If you harass my 13 yo who is walking home from school and he allegedly says he's going to shoot you, you are not within your rights to touch my kid. Sorry. You're going to jail, unless you are a cop.

I found a video on FB where you can clearly hear what they are saying.

Apparently things escalated when the off-duty cop called one of the girls a "stupid c***". The kid claims he told the cop to respect girls. The cop says he said "I'm going to shoot you" which the kids dispute.

The kids are all trying to de-escalate the situation. When they were talking it out, he told another kid to "shut the **** up" and then started manhandling the kid.

You can't justify this, even if he did say "I'm going to shoot you". If the cop really thinks this kid is a gang banger, why would he **** with him, especially in this case where the kid knows where he lives?

The cop doesn't feel physically threatened. His ego was threatened and as the only adult in the situation, he acted like the biggest ******* there. This is exactly the type of person who should not be a cop.

Read the story...not good.

Sounds there is some back story to this but, all in all, this is going to cost the officer, IMO. You just don't fire your weapon to warn someone. It's only purpose is deadly force, on or off duty.

There is more than one party at fault here but, in the end, he'll ultimately be the one to bear the brunt of the punishment.

I bet this wasn't the first run in the guy had had with these smart ass kids..... that said..... he should have never fired that weapon. He screwed himself royally.

Reading up a little, this has been going on for a while and the kids have refused to yield to his repeated requests/demands to stop walking through his yard.

Some legitimate Gran Torino stuff.

Regardless of who became belligerent first, he should not have discharged his weapon. It's going to cost him.

At that point he was within his legal authority to detain the kid whether you like it or not. If it were Joe Schmoe then it would be an entirely different situation. We can keep playing the hypothetical game if it helps you sleep at night. What if the kid was a werewolf and the cop was a time traveler?

You got an officer on video manhandling a child, discharging his pistol, and 25 people's word against his. All I'm gonna say is good luck to the man and thank God you're not a cop.

I never said I approved of what he did, only that he was within his legal ability minus the shooting. Police don't operate by the same rules as the general public and we all know that. And I would be a horrible cop because I wouldn't put up with any crap.

My understanding was that an off duty copy has no more rights than I do in such situations. As usual, I'm open to being corrected on the matter.

LEO's have arrest powers off duty, just depends on your department's policy, the severity of the crime and our own involvement as to whether we act.

"I'm not asking for your mercy. Just give me the 20. I don't need a lecture," 31-year-old Zachary Gross said.

The judge actually sentenced him to 21 years in the slammer, Fox 19 reported. The evidence showed that both Gross and his dog attacked his ex, Marilyn Stanley, in September 2015, prosecutors argued.

Anybody following the story of the part-time uber driver who is also an attorney in Wilmington, NC? Brief summary:

The cops pulled him over (5 of them) for allegedly picking someone up from a "drug house" and started harassing him for filming them, they call him a jerk, and they completely make up a lie that there is a new law that just passed that says you can't film the police, then they get the drug dog to sniff his car and of course the dog reacts (and an officer taunts the guy when this happens) so they search and find absolutely nothing....all of it is on video.

Here is the good part....Wilmington PD chief said they are investigating the incident and invited citizens to please record the police. I can't believe people think they can get away with this kind of stupidity, but I guess they have in the past.
