Total War: Warhammer

Sounds like my type of game then. I will be watching it closely. I still need to beat RotK 13...

watch some videos, or if you have steam pick up one of the old games for cheap just to get a handle on the mechanics. thats one of the best things about the game is that even if you only played the first couple games you could come right in and play the newest ones. they have added a bunch but the basics are still good enough to not have had major changes.

TK out today, probably this afternoon if they hold to their pattern. Also unlocking a new skaven character too (free).

played maybe 2 hours last night. you have to play REAL defensive early on. Your units die REAL fast. Even fighting other basic early armies your guys die. Unless you have a monster they all die quickly. Tomb Guard stick around a little and Knights and Stalkers aren't good front line troops. your skeletons just melt, not looking forward to fighting heavy infantry.

Been playing tomb kings and I enjoy the campaign, but it seems like it is an awful faction until you can get a good bit of monsters in each army. The infantry units are horrendous.

One of my cities rebelled and the rebellion army was absolutely ridiculous. The infantry was all tomb guard, the rest are ushabati, scorpions, necrosphinxs, hiereotitans, and literally every other monster in the game.

yeah its rough. you can't run the other armies by themself at all. I had to restart a Khalida campaign a bunch of times to get things right.

Not that I have seen. hard to go against a giant jade cat stomping fools.

I did further investigating and many mentioned that if you micromanage and use him properly with the chariot he is pretty good. I’m just not sure if that’s worth it though.

So I’m Settra and I’m doing diplomacy with Mannfred and I find it odd how he calls me “mortal”.

some of the interactions are odd.

I think they’re next big move would be to brush up on the Diplomacy UI. Not saying it needs to be like CIV, but it would be nice to see more uniqueness and character to the visuals and personalities of the other lords and what not. Or maybe different dialogue interactions between different lords to make it more personable.

How'd the TK's magic? I remember that being a big part of their tabletop play.

there is less healing than there should be imo. thats offset by the Realm of Skulls. but the right spells can be huge. nothing really to write home about as far as differences.

Dwarves are OP as hell. Essentially in this mega war against the dwarves (who happen to also be allied with vampire counts?) and it is just a never ending stalemate. The tomb kings have absolutely no infantry that can keep up with dwarfs and the cavalry is sub par as well to take advantage of the dwarves lack of cavalry. My hierotitans and War Sphinxes are nice until all my infantry gets decimated and they’re completely surrounded by swarms of dwarfs.

I haven't dealt with them in big numbers yet. but I have found that the halbred armed ones do ok. abandon your basic skeletons and go with the warriors, they do noticeable more damage and die at the same rate. they still lose but they do a little more hurt. you are pretty much going to have to bring a second army to fight them. try and stretch them out and focus down on units. basically don't send your big guys out by themselves. they can do a lot of good in support of your line infantry. kite some away and then rush back to the main line. abandon cav or only use to hunt cannons and such, as you stated they aren't heavy enough. but are also good for kiting.

Hmm thanks for the tip. I have fared okay with my battles, although I’ve been losing a bit more than I normally should. What’s killer is that the dwarves just keep sending stack after stack of insane high quality armies. Their economy is clearly broken right?

the issue is the game doesn't know how to balance any faction mid/late game. not to minimize your complaints but it can happen with any faction and I have played enough, read too much, so that I am used to it. The AI doesn't pay upkeep, none of them. the dwarfs do have the strongest economy so when you pair it with no upkeep they can just churn out the best. I don't know if I would say broke just as much as unbalanced, which is splitting hairs a bit on my part.

My longest campaign right now is as Mazdmundi, about 400 turns in. I have won the short campaign but not long. I am fighting the two vamp factions and they are non stop sending armies at me. I just had a battle this week that featured 5 of their armies vs 2 of mine. I won and took the settlement (5th army). It didn't effect their faction ranking in the slightest. they just have soo many armies and so much land to generate them the going is tough. I would say I hold 40% of the ME map, they hold 40% and then the various other survivors hold the other 20% which is mostly ulthuan and the north of Naggarond. it may be 50 30 now in my favor but it sucks.

Yeah I agree I have had a similar experience. In the beginning it’s fun with the diversity, but then once the mega factions grow and it’s basically just 4 or 5 factions who control the world, it gets tough as hell.

I still think they need to bring back the strong starting factions. that seemed a lot more balanced than this is.

also have you tried my advice vs the dwarfs? I don't know if I am f.o.s. half the time or not.

Didn’t get the opportunity to test it out because I got so frustrated with my Tomb King campaign I basically just rage quit that one and started a lizardmen one

heard that. I have a whole bunch of campaigns that get to about turn 150 in ME that just stop, or 100 in vortex.

I’ve yet to finish a vortex campaign yet. You think it’s still worth it even though I’ve been playing ME?
