Tony Elliott Appears To Be a Target

So you'd take 60+ year old Steele, worst head coach in decades at Baylor, and a life long defensive guy, over the top young OC in college football?
9-37 is Steeles head coaching record at that.
I think Elliot would out recruit Steele as well.
Steele has no business being Tennessee’s coach.

Totally different scenarios, Smart took over a roster full of 4 and 5 star players and had a full cupboard, Swinney did as well and he almost got fired in his 3rd season, not one of these coaches took over a program with a depleted roster and NCAA sanctions hanging overhead and not to mention having to handle firing popular VFL assnt coaches when they take the reigns, which is what the new coach will have to decide to do.

Remember when coordinator Stoops landed at terrible Oklahoma and restored it to glory? I do.

Remember when coordinator Fisher landed at Florida State after it has 3 6 loss seasons in 4 years, got hit with major probation, lost scholarships and then took them to the National title? I do.

Remember when coordinator Mullen landed at lowly Miss State and by some miracle took them to #1 in the country? I do.

Pruitt isn't Elliott. Elliott isn't Pruitt.

Any less experience than Riley, Day, Dabo, or Smart? Or is Tennessee that difficult to win at and that inferior to those programs that what works there will not work here?

Dabo is the only person you listed that built a program. Clemson caught lightening in a bottle there.

Riley and Day just kept a quickly moving train rolling (Oklahoma May be slowing down).

I call BS. I don’t buy it. NOBODY knows anything going on right now. Danny White came in and dried up the leaks. Although, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him fishing to see who is trustworthy in the department or not. Sending out false info to different people to see what leaks. He just got here, he has to feel out those around him.

He'll probably end up being worse than Pruitt.

Not my first choice......but I’m not making the choice.......and no one should want me to either.

However he has “big” upside, he knows offense, I think he could do well for recruiting in Tennessee and it “could” be a huge hire (time would tell).

The only worry (for me anyway) is it the talent......it is him (and other coaches) or a combination?

I think he could be a good one. However we don’t know if the story is true or not......nor do we know if he would take it.

If we all believe the AD hire was a home run then trust his decision making. None of us know who will or will not succeed here until it happens.

I agree. 👍

It would be super disappointing if true. Nobody has any idea what this guy is capable of. Any offensive coordinator is going to look good at Clemson because they have a ton of talent and play nobody. I mean absolutely nobody! But whatever. Eventually one of these guys will prove to be a good coach. Pruitt had enough talent here. Just could t grasp the significance of qb play amd in the end that costs him his job

There's absolutely nothing about him that even remotely suggest that. Pete Carroll tried to hire him last year. I never heard of Pruitt getting any NFL looks, period.
why didn't he do us a solid and take one of those NFL jobs?

But all we hear is how good of job this is!
I agree- we aren’t as good of job as those. More difficult here and the risk of failure higher. But if they had to go that route, we likely will as well. You think those other programs were like, “we have a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits, let’s pass on getting a proven HC”.

Plus, you’re overstating what Dabo inherited imo

Clemson has recruited at a similar level to Tennessee the last 10 years. Dabo and staff just happen to actually develop talent. Their classes were generally between 8th and 16th before the last two seasons. They team that destroyed Alabama was made up of those type classes.

They would be undefeated every year if they played nobody
