Can't imagine living with yourself the rest of your life if you puss out like that. A good death > a ****ty existence

I can't imagine living with the decision he made. His life will never be the same and he'll go to his grave regretting his cowardice. ..... at least he should

Like you said earlier he’s gotta move. But in the long run I bet it’s

A) Move and try to hide and live with what he’s done
B) End it himself. I’m guessing this guy will choose pills. *****.
C) Somebody, maybe a parent or relative, will take care of B for him.

And dont forget we’re hearing Coral Springs officers now commenting up to a total of FOUR BCSD officers may have not entered the building. It sounds like CSPD was first to enter. Good job guys. I just wish you got there 5 minutes earlier.

Yup because every officer in the world has the same mind frame and would react to every situation the exact same way.

Well since his boss came out and said he screwed the pooch and didnt followed protocol I’d say it’s moot. And I have yet to see any out pouring of support for him from LEOs.

It is really easy to mess with scared civilians who are just trying to make it one day at a time. Some need to speed a few miles over the limit some days. Others need a joint to take the edge off. And still others need a few more days til payday to get a blinker or tail light fixed.

If they don’t, they don’t need to be officers. Some people freeze. I get that. But I’m glad he resigned. If you are the type who freezes, find a new job

Then we just might get along, because unless it's a school zone or residential area, I leave my ticket book in the vehicle for anything less than 15 over; if it's less than an ounce I let you choose between the citation and dumping it out on the side of the road (same for open container); and I have never, ever written a headlight / tail light / tag light ticket. I will use that as PC to make sure you're not wanted / suspended / and okay to drive, but I've never written it.

Not trying to win you over, but just like any other demographic, we all don't fit in the same bag.

Go Vols.

I know zep at least is gonna ask it so I’ll beat him to the punch. On the oz or OC I am going to guess once you find one of those they then need to submit and pass a field sobriety test and then they get that option?

Depends entirely on the whole picture, starting with my PC (weaving?, speed?, ran over a mailbox?). I'm a "talker" (you may have noticed), so I try to engage the driver / passenger(s) in polite conversation. If I trip over an open container or bag of traveling herb, then it comes down to what I see / hear / smell / etc. If you've got 15 empty Natty Light cans in the floorboard, yeah...you're probably going to have to take the SFST. But if it's a "get home beer" at 5:30, I let you pour it out and go see your family.

If it's weed, I ask the obvious question: "When's the last time you smoked any?" I can usually tell by eye accession, body language, and how you answer if I'm getting the truth or not. Again, if you ask me if I have any pizza in my car...well, today maybe ain't your lucky day.

Right now, down here, pills and meth are a problem, and it's tough to pin it down sometimes. We have a couple of DRE's, and I'll call for one of them if they're out.

I am completely intolerant of impaired drivers. They kill way too many people. My wife drives these same roads. If you're "UI", be it alcohol, weed, pills, or anything else, I will make the arrest every time.

But...if you're close but under, or just not quite "there", I have been known to let you call someone to come get you and your vehicle. Not for me to throw the first stone there.

Like I've said before, there a bunch of folks out there that don't care for me, but not one of them can say I did them wrong just 'cause I could.

Can I count on your vote in '20?...lol.

God I wish there were more officers on the road with your attitude. Completely agree on the UI. It’s wrong and shouldn’t be tolerated. But a case by case proportional response based on your experience and judgement? How dare you! Please talk to as many young officers as you can find.

Yeah if your name is on any lever I can pull you bet.

I am an FTO, but since I'm part-time I don't do it on a regular basis any more. I do get called from time to time to ride with a "young buck" who needs motivation or tempering, depending on the individual. They don't listen to me like they did when I wore stripes, but our Captain does, and sooner or later they figure out the reason why their take-home ride is still parked at the SO is me. That usually gets the course correction we needed.

And...I hate to admit this...but I was one of those "save the world all by myself" guys when I first hit the road. It was, go figure, the sage advice of an old Sgt. about to retire who gave me the "11th and 12th Commandments", which every cop should know: #11 - Lo, the Stupid Shall Be Punished. And #12 - There's no Situation that a Good Cop can't Make Worse. That one in particular stuck with me.

I had the benefit of solid training from those much wiser and smarter than me. All I do now is try to pay it forward.

There are, and it's the majority. You're just in the wrong place for anything positive concerning LE.

I agree I do believe the overwhelming majority of LEOs as individuals are good people doing a difficult job and I’m glad they are there. However I also submit you rarely see this level of consideration presented by GW given out on a case by case basis. When was the last time you had personal knowledge of an officer pouring out a beer and saying “go forth and be a dumbass no more”? It happened to me back in the stone ages when I was a kid. Haven’t had personal knowledge of it in over 20 years.

GW and I are LEO's. I'm an FTO as well. I've consistently had people destroy their green, leafy substance in lieu of charging them. Leniency can yeild positive results, like gaining information on a heroin dealer whose product is responsible for multiple OD's because it's laced with carfentanyl.

Interactions with law enforcement are almost always under difficult circumstances, especially when drugs, alcohol and driving are involved but having an open container versus being completely blitzed are two totally different set of circumstances. I have much less sympathy for the latter.

Ah ok got it thx I wasn’t aware you both were. So yeah, I guess you do have personal knowledge of that happening. 👍

Yeah, I'm not gonna go overboard with my judgement. Few people know what they would actually do in the situation, but bottom line is he passed on the opportunity/duty and anybody who is not a sociopath will live with a mountain of regret.

I guess it sucks to be a *****? How about a ***** times 4? Four grown men cowered down outside of that school while little kids were being slaughtered. Way to man up.

Yep. And let me piggyback on your "gaining information" point. The fine for Misdemeanor Marijuana (<1 oz) here is $770. More than once I have found it on a local, and made the following deal: We're gonna dump your weed; I write the citation with a "TBD" court date (dead docket); and now you owe me $770 worth of info. You deliver; I dismiss. There was a time when I could solve a burglary over the phone with the responding deputy once I knew the location; point/method of entry, and what was taken. I'll take a solved burglary, or the code word for a street-level dealer to get him to sell to a UC, over a $770 ticket all day long.

I still get a phone call at least once a month from a local who calls me to complain about "So-and-so is dealing out of his house, and my kids play on that street." I always forward it to the Drug Team, and they always follow up.

I'm on the fence on legalizing weed. I'm not sold that it's a "gateway drug", but it is a source of DUI's. Part of me says "legalize it and tax it", and part of me says "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." I just can't seem to make up my mind as to where I stand on it. So I enforce the law, but I try to do so using wisdom, discretion, and compassion. Three things that, IMO, need more emphasis in academy training.

Now, before you name your next cat after me, bear in mind that I also think that active shooters should be shot down where they stand, like the rabid animals they are. Just wanted to be clear about that.
