TN only 7th in SEC in Talent

Both can be true.

The article is dumb because it includes player who have already left for the NFL when it includes 2013 kids. Most of those guys that were very highly rated are already gone. Just look Ole Miss. All those great 5* players Treadwell, Nkemdiche, and Tunsil are in the NFL now yet according to these rankings, they are still part of Ole Miss talent.

You need to recruit top talent to win. No one denies it. Using 4 year composite averages just isn't the best way.

It doesn't capture teams like Tennessee that really put all their eggs in two baskets. The 2014 and 15 classes.

Its sorta why 2016 is so important for us.

It might be the only time in the near future where we are more talented than just about everyone in the SEC.

Not quite. Your reading comprehension is not very good. But not as bad as your grasp on history.

Before everyone freaks out. My main points are:

1. I am just sharing the article. Not that I necessarily agree with this guys ranking. It is objectively based on the recruiting rankings though. (But I have noted this guy has an anti-TN slant sometimes. The "Elite Players do not go to TN" comment seemed over the top.).

2. I do think our fans are demanding a little too much from our coaches when the say "no excuses not to get at lest 10 wins with this team" or "TN's roster is far better than anyone but Bama". That is simply an unfair way to judge our coaches. This article shows that by at least some measure a 9 or 10 win regular season is still a success.

The NFL DRADT IS THE MEASURE OF TALENT..

Not so. Just ask the Jones bashers. There's no excuse for any losses the past 2 years. So what if we have had ZERO drafted. That doesn't matter. Just like the same hypocrites are crying about no 5* commits but then turn and call this article dumb.

I don't agree with this article BTW. I just like to laugh at the double standard bearers.

This is why classes ranked in the teens nationally don't cut it. If you want to be an elite SEC team you better finish top 5 nationally in recruiting year in year out.

Unfortunately, this is correct. The SEC is brutal. It's not the same conference we faced in the 90's. We have to recruit at least top 10 every year to expect to compete at the top of the conference.

That's not demanding too much.

In 2016, we are more talented than anyone except Alabama and less than 10 wins is a travesty.

We overloaded on the 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes signing 35 total 4 and 5 star players those years. We then played 40 true freshmen in 2014 and 2015.

We're all in for 2016.

If Butch doesn't win big this year, he NEVER will.

Phil Steele

This is an article that has UT ranked first in the SEC and Bama last. Just saying. It's based on experience and not only that but productive experience

You would know this better than me, but it seemed Fulmer was racking up the talent in those 90's. I'd be surprised if he wasn't consistently getting top 5 talent nationally. He traveled to get it, but Tennessee was loaded. Skilled positions were nuts.

I want to email the author and tell him something like this..."Hey stupid, did you account for the 3 and outs and the MIAs?"

All that list is good for is a measure of recruiting strength. Also missing from his "analysis" are Jucos and 4 year players that have graduated and moved on.

You're making it too complicated. Top ten consensus recruiting rankings will simply do for comparison.

19 out of the last 20 NC winners have had at least 2-top 10 national rankings in recruiting in their 4 years before they won.

In the past 10 years every NC, except the barn in 2010, have won with no less than 3-top 10 national rankings in recruiting in their 4 years before they won.

Translation: If you want to win a NC, better sign a lot of top 10 recruiting classes.

We play four teams ranked ahead of us in this article in a four game stretch all back to back to back. Anyone demanding that this team secure at least a 10-2 record or they'll be calling out Jones as a bad coach is not up on the facts.

Talent isn't the only decider. Experience is huge. Our guys are very experienced compared to UGA and UF at key positions.

We're also more talented.

Don't fall for this garbage.

Almost all of our highly rated prospects have panned out and a lot of our 3 stars have overachieved. Florida and Georgia have not been as good as our staff at EVALUATING talent.

We have a nice combo of 5 stars that pan out like Hurd and 3 stars who develop into superstars like Sutton.

No, its only complicated to you. The entire premise of the article is who has the most talent right now,
and the numbers are going to vary wildly from signing day stats.

The Phil Steele article I posted is exactly about this. But the funny thing is, exp at QB as a returning starter doesn't exactly mean anything when it come to recent NC.
