TOS Reporting 3 players likely to enter transfer portal

My initial thought was the 17 class gets more worthless by the minute...but it has produced Smith, Chandler, Palmer, Calbert, Butler, Bumphus, Bennett, Shamburger, Jackson, Cimiglia and several ST contributors (Page, Labruzza, etc.)...the ones that are buying in are actually providing some decent value to this team...

As for the ones that are leaving...the “team cancer” rumor has been out there for a while but no one ever puts names with it...I think that narrative is further supported with the more players from this specific class that leave...it makes you wonder who’s left that fits that description...

IMO...if it’s a true rumor then I think you should have dropped them from the start...I understand you need players to play but cancers are so detrimental to the team that letting them linger is worse than taking your lumps with a walk on or two...it would have sent a loud message to drop them and role with a walk on
You have to diagnose cancer before you can deal with it. Maybe the diagnosis was late. May the staff wanted to give them a chance and work with them. No one in this forum really knows. Either way the cancer MUST be gotten rid of or the body dies.

Those Ranking were based on pure recruiting ranking and did not account for attrition or how the rankings were conceived. For example Butch loading up w 31 players to inflate the ranking.
I understand, however, based on talent alone, at the worst we should be 3-1 right now

You have ZERO knowledge of why they are leaving.

Maybe it’s because of what if what you say.

Maybe it’s because things are totally messed up.

Maybe it’s because Tennessee is dysfunctional and they see better opportunities.

It’s a BAD look.

From what “true fans” say Tennessee is thin and they need a lot more recruits. The thinner Tennessee gets the worse the situation could get. IF ( we don’t know ) players leave because Tennessee is just bad or things are dysfunctional, getting “thinner” could make even more leave.

Have you looked at the portal lately? Lots of kids from around the country have entered it. It's just the way this transfer portal is going to work. Kids give things a shot until the 4th game and if they see they've been beaten out or recruited over, they pull the plug on the season and enter the portal.

Nothing wrong with it. It's the rules we all live under these days, but I agree with other posters in that this is necessary and in the long run, beneficial to this program. The sooner we flip the roster the better. Now Pruitt knows who we need to replace and he has time to alter his recruiting to help offset the losses....and they really weren't big losses.

See you just said that no one knows why they are leaving but then say with certainty it’s a bad look.

You make no sense.

House cleaning never is a good look, sometimes you just have to accept the fact that it needs to be done. Also gives more reps to the guys who want to be here!
Divorce is a much better analogy. Housecleaning, it's not. How is "House cleaning never a good look"? Isn't that the point of housecleaning.

Irreconcilable differences, rather than taking out the trash. Could be mutual parting of ways, or one sided.

But regardless all the "Bye Felicias", and "We are better off, now" seems like denial and justification.

No matter what, divorce is a bad look, is kind of embarrassing (What went wrong??), and always causes pain for both parties.

If they don’t want to be here, how is people applauding their departure “denial and justification”?

That’s a dumb analogy. At the end of the day, these 3 are more Butch players leaving, reportedly. Given how weak they played when in games, this means guys with a future like Crouch and Peterson will get more practice reps and playing time, who by the way are Pruitt’s guys.

If they don’t want to be here or feel they are recruited over, bye bye.

I’ve said this all year but the roster needs flushing. Can only turn it over 25 guys per year but sometimes having guys leaving us short of scholarship players is better than them hanging around half assing it.

This transfer portal is a bad deal. We have a butthurt society of young kids these days that if they don't get their way they just sulk, don't play worth a ****, and at long last quit and transfer (move away from their problems). Not good guys.

It was brought up before how not many players were transferring. Looks like that was not such a good thing. Guess we'll see for sure as the season goes on.

Sounds like you are butthurt that kids have the opportunity to pursue other opportunities that they feel is better for them.

Losing those guys don't affect me one bit as they have had their chances. Just referring to how easy it is for one to leave and transfer these days- that is all.

One pre season article ( can't remember which one) had a list of the most talented teams in the country based on recruiting rankings. Tennessee was 14 th......In the country. We DO have some Jimmys and Joes, but not sure we have any Moes ( that can coach them up ). There sure have been times this season where we look completely dis functional, alignment problems, stupid penalties, not prepared to play. I guess the verdict is still out as to where the REAL issue lies.

Yeah some of the stupid penalties are on players that are all in, like T Smith, Calbert etc... so it may go deeper

How did we decide this was housecleaning and not good players fleeing a sinking ship? Just curious, I wish he had some recent examples for comparison.

I find it very hard to believe that a whole group of proven winners and coaches can’t coach a lick.
It's not a coaching problem, it's a CEO problem. Pruitt isn't a CEO type, he's not a program manager. He likes to be in control and I get it but if you're going to be the coach of a major college program you have to manage the program and trust your coaches. Look at Dabo, he's a terrible football coach but he's a great program manager and he surrounds himself with people who are smarter than him.

This is the kind of situation where I wish these media types would keep their mouth shut. Until the kids enter the transfer portal, or say something publicly about doing it, then someone in media has no business putting it out there.

The same media types,, including this particular person, claim to have inside sources at the school who say that Pruitt is making everyone miserable. They claim that he has created a culture where the assistant coaches and players are fed up and want to bail.

So, we can't just assume this is coach Pruitt knowing what he's doing and culling the ones who aren't right for the program. it could be that he is wrecking the program from the inside out and people are leaving because they're miserable. We just don't know so we can't celebrate.

You are right. I do have ZERO KNOWLEDGE ON WHY THEY ARE LEAVING. SO DO YOU!!! The point is none of them are making headlines on Saturdays!!! ARE THEY???? Let the freshman and sophomores take their lumps and UT will be much better next year!!!
You should use more capitalization, exclamation points, and question marks. The more you use, the more seriously people will take your opinion.

It does make sense. Again I'll compare players leaving to a divorce.

it's a bad look. Lots of questions, lots of explaining, some mud slinging, both parties have contracts that ain't easy or painless to get out of, which indicates something somewhere, is going bad in the worst way to justify such a move. It's 's kind of embarrassing, to all parties involved, even if you aren't at fault personally.

It's Just a bad look, and sure it's happening more and more these days, but still...

...Its just a bad look, trouble in paradise, what went wrong?

I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise.
