Possible fictious tags, expired VL, stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, bolo for a vehicle, drug interdiction. Just to name a few reasons why a LEO needs to be able to read a license tag.

On a side not, I didn’t watch the video. Just answered your question on why an officer might make the traffic stop.

And they still wonder why people hate cops... Is being a sadist or a psychopath one of the job requirements for being a cop nowadays? They DGAF about this woman or the consequences whatsoever. These people are out here ruining lives... careers over the most trivial of offenses. To put her fate on the result of a coin flip instead of using some basic human empathy is disgusting. If you can't make a decision on if they need to be arrested, why not just error on the side of no arrest? That would be the human/decent thing to do. But no, these psychopaths in blue want arrests, want obedient serfs, and want "good shoots" called every time they have to discharge.

What's more important, enforcing the law or serving justice? Justice was not served in either of those cases.

How much justice can you expect from a system that can rob you, detain you, beat you, and even kill you at a moments notice and get away with it?

It’s like this; cops are cowards who travel in packs and go straight to guns with the slightest hint of a question of their assumed authority.

THERE ARE NO GOOD COPS. They’re only tax eating enforcers of the political class. The pointy end of the spear of a politicians agenda. That said, cops are individuals, it is the profession that is abhorrent.

I always thought it was the cops responsibility to enforce the law, and then the court system for enforcing justice.

They are the first link in the chain of the justice system. They have discretion on what laws to enforce and when they will enforce them.

The fact that you have two cops using a coin flip to determine if someone is going to be arrested and be freed is an example of that discretion.

No. Just like everybody else in the system, they can nullify the law. Trust me, even if it were possible (which it's not), you don't want the cops enforcing every law by the book. It's OK to not issue a ticket when somebody is 5 mph over in a 65 mph zone.

Another thing that bothers me from the video is the arresting officer telling the woman she was doing 80, then when she isn’t around the woman she tells another officer that the woman was probably doing 80-85 and she had to do 90 to catch her. So, she didn’t know the speed and she put other drivers at risk to go even faster than the woman she pulled over. Hypocrisy at its finest.

All cops feel they have the authority to tongue lash a civilian. Either give me a ticket or don't pull me over in the first place. Why don't they tongue lash these lawmakers the same way they do the civilians that pay their salaries? Disgusting...

Picking on people that are just trying to make a few ends meet instead of picking on real criminals.

Yeah if anybody can tell me with a straight face that she’d have given her commanding officer’s wife (or husband) the same self righteous BS lecture if she’d pulled them over then we can begin to discuss whether or not she’s justified in doing it to an regular citizen.

But we all know there’s about a 0% of that ever happening. That’s exactly why her attempt at self righteousness falls flat on its face. It was simply her taking advantage of her opportunity exert authority over somebody she knows can’t really tell her to stfu.

Um.....you do know that half of what I listed gives LEO the PC to make a traffic stop.

Though, how about the next time someone files a motor vehicle theft report, unauthorized use, or a bolo comes across for a suicidal subject, welfare check or a suspect in a crime. The officer that comes across the vehicle that matches the description goes eh, I can’t read the tag and it seems awfully intrusive to do a traffic stop so I’ll just let this go and it turns out to be that person.

I get it, you don’t like Cops and you think traffic stop are intrusive. However, contrary to your belief, traffic stops have and will continue to prevent crime, DWI’s or catch a possible suspect that has committed a crime. Just a few weeks ago an individual that killed a family of 6 ( if I recall correctly) was caught by a traffic stop. PC for stop was a broken taillight. Are you really ok with letting that guy go bc you think it’s intrusive? Yes, that happens more than you know. Oh, Timothy Mcveigh, yup you guessed it, caught on a traffic stop by an officer that wasn’t even looking for a bombing suspect.

Traffic stops might seem like they don’t serve a purpose to you and I know you will argue to your last breath defending your position but they do serve a purpose even if you don’t see the bigger picture.

I would suggest you applying to become a officer if you’d like to make a change or see if your local department has a ride along program and see what a Officer’s day is really like instead of watching YouTube videos bc even I can’t justify all the officers on there.

Finally, I’ll say this, it’s such a small portion of the LEO community that people in this thread base their opinion on. Whether it’s the media, YouTube or a bad interaction with LEO I can assure you not every officer is what you think they are. Look at Greywolf and other officers that have responded in this thread. Most are like that and not what you’ve seen.

I’ll see myself out of this thread now. Enjoy the days, weeks and years and above all GO VOLS!

Did you see the video (oh, you said you didn't)? Look at that POS vehicle and honestly tell me that you think a unique piece of work like that would be confused with some other vehicle that was allegedly involved in a crime. Criminals are constantly using camper top pickup trucks in crimes all of the time... esp. with a BS motor scooter hooked on the back. GTFOH...

I would rather 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man get roped into this wicked system over a minor infraction.
