Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

If Tony REALLY wanted to be a Vol, he wouldn’t leave over 700k, imo.

In the era of rev share, no one is going to be happy. We made Tony the highest paid coach in America a year ago.

We all know how competitive CTV is, maybe he just wants to go compete with the best? I can’t blame him if he wants to go do that
More about principle of money allocated to his program being redirected. It’s about being told bs consulted. DW tried to big boy TV. That’s the bad move.

When I heard the news on Saturday it literally ruined me. I was in a 5k run and just quit. Went home. And just stared at the walls.

My wife came home from drinks with a friend later that night and thought a family member of mine had died. Her first words were “Oh my gosh, who died!?!”

I said, “My happiness.”

Lol.

Tony has the most talented roster he has ever had at Tennessee and likely be preseason # 1. If he leaves, I doubt it will be because support from the Athletic Department.
Exactly. He’s recruiting at a very high level.

There is nuance to this. Regardless of what people feel about women’s basketball, that program is a blue blood that needs to get back to high level success. Also, TV is an elite recruiter that doesn’t have to have the highest budget in the game to recruit great players. Of course, we want him to have all the money he can, but money is still finite. If there is one coach that recruit with a little less, it’s TV. He has proven it.

The athletic department is spending tens of millions on facilities as well. The baseball program is being supported.

We had a watch party for the game at my wife’s work. I couldn’t get out of the car. She had to go in without me. When I came in everyone was telling me how sorry they feel for me. It hurt me bad.

Some of you need to touch grass. Seriously, a para-social relationship with a college baseball coach isn’t healthy.
You do you. I love the program and without him I’m afraid it goes back to well, nothing. By the way, do you even lift bro. Touch grass. Are you like 12

I’d cite the source but I can’t remember where I read it or if I heard it but it was from a reputable media outlet. This story has consumed me since it broke on Sat afternoon.
I don’t think that means anything though. It may be worse news, IMO. He’s going to tell the team before it becomes public. May be sticking around to tell them?

Get this worked out. They have all kinds of money they can pull from. Boosters can help fund this. He should have the same amount of money as any of the other top programs.
I don’t believe they are at odds over 700k. It’s much more than that or something else if there really is something.

Elander is a great coach, but Tony is charismatic and has thrust Tennessee Baseball into the national spotlight. We’ll still win games with Elander but it won’t be at the clip we were with Tony.

It’s also unlikely you see Elander on MLB draft night coverage or many of the places Tony was getting exposure to keep our program at the top of the sport. Tony is just a lightning rod that made our program so attractive to recruits. I know Elander is a heck of a recruiter, but if Tony doesn’t feel like the AD is giving him enough resources to compete with the top of the SEC, are we supposed to believe Danny’s going to give it to Elander?

Hearing this from a credible source. It’s over 700k that DW gave to the women’s basketball and took from baseball. They butted heads. DW didn’t budge. It wasn’t for TV salary but his program. TIFWIW. Also was said on the radio no post practice meeting w the team and he’s Ona plane to see the ALCS
So here's the thing. I can believe that DW and CTV both want full control of the baseball program and would hold each other hostage over the $700k. However, what I can't believe based upon evidence to date is that Randy Boyd wouldn't step in and resolve it with a handful of calls to people who would make the $700k appear.

As an aside, in the event that both our highly successful leaders are being dumb@$$es and are pushing back against that resolution over full theoretical control, then they both deserve to be locked in a room with an unmedicated Albert Haynesworth. They can resume their regular jobs when they emerge from their comas and realize no human has full control of anything.

The lone sport in the Big-4 at TN where we have known for several years that the Vols will compete for and win a championship!!! Yeah Rick is getting closer in basketball.

All good points. DW already has his money from season tickets for baseball. That’s all he really cares about.

I wish CTV wasn’t privy to what Arkansas is allocating for women’s basketball for revenue sharing. Of course TN will allocate more dollars to LV basketball, and Arkansas will simply apply the absolute minimum. It’s just another unnecessary irritant to CTV
Arkansas doesn’t give a 💩 about their women’s basketball program. They care about their men’s basketball team being successful and baseball. That’s it. Tennessee is different.
