Total War: Warhammer

my friend says that "Conquer Anywhere" will be the default in WTW 2. which I think is an incredibly good thing.

1. it simplifies the game mechanics. with 4 new factions in new places it would be really complicated to have it split up.
2. its more lore friendly
3. its just better game play

Since it will be developed from the get-go, do you think city defense scenarios will change depending on the faction who owns it?

Examples: giving the Skaven underground battlemap movement or giving beastmen increased vanguard/deployment opportunities.

somehow I doubt it. While sieges got better in some senses it got worse in others imo. Better AI, better wall fights, but the set battle locations and the towers leave me doubtful. At least in the first one it the siege battles were too short imo, I doubt you see that change or get complicated with faction specific stuff.

but it would make a ***** ton of sense and is begging to happen with most of the ideas/uniqueness being created.

that has been one of my biggest beefs. even with all the lore there is very little difference in some of the factions who should be completely different.

I downloaded the Steel Faith Overhaul mod to try and spice the game for me, and I'm glad I did. My Wood Elf campaign has been brutal. Playing on Hard, it's been a real struggle, but it's also been insanely fun. I actually feel like I'm playing as the WE as they were meant to be (fast, agile, potent at range, but frail in prolonged combat). With the addition of Tier 4 minor settlements that add walls I've been having to campaign just to take a minor city. Each one of my campaigns against a faction have been won by a series of heroic victories, which is a great challenge level.

Anyway, I'm just here to recommend it.

havent heard of that one. sounds like it is an overall campaign overhaul?

It's a total overhaul, campaign and battles. Some units, like Chosen, were buffed then had their numbers drastically reduced (I think 38 on Large unit settings). Combat moves a lot slower like in the old Total War games, so it makes real maneuvers possible.

The economy is rebalanced, too. I don't know the specifics, but the Wood Elf economy feels like it took a hit, and I've heard that WoC gets an econ boost. It also adds in T4 minor settlements for walls and building upgrades.

The other big thing I've personally noticed is the AI is building better armies. I stopped getting rushed by zombies right before mid-game when the vamp factions started trotting out Terrorgheists, Black Knights, etc.

even though they are good it is a crime how under powered WoC are compared to the lore

https://www.totalwar.com/blog/lizardmen-army-roster/

Lizardmen roster released. some interesting units were left off: razordorns, salamanders, engine of gods and ryperdactyls.

a few were added like all the feral units, i feel they will just be riderless. not sure how I feel about that. also no mention of krokigors joining the skink units.

and fwiw horned ones aren't a cannon unit, at least not in any of the three versions I have played. they are always mentioned but never saw the table top. I feel they will be a lighter, smarter cold one.

for those that don't know the lore the saurus will be the backbone of your melee army. should be a lot heavier than human stuff. Temple guard are the elite and should have some nice bonuses. you will have plenty of shock cav/heavy units with all the dinosaurs roaming the field. long range will be your major weakness, not sure how they will treat some of the machines they are adding, but I feel it will be like the Luminark, kinda cool to have and use but overall not incredibly useful, except for the dinosaurs they come mounted on.

Based on the lore they should have the strongest mages, but as WTW has played out every faction has been equalized too much so that probably wont show up. Slann should still be very good to have around.

as the king nerd for this game I feel no shame in pointing out that there is now a coast to the west visible on the world radar and that really excites me. too close to be Ulthuan (high elves) but it does have the general shape. could be Albion. I will be interested to see how the game treats some of these other places.

I kinda really, really like the creeping map growth. Really wish I had screen shot it or something at the beginning just to prove my point.

On the current game?

Devil trying out Steel Faith. I am really enjoying it.

my one complaint is I never get to be the aggressor. about 100 turns in and all my wars have been started as the defender. Wood Elves went bat**** crazy and started attacking people all over the place. One faction went after Karak Azul. One faction is following around random Beastmen hordes but never attacking them. one faction declared war on everyone that bordered Athel Loren. all of that from the very beginning. I am fighting a running war with one of them that started on turn 10.

Yeah be wary of the horde factions. Even 250 turns in I was still having to fend off Beastmen stacks that would suddenly pop up and raze 2-3 settlements before I caught them. Glad you're enjoying it. The AI is definitely more aggressive.

understatement.

Also be wary of the Greenskin menace. As WE I was about 80ish turns in and skirmishing the Dwarfs along the Border Prince provinces when suddenly 4 doomstacks each with a Waagh showed up and steamrolled everything. I only managed to stop them just outside King's Glade. Greenskins can be really insane in SFO.

ha. not the experience I had. the dwarves finished most of them off, and forced the rest north to Karak Drak where I finished them off.

the one thing I am still waiting for them to fix is some of the politics with the minor factions fighting wars against each other while one of the main evil factions is invading.

but it was interesting that Mousillon joined in on the chaos crusade, as in they helped fight chaos.

on their website they say that the combined campaign with 1 & 2 will not be go at launch. they want the game out, all of its kinks worked out before releasing it, also it sounds like they will be doing beta testing/balancing of the combined game during that time as well. kinda sucks, but it means I get to run through the campaign a couple times first.

FFA is making a comeback in multiplayer. Must have 4 players and it's based off of a points system. This is from the Total War Facebook page. I'd offer a direct link, but I don't know how any more. Must be getting old.

You want some multiplayer news for WARHAMMER II? You’re about to get a sight for saurus… (get it?)
Free-for-all will be returning to WARHAMMER II! Free-for-all is a multiplayer battle mode, where four players battle each other for victory. The winner is determined by score, which is gained by dealing damage to enemy units as well as being the last player standing. Free-for-all battles are played on bespoke maps, designed to channel player movement and reward active playstyles. Free-for-all matches will be available through the multiplayer battle list in Total War: Warhammer II.
It’s set to be a lot of fun, and we’re pleased to feature it. Just a few quick additional notes – FFA is only available in multiplayer battle list, only available as a four player mode, and as always these are our current development plans but may all change as development and testing progresses.
So good, you probably Terradon’t believe it!

the point system sounds a lot like the game. in some cases you can be tabled and still win.
