Looks like we agree on that one too. I posted this when it happened but my neighbor is a sergeant in Dallas PD. I asked the relevant opinion within his department on the event. It was a succinct reply. “It was perfectly ok right up to the point to where it wasn’t.”Meh. I took a lot of heat by concluding that cop killed George Floyd, too.
It happens.
Anybody with some years of life under their belt knows for a fact there are good and bad in every vocation. And law enforcement-type jobs can attracts some people who do not have the temperament to do that very challenging work.Looks like we agree on that one too. Oh the idiot that killed him deserves a bunch of rebuke for sure. But I’ll really take to task the three or four complicit officers around him that didn’t call “enough!”Anybody with some years of life under their belt knows for a fact there are good and bad in every vocation. Is there any law or statue that states they can only get x ft away?I do not believe the courts have ruled that people can walk right up on agents who are trying to perform their duties. That's my point. There is one thing to stand yards away screaming and cursing them. It's another to walk up within a couple of feet of them. That's an amazing way to get LEOs stabbed in the back or bashed in the back of the skull.
See my edit. I am not saying that they have authority of general crowd control. That's why the NG guard was brought in for that. I am saying that they have the authority to clear their immediate area of operations, similar to a police officer telling a passenger to get back in the car while they are dealing with the driver, or officers telling you to back of if you walk up on them while they are trying to arrest someone. And that's what the agents seemed to have been doing in this case. They were not dispersing the crowd. They were removing specific individuals from the imediate vicinity of their operations.
Your AI quotes, as full and complete as they were (no sarcasm) did not state that they cannot clear the area of their operations.
In the post you just quoted I was still talking about Floyd. We we had our huepel-thetical exchange along with the wunderpig which I thought we all agreed upon the likely existence of exemptions. Gettin konfuzing up in heerI thought the discussion i jumped in on was about what if scenarios unrelated to the shooting.
Oh don’t even give anyone that opening. DHS was so traumatized they didn’t even detain and identify him and didn’t fill out any paperwork^^^^^^
Was the agent who shot Petti there?
This goes to motive.
It's my belief and understanding that they have every right to secure their area of operation as any other LEO does theirs. It would fall under the necessity that they are granted certain authorities, as well as the powers needed to exercise those authorities. Is there any law or statue that states they can only get x ft away?
They can remove people if they’re physically impeding. Which is my whole point, if they can’t prove they were impeding then the whole situation leading up to tackling Pretti would have been unlawful. Thus the defense of the agents saying Pretti was interfering with operations and getting physical would not hold up in the slightest
@MAD they just showed the video on ABC Nightly News I am guessing you were referring too. It absolutely looks like Pretti and he in fact kicked the vehicle it looks like and broke the rear taillight assembly. At the end of the encounter both parties just got up and walked away nobody was detained. And his pistol appears clearly in the small of his back. If both parties just went their ways as was stated then DHS wouldn’t have any file of the encounter most likely so both statements can be true.
I don’t know but that looks like an arrestable offense to me since he caused property damage. Wonder why they didn’t arrest. Not that it has anything to do with the recent encounter.
