Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

While we are waiting...I am thinking about changing my name here. Nico is old news. What should I change it to?

I want it to be named after a famous Vol. My original idea was "Bert Bertelkamp's Burner Account" but the character limit is 25 so that didn't work.

You could just shorten it to “Bertelkamp’s Burner Account” I think that’s exactly 25 characters if I can do quick math at work

As I suspected, his attorneys are reviewing things. There’s a proposal to address his concerns, and they’re still talking. On the SF side, not sure whether their offer is papered in an LOA either. Everyone said this would be done yesterday one way or another. TV doesn’t want the team in limbo and has said that. He isn’t holding things up. I can’t see it going much longer without some news.

If he is still talking to us and trying to come to terms, it sounds like there's still hope for us?

Has to be done today or tomorrow with the WS starting on Friday. Every espn alert until this is over makes my heart sink.

To clarify, you're saying there is a proposal from the UT side to address his concerns, and his attorneys are reviewing that proposal?

Is it fair to say if his attorneys are reviewing things from the UT side that he is inclined towards staying? It doesn't seem logical to me to spend that time and effort addressing concerns with UT if you're just going to leave to go to SF anyways. Is this a deal where if we meet his demands/requirements, we're keeping the marriage alive?

I'm just lurking here, and I know you're the not the one looking to change your name. All that said, as a lifelong Tolkien fan, please don't ever change your username. I'm actually envious

Interesting. So this reads like his attorneys are reviewing both offers, the SF and then whatever we offered. I imagine we hear by this afternoon.

I’m just curious, does your source provide any hint as to where they see this going?

Is there a chance he doesn’t actually have an offer from SF? Can’t imagine they offered him going back to at least Saturday and have allowed him to just sit on it.

I'm surprised SF hasn't checked out on him yet and just moved on to another candidate. They've already had at least one other turndown though (Nick Hundley).
Sf circles are still throwing around the name Albert Pujols, who ended talked with the Angels before they then went with their other guy yesterday. He's now meeting with the Padres. You'd have to assume their patience is wearing thin with Tony.

Surely if he’s waited this long to have his attorney’s review our proposal, it means his preference would be to stay. I guess I am just trying to latch onto any hope we can get.
I think that's what any reasonable person would assume, but TV is kind of a wild card which makes it hard to read.

In the "normal" world, yes, if you are a hiring manager and offered someone a job who already had a good job somewhere else, and there's all this back and forth after you thought you were close to an agreement, you'd start to think they were getting cold feet or they are just using you as leverage to get more out of their current employer.

It doesn't matter about the level of love he will get. Getting a chance to manage a historic team and try to get a world series is high up there and chance any competitor would love to have.

Good on him and I'm happy for him if that is what he chooses. Likewise I will be stoked if he stays.

There is no downside to either decision for him. And chances are if he flames out in 3 years, Tennessee would likely welcome him back with open arms
What exactly is 'historic' about the SFO Giants?

Seriously?

They are probably one of the 5 or 6 best brands in MLB. Have won the WS 8 times and have more players + managers in the HOF than any other MLB franchise. They play in maybe the best ballpark in the league. In more recent years they have been pretty mediocre but had a great run in the early 2010s with 3 championships.

His attorneys are "reviewing things" from UT or from SF?
