Trade Wars and Tariffs

I thought the purpose of the tariffs was to restore American manufacturing? If that's true, they should choose a course of action and stick with it. Give it a chance. The rationale behind the imposition of these tariffs seems ever-changing. These pauses and delays will accomplish nothing in the long run and only lead to great uncertainty.

How can such a President who makes such dramatic and apparently whimsical shifts be trusted? This isn't leadership. Trump is too unfocused and undisciplined.

Not to mention he’s just incredibly stupid.

Exactly! If the rationale behind these tariffs is to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States, they need to stick with the tariffs once imposed. It looks like the Trump Administration doesn't really know what their end game is. They just like the concept of protectionism.

it's a negotiating process and things change in processes....Trump purposefully started out with high tarriffs to get everyone to the negotiating table with Trump saying those that respond favorably get the best deals and those that retaliate get the worse. After nations responded Trump then lowered tarriffs where he always wanted them to begin with and he has nations negotiating new deals with China isolated. Trump has not backtracked or done uturns as the leftist media claim...constant FALSE attacks on Trump but defended Biden's mess and lied about his dementia. Left wing media (and Dems) is the biggest threat to democracy in this country.

LOL. That is wrong all over the place. There haven't been negotiations. I love this Trump is a 4-D chess player belief that his cult clings to, though. However, Trump is more of a pin the tail on the donkey player.

Trump has already paused the tariffs ..... and if the point of the tariffs is to restore American manufacturing (a ridiculous notion), then this is no way to go about it. He likes the perception of protectionism, but he doesn't really trust it. To think that Trump is out-thinking anyone at this point is absurd. His trade policies are inconsistent and don't follow any economic logic.

It's impossible to make sense of what Trump is trying to accomplish with these tariffs. The messaging has been all over the place and the execution slipshod.
OK. The big target is obvious. Maybe... just maybe... Trump is playing the long game like everybody else does. We'll see.

He's telegraphed his process since the 80s. Part of the plan is that people don't know what's coming.

That doesn't make any sense at all, within the context of the Trump administration's purported efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States, by way of protectionist policies.

lol

Think really hard and find the bits you've missed.

Also, manufacturing is already returning.

LOL. That is ridiculous.
What's ridiculous is your response.

"Look back 40 years. One of Trump's principles is that you probably won't know what he's really up to (i.e. he doesn't want it to make sense to you), no matter what he says during the process."

You: "That makes no sense, considering what he said during the process."

That's not what I said .... I said that it doesn't make sense within the context of his administration's efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States by way of protectionism, and it doesn't.

Companies aren't going to invest in long term projects, such as manufacturing plants, amid such uncertainty. Unpredictability is not always a good thing. Trump is unfocused and erratic.

Sigh...

I led you to water.

Have a nice evening.
