Trade Wars and Tariffs

Boeing to China: “We’re sold out till 2030. Take a number.”

Goldman Sachs just dropped a quiet flex: China’s only ordered 28 Boeing planes since 2018, and now they make up a measly 2% of Boeing’s backlog. Translation? Beijing can puff its chest all it wants, but Boeing’s response is basically: “Cool story, bro. We’re booked.”

Beijing’s “retaliation” here is more theater than threat....a little geopolitical jazz hands to save face domestically. The reality? Boeing’s dance card is full. Global airlines are scrambling to lock in aircraft like it's Black Friday at Best Buy, and China’s absence is a rounding error.

So while Beijing throws shade, Boeing’s counting orders from customers who aren’t trying to play trade war chess every Tuesday. And Wall Street’s reading between the lines: “Performative retaliation” is code for “We want to look tough, but we still need planes.

China blinked. Boeing banked.

It's not such a trifling matter. Per the Seattle Times:
China has 130 unfilled orders on Boeing’s books, according to a list on the airplane manufacturer’s website. But analysts suspect that number is higher because a chunk of the 762 unfilled orders listed for unidentified customers are also likely headed to China.
Of the 130 planes Boeing delivered to customers so far this year, 18 went to China, according to Boeing’s website.
Boeing’s stock dropped 2.3% on Tuesday following the news reports.

It will drive beef prices down, more Americans will buy beef since the supply is more. Of course you would understand supply and demand evil.
Wait so you're arguing that losing our beef exports to China is actually a positive development? Do tell...

it's triffling.....China has a few small things they can do to attempt to negatively impact the US economy and they are quickly using up what little ammo they had....China will come to the negotiating table sooner rather than later.....like Japan

Yes of course, come in, leave all independent thought at the door, and repeat the party line just like the Biden parrots did for four years.

But the trillions in market cap loss sorta evens it out, right? MAGA! Deport the blacks and browns. Etc etc.

Don't worry guys, per @kiddiedoc, George Washington, Patton, and Eisenhower aren't gonna let this continue. They will ensure we win this trade war with China.

Ken Fisher, of Fisher Investments, a lifelong republican, has been shredding trump's economic policies in his recent communications. He is very blunt that trump has no idea what he's doing and that those levying the tariffs are hurt more than those the tariffs are levied against.

UBS has been critical of trump's economic policies in their recent communications.

WSJ has been very harsh in their opinions against trump's economic policies for the past couple of weeks.

Gavin, two words ... "no standing".

From the article:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday he is suing President Trump over his sweeping tariffs — claiming that the levies are “wreaking chaos” on the Golden State, which has the largest economy in the US.

The lawsuit will argue that Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose hefty tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, and a 10% tariff on all imports, is unlawful.

“President Trump’s unlawful tariffs are wreaking chaos on California families, businesses, and our economy — driving up prices and threatening jobs,” Newsom said in a statement. “We’re standing up for American families who can’t afford to let the chaos continue.”
