Not sure behind the scenes, but they likely had talked to all the people and knew their direction when they fired Herman versus hiring a consulting firm....I don't think they had much of a plan. It looks like they did because it seemingly happened so fast, but the reality is that Texas has been looking to fire Herman for at least a month. And when they were looking at Meyer, it made sense. That they hired Sark tells me that they knew that Herman saw the writing on the wall and couldn't risk letting him go full heel in the offseason, and made the move to get a guy who's not going to be a total departure from what Herman was. Texas, in it's current state is not a job you say no to, save for maybe like 8 coaches.
We have heard that crap before. I remember they were posting that we had the winningest coach in America for the first few years. That did not last long. Fulmer’s record is slanted because he took over a winning program and did not have to build a program. He also ran it into the ditch that we do not seem to be able to get out of and who is the idiot that gave him the keys to the car again?152-52 , just sayin
Maybe they did do all the back channel stuff, but I don't think Sark would have been their first choice if they had fired Herman in November and Meyer didn't exist. Not sure behind the scenes, but they likely had talked to all the people and knew their direction when they fired Herman versus hiring a consulting firm....
A&M has been the better job in that state since they made the jump to the SEC. Texas will never be top dog again and that’s why they tried their hardest to keep A&M away from us.
It was run into the ditch because we lost Dickey as AD, and there was no one there to replace his leadership. We have heard that crap before. If they played the same plodding, unimpressive style? I do.Why? Because Jimbo finally had a big year this year? Let's not forget the perception of aTm before this season. aTm has a lot of potential, resources, fan support etc but it's never been fulfilled. Granted Texas is a huge underachiever based off what they should/could be but they have won national titles and conference championships there. aTm is a good job but it's not a better job than Texas.
Do you think Texas would have been left out of the playoff if they had the same team as aTm and had one loss and were Big 12 champs? I don't.
Totally agreee, but we didn’t see Meyer and others publicly turning down Texas. I am guessing they checked behind the scenes to figure out who was the person they thought was best fit. In other words they actually had a plan....Maybe they did do all the back channel stuff, but I don't think Sark would have been their first choice if they had fired Herman in November and Meyer didn't exist.
That's what I'm here for!
He could be the one we've all been waiting for. You can't throw his baggage at him (Freeze, Chadwell) or say he hasn't won at a big enough school (Fickell, Napier).
(Not you, by the way, VolNation in general).
Fulmer recruited most of the players Johnny Majors won with. He was also the OC , that averaged over 40 points a game. Not to mention the year we won NC, all of Majors players were gone.. just sayinWe have heard that crap before. Overstatement? How is 152-52 ditching 116-62-6?We have heard that crap before. I remember they were posting that we had the winningest coach in America for the first few years. Ridiculous to fire Herman. Would've been 10-3 in a normal season and all 3 of his losses were by 3 points or less, including a 4-OT loss to Oklahoma.
I'd happily take Herman if Texas doesn't want him. The last former Texas coach we hired has worked out pretty well.
What you said. The only thing that saved Gump this season is Covid. Neyland wouldn't have been half compacity for the s**t show that was Tennessee Football this season.Bingo! Money talks. Why was Fulmer let go? 55% capacity in Neyland. The 'Rona excuse not gonna work this coming season. They have to be shown.
I'd take Herman in a New York minute.
Alabama, OU, and Texas A&M are feasting on Texas talent now.
Texas isn't really our footprint. Herman still was beginning to turn that thing around. Finished 8-3 this season and found Texas QB of the future in the bowl game. Speaking of Bowl Games he's 5-1 in them.
