Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

He’s got plenty of wise counsel available to him. Folks i hope he talks to before making his final decision:

Bruce Bochy
Dusty Baker
AJ Hinch
Craig Counsel
Phil Garner
Rick Barnes

…kind of in that order.
I’d also say he has discussed with Todd, Quentin , Peyton, and JP Arencibia.

Yea, something needs to happen today. It’s getting to the point where, imo, its becoming unfair to the players and also Elander, Frank, Q, etc.
Lmao. Only Danny White is thinking like this.

Every sane booster / fan has no issue with Elander taking over for Tony if he chooses to leave, but nothing "HAS TO" happen today.

I do think the longer this draws out, the better the chances he is staying.

As a lifelong giants fan growing up in the Bay Area and proud vol alum I’m truly conflicted … I feel the only way my giants have an honest chance is the owners opening their checkbooks like the dodgers… but at the same time I hate rooting against Tony possibly landing a dream job .. though it would hurt losing him from UT …how many of us would give anything to get to have a job on the sidelines of a professional sports org .. I know I would .. it’s a crap situation either way for me 🤷🏻‍♂️
lol ok now it makes sense why you said the dodgers spending needs to be controlled.

you all have the same capability as we do. in the land of tech and innovation, maybe you all should be more... innovative with your roster and contracts

I listened to the podcast about potentially hiring Tony from yesterday and it was hilarious.

Here are some of the highlights

- He mentioned multiple times that he had never seen anything like this. Both the delay and the craziness of Tennessee fans.

- The fake accounts trying to keep Tony here made him, a member of the media, Wonder if Tony is worth it

-He said that If nothing was solidified yesterday, he was skeptical it would get done.

-funny side note. He said that he has never been to Tennessee but as always had a soft spot for Tennessee. Now his worlds are colliding in a weird way

How to say you're not normally in the baseball forum without saying you're not normally in the baseball forum .... who the frig is Carla?

Stop being selfish. Tony staying is best for all of us.

I believe we get our answer today. People have been all over the place on this and it’s impossible to get a feel on what’s going to happen.

I’ve got my gut feeling on what will happen but we will see how it plays out.

If Tony wants to be a coach he will remain at TN. If Tony wants to be a manager he will take the Giants job. JMO.
Yep. And consider everything, including the many and loud SF fans who don’t like the idea and will be ready to pounce at first sign of any issues. He will be going from the longest rope ever to a short one.
To me this likely would turn into a Saban or Spurrier attempt at pro where their skill sets and style while developing young players isn’t as effective with grown, developed, millionaires with set in habits formed the last decade under other coaches. People always talk about coaches in college getting “their guys”. Vitello has done thi, like the other coaches mentioned. He won’t get “his guys” in mlb and his player interactions greatly decreased.

I guess I have to say I’m impressed that no information has leaked out in 5 days on the behind the scenes discussions going on with Tony. No one seems to know how he’s leaning or what is holding things up. You would think the longer it drags on the more likely information is to leak out, but it hasn’t.

Probably already said but seems very odd to me that this leaked 5 days ago and still isn't confirmed. That usually seems like it's not going to happen. There are exceptions but seems like usually when something leaks it's confirmed within 48 hours.

While we are waiting...I am thinking about changing my name here. Nico is old news. What should I change it to?

I want it to be named after a famous Vol. My original idea was "Bert Bertelkamp's Burner Account" but the character limit is 25 so that didn't work.

the longer it drags out, the likelier it seems to me that he doesn't go to SF. That's just been my experience with coaching searches and recruiting. If you think someone is locked up but the announcement gets delayed, it generally falls through. I mean, at some point the Giants will have to move on.

It seems crazy to me, but it could actually be that Tony actually is still torn on what to do, and that's why there aren't any leaks. I thought him telling the team yesterday he didn't know was just typical speak for "the contract details are still being ironed out", but the fact that no one credible still has any solid info goes against that thought.

All that said, I'm not very smart and I have no clue what he'll do.

Yeah, a really short leash. I don't think he'll last long on the pros. Just given that he's never been as a player or coach, and he didn't 'climb the ladder', it'll be hard for him to command the clubhouse. Not to discount him a as a coach or manager, just a completely different world than the college ranks.

How about an older but a goody from John Ward “Eddie Volker played but did not score”
