'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

We played 4-2-5 nickel 80%+ of the snaps during the Pruitt tenure went 3-4 against some 12 personnel teams and against certain personnel groupings in the red zone. Nickel is the new base defense u have to have 5 guys that can cover against modern offenses.
well **** whatever it was we sucked at it

This 100%. The significant differences in a 3-4 vs 4-3 defense are a thing of the past. All teams have to recruit LBs that can cover and the 360lb nose spends most of his time on the sideline (or doesn’t exist at all) in place of the nickel.

3-4 teams play the majority of their snaps in a 4 man front because of spread and/or 3 by 1 looks

I like that CJH is reaching out to a lot of the '22 in state kids, but they all seem to be offensive players. Hopefully we can make our DC hire pretty soon to keep the momentum going for these defensive guys also

Nolen should be getting calls and texts from Heupel every single day

Why not? A recruit this important? Um Nolen is just as important as a really good QB. He could be a program changing recruit.
No.
The game is centered around QB more now than ever.
And regardless the Head Coach shouldn't be calling a recruit every day. That's his staffs job. He needs competent staff surrounding him to handle that.

you’re a little off base here. The HC has an obligation to reach out daily or what not especially if it is a stud blue chip recruit like Nolen. Asst/ position coaches do too but for a potential 5* top 15 kid you likely will miss out without HC involvement because Saban, Jimbo, Day, Kirby, Bey Bey, Dabo will all be reaching out 1st hand

I never said he shouldn't talk to him.
I said NOT EVERYDAY...

And I’m telling you that you’re wrong. This is the business that I’m in and I know HC dialogue with elite guys daily.

@de1conley, I'm not doubting you know more about this process than most do. But if that's truly the case, between that and coaches now having to re-recruit players on the current roster, I only see a situation where roster management never stops becoming an endless cycle of entitlement and ultimately a drain on any program.

How are you supposed to de-recruit a kid to fall in line with the college program if they always have an out? I was hoping the opportunities at schools like UT with NIL passing soon would give us a leg up, but I'm not sure if each high level recruit has to be coaches favorite.
