'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Zero dollars. Better question is how much his dad was paid.
Auburn has that down to a science!

I wasn’t going to give any updates on this kid, but I’ll try to give you what is going on at this time. I do know from over the weekend, that the coaching staff has reached out to him, and hasn’t let up. Also, believe it or not, the Memphis trio has talked to him several times. I was told that even though his commitment to Auburn was early, that he is still interested in Tennessee. He has told the Memphis trio, Pruitt, and the coaching staff that, even though an answer hasn’t been giving yet about changing his commitment. Do I know if he will change it, I have no clue, but it is interesting that this recruitment still goes on for now. It is interesting that he told Frenchie from Whitehaven that he’ll still be looking at Tennessee. I guess what he was saying that this Auburn commitment is 50/50 right now, and that he could swap back to Tennessee.
Cool story bro. Queue the “Will Ferrell I don’t believe You” gif.

Yea, I guess it is up to what each person considers "clean." There are things that schools set up that are "legal" but beneficial. Then, you have the job offers to family or coaches, and that is very difficult to enforce.

You have to use your imagination.
Honestly, job offers (if they are qualified) is more above board than everything else. Businesses aren’t going to put a person into a spot they aren’t qualified for, it would hurt their business. It’s just a different form of networking, something I’m sure most on here has done at some point in their career. “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” applies to every career field on better jobs.

I believe it does happen in certain instances and with certain coaches. I do not believe that it happens everywhere and I don't believe it happens as much as the typical college fan who knows nothing about recruiting thinks it happens. It's a lot tougher to cheat and get away with it now-a-days. One of our Fr QBs has a tweet of him holding a stack of 100 dollar bills in what looked like his prom tux. A typical opposing fan without knowledge of how recruiting works would say Tennessee paid the kid, I would tend to think that he probably just cashed his 1st FASFA check and was showing off a bit.
You really believe players are getting paid less often than in the past? Getting caught? The NCAA doesn’t give a damn; they aren’t going to screw over one of their cash cow programs. Look at the “special” academic classes North Carolina had for athletes; what punishment did that program get? How about LSU basketball? Or hell how about the booster from LSU paying the Oline Alexander’s father 180k? I mean all of these cases can be found pretty easily online. Those are the known.

I'll admit that reading through the "stuff" in this thread is more than I could bear. What gives you hope that it isn't over?
I listened to a recruiting podcast the other day and guys were saying that it wasn’t over. They also said from speaking to guys close to Hardy that it wasn’t over.

You've named 3. Even if you named 30 instances that would be a small number % wise to every player at every school. Another thing, a house these days cost $100,000+, cars $25,000+, I don't see a team spending a million dollars a year buying houses and cars and not getting caught just to get basically the same players other schools are getting for free. If every team is doing it, and 10-15 players a team each year gets paid then you are talking about thousands of players across the country getting illegal benefits EVERY year. The NCAA may be blind but there is no way 1000+ athletes each year are receiving improper benefits without getting caught.

I know one being recruited right now that hasn't been offered anything and would not go somewhere that did. He's got like 20 offers and NOBODY has offered him anything illegal. I would also think that I'd be certain players were accepting illegal benefits before I'd make a simple blanket statement that it happens a bunch everywhere.
Clueless comes to mind.....

Problem is, you clearly can’t trust a word he says. Who knows the truth?

I don’t believe he even knows at this point. After the ink is dry, hopefully, he is satisfied in his decision and not wondering “what have I’ve done?” Spotlight goes off at some point and you have to live with your decisions.
