Not sure behind the scenes, but they likely had talked to all the people and knew their direction when they fired Herman versus hiring a consulting firm....

We have heard that crap before. I remember they were posting that we had the winningest coach in America for the first few years. That did not last long. Fulmer’s record is slanted because he took over a winning program and did not have to build a program. He also ran it into the ditch that we do not seem to be able to get out of and who is the idiot that gave him the keys to the car again?

Just sayin.....

Maybe they did do all the back channel stuff, but I don't think Sark would have been their first choice if they had fired Herman in November and Meyer didn't exist.

Why? Because Jimbo finally had a big year this year? Let's not forget the perception of aTm before this season. aTm has a lot of potential, resources, fan support etc but it's never been fulfilled. Granted Texas is a huge underachiever based off what they should/could be but they have won national titles and conference championships there. aTm is a good job but it's not a better job than Texas.

Do you think Texas would have been left out of the playoff if they had the same team as aTm and had one loss and were Big 12 champs? I don't.

It was run into the ditch because we lost Dickey as AD, and there was no one there to replace his leadership.

Totally agreee, but we didn’t see Meyer and others publicly turning down Texas. I am guessing they checked behind the scenes to figure out who was the person they thought was best fit. In other words they actually had a plan....

Four years ago he was the hottest coach out there. Would be a better hire than Pruitt. The Barnes hire from Texas scrap heap has worked (tonight still standing). I’ve lost all faith in Pruitt and the whole UT administration taking action and not screwing it up.

Fulmer recruited most of the players Johnny Majors won with. He was also the OC , that averaged over 40 points a game. Not to mention the year we won NC, all of Majors players were gone.. just sayin

Alabama, OU, and Texas A&M are feasting on Texas talent now.

Texas isn't really our footprint. Herman still was beginning to turn that thing around. Finished 8-3 this season and found Texas QB of the future in the bowl game. Speaking of Bowl Games he's 5-1 in them.

What you said. The only thing that saved Gump this season is Covid. Neyland wouldn't have been half compacity for the s**t show that was Tennessee Football this season.

The crazy thing is that Herman's trajectory at Texas looks almost exactly like Rick Barnes'. Barnes had Texas in the Sweet 16 in Year 4 before hitting the Final Four in Year 5.

That's basically where Texas's football program is at right now. A top 15'ish football team that has the talent to be maybe a top 8 / top 5 type of team in 2021 if they continue improving. Absolutely nuts that Texas canned him; it's the best season they've had since 2009.

I'd be completely OK with getting rid of Pruitt if we're trading him in for Herman. I think Herman could win big here.
