Consensus recruit rankings have told every story of NC winners.
The rest comes off like paralysis through analysis.
Using recruiting website rankings as the sole indicator of how talented a team is ranks as stupid at best.
The only team on our schedule with an argument to be more talented than us is Bama. We're as talented, if not more talented than anyone else on our schedule. This list fails to bring in to focus that our QB was a 3 star, our star CB was a 3 star, our two best defensive players were only 4 stars, Hurd was only a 4 star, etc, etc.
Not if the teams that went on to win it also had 3 top 10 recruiting classes. Called fighting fire with fire.
Everyone that says our roster is loaded, well, according to this article TN has only the 7th most talented roster in 2016. Importantly, that ranks TN's roster 3rd in the East below UF and UGA. Thus, according to this article, TN is still dealing with a talent disadvantage in 2016 if you look just at talent and not past production.
Ranking each program in the SEC from a pure talent perspective
I agree with that.
Your statement just made it sound like you could predict the champion purely on recruiting rankings.
The best recruiting rankings can do is give you a group of 5-6 teams with the talent to win it all. It doesn't show you which 1 team will win it all.
Also, remember that last year 3 of the 4 playoff teams wouldn't fit the 2 top 10 classes in the last 4 years standard. Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Clemson were not recruiting powerhouses from 2012-2015. In fact I think only Clemson in 2015 had a top 10 class during that timespan.

Most are trying to keep it real, the Vols have shot this year at a big season but that doesn't mean if they fall short of the high expectations that all will be lost.
