To Protect and to Serve II

It is stupid as hell that we’ve come to a point where a damn backpack on a sidewalk calls for all that nonsense. Was there any reason to believe it was a bomb, or anything other than a random backpack? Maybe there was I don’t know.

With that said the guy’s an idiot and I don’t really feel bad for him. It was mostly like a massive over reaction but it’s not like they were abusing their power or trampling anybody’s rights. He probably should’ve simply walked around it and moved on. I can only assume he wanted to get beat up and taken to jail.

They were definitely a little slow to punch though. If it had been a bomb and he was attempting to detonate it, they would’nt have stopped him.

Sadly, that can be said after most interactions with United States LEOs...

Just curious, what would have been the justification used for shooting him? He proved there was no bomb present.

They should've shook his hand and simply said thank you.

So a civilian crosses the yellow police tape and clears a suspicious backpack of its contents to prove it is not a bomb... and the cops attack him.

No good deed goes unpunished...

He’s extremely lucky he wasn’t shot by a sniper as he approached the backpack.
The excuse would have been that they were afraid he was there to detonate “the bomb”.

The justification? I don’t know. How about attempting to set off a bomb? Clearly the cops would have been wrong but that wouldn’t matter. The dumb ass, and I hope we can all agree he’s a dumb ass, on the bike would be dead.

Fug that. There was no reason to spear him. There was obviously no bomb by the time they assaulted him. They got brave because he revealed that there was no danger

It amazes me how you expect the cops to not only know the future regardless of what they see but also risk the lives of innocent people around the situation by not acting in a potential deadly situation.

This isn't minority report starting Tom Cruise. we dont get a heads up. What if this guy meant to plant a bomb or harm someone or that's where something deadly was? The area wasnt roped off for decoration. We can't excuse his blatant stupidity just because we have the benefit of hindsight.

If you're an officer and you see this clown go through the tape, you can safely assume he isn't some innocent bystander passing by. He put himself in the spotlight and they have to figure out why given the fact of a suspicious backpack. Its not hard.

This literally has nothing to do with the point i made. Charge him with whatever stupid law he violated, but there was no reason to **** him up. It was over

While they could have done without it, I’m not gonna get too mad about it in this situation. What if that actually has been a bomb? I’m sure they let their emotions get the better of them. It’s not like he got tased or shot.

Could you imagine doing a job that involved life and death while having people critique every split second decision you make.

Sorry but just because someone lacks the intelligence, critical thinking skills, compassion, and spine to rationally analyze a situation before reacting (often in the most extreme possible way) doesn’t mean that doing so wasn’t possible and/or necessary.

Split second? What video did you watch?

If it takes you 3" to realize what you thought was dangerous is obviously not dangerous, you don't have what it takes to handle these situations.

He literally dropped the bag, threw his hands up in disgust, and took 3 steps walking away from it before they tackled him.

You/they should be less worried about arm chair QB's critiquing them and more worried about the law suit tax payers are going to pony up for.

So what are we arguing about?

And if anything, we need more guys like him. He's the real hero in this scenario. Just pizzed off and fed up with all of this bogus nonsense... over a backpack.

I was talking in general but this particular instance the guy in the wrong is the idiot biker.... he put the cops and everyone else’s life in danger... you can’t tell when the cops started running and they were at a different angle than the one the cops were looking at.... the biker fits the saying..... play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Have you ever went through a cops training.... ever been shot at.... how do you know how you would react in those kind of situations?

Couldn’t the bike rider be charge for interfering with uplift investigation? I thought the yellow tape meant restricted area

This is such a stupid argument.

No I’ve never been through a cops training. But considering how many of them are afraid of their own shadow, how many go into every interaction like the person is a threat, and how most obviously feel like their safety and their ability to “go home to their kids at night” is exponentially more important than mine or yours, I feel more than comfortable feeling like their training could use some adjustment.

I’ve also never been shot at but my guess is that 19 our 20 cops haven’t been shot at either.

I understand going to tackle him before he reaches the bag, but once he's done it and proved there was no danger, the tackle and beatdown down is more like emotional vengeance rather than practical interference. Arrest him, do whatever you need to do. But that wasn't necessary. You folks wouldn't hope officers are more even keeled than that?

I suppose low emotional intelligence could seem appealing to those with the same lack of self control.
