as my understanding goes his art of the deal is about real estate, not global economics. assuming the same strategy works for both is insane.
just because his process is telegraphed doesn't mean its smart. in this case, its like a coach who runs off his right tackle whenever he is at 3rd and 2 no matter what, and the enemy team puts all 11 defenders to the right side of the offenses lineup. its easy to predict and unless you can adapt you are going to die on it, think Majors.
