Biden, not Trump, calling him a dementia patient about a steel tariff. When it's Trump tariffs, he does not call him a dementia patient. He deflects. And this little mistake he made in quoting himself speaks volumes to my point.

One of them was a claim that he had been calling them "dumb and stupid."

He called a gesture dumb. Not policy. Nothing that serious. It was a gesture.

There's really not a lot there.
