Tony Elliott Appears To Be a Target

I seriously doubt he would be the AD's fist choice. If the rumors of 7M budget is true it just means nobody was willing to take the job. I think too many people are underestimating the NCAA penalties and how it hampers a program. Leaves you with a G5 guy or an up and comer assistant. Take your pick.
G5 or Steele!

This is not a “home run “ hire as White indicated so no way this is true. Not worried
People make phrases to try and excite. I remember when Dave Clawson had all Vol fans stoked because he explained how he was going to "Get the ball to the play makers in space." Or the dude who took the Detroit Lions job bite or eat a kneecap. Lol Or heck Butch Jones said he was hiring the best staff in America. So based off just a few things people say when they are hired. Its empty promises till they deliver.

Or never deliver in our case.

Tony Elliot...is that you???

Nope. Just a realistic fan. We would have been damn happy with this hire if it comes to pass if not for Pruitt. A ton of people wanted Venables for the last two searches. The fan base is projecting Pruitt's incompetence onto Elliott. There's nothing but praise for Elliott unlike Pruitt. He has gotten multiple legitimate NFL coordinator opportunities and turned them down to wait for a HC job.

Honestly, until I hear a real announcement, I'm not believing any of this stuff. No one had a clue that White was going to be the AD and I really doubt anyone other than White, Plowman, and Boyd know who the top candidates are. White said he didn't want the players to find out who their new coach was on social media which means he isn't likely to tell some goofy reporter. I think the first solid news of the choice may well come from the players.

It’s concerning that a blue checkmark (def consider the source) is reporting it though.

Another inexperienced hire if true...this is not a learn as you go job, isn't that clearly what the administration stated in the press conference this week. Danny White already losing credibility if this is true.....I cannot get behind an up and comer again.....I do not care how good of an Offensive coordinator Elliott is, being the CEO of the team is so much more than drawing up and calling plays......
Any less experience than Riley, Day, Dabo, or Smart? Or is Tennessee that difficult to win at and that inferior to those programs that what works there will not work here?

This is not a learn as you go type of job, dont care how many nice things Dabo says about the guy! You dont start at the University of Tennessee for your first HC job, you start at UT Chattanooga or Memphis.....

Agreed. It’s also easy to put up large offensive numbers and look like an offensive genius when Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the 5* players are all leading the charge.

Totally different scenarios, Smart took over a roster full of 4 and 5 star players and had a full cupboard, Swinney did as well and he almost got fired in his 3rd season, not one of these coaches took over a program with a depleted roster and NCAA sanctions hanging overhead and not to mention having to handle firing popular VFL assnt coaches when they take the reigns, which is what the new coach will have to decide to do.

I'm thinking that if a guy making $1.8 million dollars a year can"t make the right hire this time then it will probably never happen. He will also be out of a job. Good luck Danny. I will trust and support your decision.

I feel like this is UTs last shot at ever coming back. They have been down too long. I’ll be pretty shocked and disappointed if the AD is willing to risk hiring an OC. I’m sure that Elliot (sp) is an excellent OC. I understand that there is risk with any hire but UT just fired a coach that was considered one of if not the best DCs in college football. If this turns out being true as a fan I will feel very let down by the AD. Probably more so than any of the previous hires because I just really thought they were gonna get it right this time. Maybe Tennessee really does need to consider changing its identity and leave being a football school behind. Basketball is doing well and gaining momentum perhaps they should try to push that and make it the emphasis. I guess sometimes it’s a matter of realizing what you are and what you aren’t anymore.

Our roster is not depleted.
And Elliot is the perfect coach to help our 5 star QB.

Elliot has been good when he has a bunch of 4 and 5*'s playing for him...Here at UT he will most likely flop in a big way and of course keep us as the laughing stock of college football....I swear to god you can't make this stuff up.

Why is BJ Hunicutt pretending to break college football news? I’ll wait on something more concrete
