Hiring a coach with HC experience doesn't guarantee anything. Hiring the right coach at the right time that can put together a great staff and develop players is what's most important.
No idea if its Elliott or not but...
1) Highly, highly respected as a coach and individual
2) Clemson's running backs n now offense n general has been pretty darn good with him coaching both.
3) He turned down 2 OC offers n the NFL after Clemson lost to OSU this year b the semi's, which he missed btw due to covid protocol.
4) He virtually guarantees we sign Ty Simpson n the 2021 class.
5) Just pointing out facts b4 the haters riot lol.
That’s my feelings on it. I’d have a completely different view of this if the program was rolling along pretty good. I just think this is too big of a dumpster fire for a first time HC to put out. I’d be willing to bet he will be successful at whatever school he goes to after Tennessee.I think Tony Elliott probably has a bright future. I dont think he'd be the right hire for the current dumpster fire situation we have. Honestly, I think we'd be sitting in the same boat in 3 to 4 years and Tony would be damaging his stock.
Probably a good coach, but not the right set of skills(yet) for what this program is about to embark on.
Possibly, but if fans think a highly successful, sitting HC, is going to come here, not knowing what's to come sanction wise, they r both delusional and plain ignorant.I think Tony Elliott probably has a bright future. As I’d commented in another thread, if the program wasn’t in such terrible shape I’d have a completely different view of things. I just feel like UT is too big of a dumpster fire for a first time HC to put out. I’d be willing to bet that he will be successful at whatever school he goes to after Tennessee.Unqualified coaches per Vol Nation.

Every coordinator is bad because Pruitt sucked.

It just makes zero sense to me. Within 48 hours of being named AD you hire a guy with zero HC experience?
How do you know this? I'm not necessarily doubting you, but I don't think Donde Plowman has much of a background in football for that to have been a determining factor in his hiring. One of the reasons White was hired was he told Plowman and Boyd he had offensive minded candidates ready to roll out quickly. They are trying to get this done as quickly as possible for signing day and portal reasons.
When has this forum ever made a bad hire? I think we have a better idea of what a good head coach looks like, than our 5 or 6 previous athletic directors. If this is true, judged on the negative reaction of vol fans I can say this is probably a great hire. VN has been truly terrible at evaluating coaches.
Not from a Power 5 school... but from a place like Coastal Carolina, with a coach who was born and raised in east Tennessee? Tennessee could find someone with head coaching experience.Possibly, but if fans think a highly successful, sitting HC, is going to come here, not knowing what's to come sanction wise, they r both delusional and plain ignorant.
