To Protect and to Serve II

So two bags of heroin were found in the glovebox of the cops vehicle. They were not marked as evidence in any way. Hmm, I wonder where those bags of heroin would’ve ended up had Mr. Tuttle not tried to defend his house and family.....

How many people has he framed for illegal drugs? I doubt this case was his first.

The more I think about it, the more I think this was a hit designed to take that couple out for whatever reason. They must have had info on someone or really made someone mad. No way were these people singled out like that just because. Also, sounds like another one of the officers was in on it has he has been suspended as well. Maybe this couple had an interaction with these cops before and complained and it was payback.

Hopefully this will have real investigation and the ones responsible will get buried under the jail.

Yeah. This was personal. Dont think they were all in on it though, and the guy was well prepared. Sounds like the innocent cops sre dead like the victims

You've got the foxes guarding the hen house. They will do an internal investigation and someone will probably get some paid time off.
I don't know on this one. Too much info coming out for public consumption. I think some will serve significant time on this one.

I don't think it will happen unless a state agency or the feds get involved. The chief gives the impression that he's going to protect his officers as much as possible since he's still somewhat blaming the couple even with the new revelations.

No, this one is going to result in prison...likely life (and rightfully so) for the one officer who falsified the warrant app. In most states, the commission of any felony that results in death is automatically a Felony Murder charge. There's no sweeping this under the rug. The State will be involved as well, and likely the Feds on the civil rights angle. If the HPD Chief has any sense, he will hand this off to the State / Feds and let them run with it. We'll see.

I understand the FOIA response. Active investigation, and with the state and/or feds likely stepping in, best for now to let them decide when to release all of that info. Eventually, it will get out, but to release it now is to potentially contaminate the jury pool, which plays right into the hands of a future defense argument / motion. You have to see both sides of the argument here, and take the long view.

My blood runs blue, but I am in complete agreement with all here who think an example should be made of those who betray their oath. There is no excuse for this. The badge of every honest LEO in this nation now has tarnish from this incident on it, and it takes a long time to get it off. It's one thing to defend an officer who makes an honest mistake. This was not a mistake, or honest, by any measure.

Obviously, something put this couple on HPD's "radar". Rumors, street talk, previous interactions, whatever. While understanding that (a) I wasn't there, (b) have no first-hand knowledge, and (c) have learned to never trust the MSM regardless of which side they're on, this is clearly an inexplainable and inexcusable abuse of power. And people died because of it. There must be justice here, and let the sword fall where it may.

When something like this happens, I always ask myself "what would I think if this was a member of my family?" In this case, based solely on the prima facie standard, it looks like a home invasion by HPD officers. So as I said, let justice be done, and let those who are responsible for this be held accountable for their actions.

I doubt if you'll find any of the LEO's on VN circling the wagons on this one.

I am with you GW, and i usually support yall and dont agree with the needless criticism of all LEOS when 1 messes up...its just stupid. This one stinks to high heaven though.

I at first thought that one of the officers had a personal beef with the guy, but it looks like 2 of the cops were in on it...speaking as a guy who only has 2 real friends, but they are more than brothers to me...it still may have just been 1 cop that had a beef, and the other cop was loyal to him to the end...and helped him to obtain a false warrant to onvade these peoples homes and get revenge. I dont think the other 3 cops were in on it...and its funny that the 2 who were guilty lived thru it...seems like they sent other officers who didnt know the real deal to breach the front door and take out the dog...and they paid for it with their lives.

Looking at how small the house is...and not a big country yard...it looks like it was in a pretty bad neighborhood...prone to lots of drugs and violence like where i grew up. It is not at all surprising then that the guy had a shotgun at the ready, and apparently was very ready and able to use it. I havent seen any reports that say the cops found any drugs or illegal weapons in the home...which leads me to believe that this was all a setup. There are. Million reasons for 1 man to want to get another man, and we will probably never know why this happened. The only story we will get is from the accused cops, because everyone else is dead, sadly.

This was a terrible situation, and i know it pisses you off. The Houston cops have to be super pissed...they will be looked at differently and lost mucho respect in their community for something that they never did. There are no winners in this situation, only varying degrees of people who lost...most of all the ones who died.

Taxpayers will lose bigtime, too...when the families of all 4 dead can sue the crap out of the dept. And the city of houston for this debacle...this will go on for years...at taxpayer expense. Damn debacle

If I was the first guy through the door I’m wondering if the guy who got the warrant wanted me dead. Straight out of the Vic Mackey playbook.
That was such a great show. Wouldn’t surprise me if that crooked cop watched it and was inspired by it. Side note: that show was inspired by a real situation with dirty cops that were running drugs.

Another bad story for police

Five bystanders shot during police shootout in New Orleans

Five people waiting at a bus stop in New Orleans were shot during a police shootout with a robbery suspect Sunday, police said.
The suspect was fatally shot by a Louisiana State Police officer at the end of foot chase with gunfire throughout, Chief Shaun Ferguson said.
Ferguson said detectives had been investigating two armed robberies in the city's 6th district when they identified a person of interest near a bus stop at the intersection of Canal Street and Elk Place at 6:43 p.m.

The detectives called uniformed officers to help question the suspect, but when they attempted to engage, the individual pulled out a weapon and began firing, he said.
A detective and one of the officers returned fire and five bystanders -- all adults -- were struck during the exchange of gunfire, Ferguson said. Four were in stable condition. One was in critical condition and required surgery, he said.

The gunfire continued down Elk Place toward Tulane Avenue, where the robbery suspect fired at a state police officer who was responding to the "officer in danger" code, Ferguson said. The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, who died at University Hospital, Ferguson said.
The police chief said there was an RTA bus at the bus stop at the time of the gunfight, but no one on the bus was injured.
He said it was too early in the investigation to determine who was shot by whom.
