'26 TN ATH Joel Wyatt

There is one thing that would suck more than not getting his commitment next week: agreeing to let the kid play his preferred position only for him just to get him here but he never sees the field or is minimally impactful while eating up our resources in the process
Other teams do it to keep kids away from us. But yes, its unfair to kid.

Just got a CB for Golston. Hope we land the kid, but go get best players.

I just have a bad feeling he’s not gonna pick on account of his seeming reluctance to play LEO.

And while part of me wishes the staff would tell the kid he can come here and play safety, I also know that it’s best to follow your evaluations and if they believe his best future is at Leo, to be true to that.
Honestly, I don’t look at him and see LEO. Maybe I’m wrong and his frame can carry the extra weight/muscle required

I dont get why the staff is so dead set on him being a leo and not wr. Our wr depth is horrible and he could provide that big body wr that we need for ‘26. Would suck badly if we miss on the top instate guy for that reason. Not to mention we only have 1 wr committed for ‘26, but 2 LEOS already, and it’s looking like keys will either be lsu or miami and bey is going to a&m, we need him at wr
Because from all reports he can't catch.

For a guy who’s gonna need time anyway to put on weight to play LEO, I see absolutely no reason why he couldn’t try out at safety if he wanted to. Maybe the staff has a good one, idk.

If the staff thought he was a top 60 recruit in the country at wide receiver would they want him to play WR? Its all speculation but the staff is being honest to him where they see his future, would it be better to tell him hes a WR, pay him like a top 100 recruit at WR and then make him switch positions? Coaches cant get away with what they use to be able to do now that they are in the NIL and Portal era.

Is it the part where Hubbs says "we still feel like Tennessee has the best chance to land him. " that leads you to believe this?

“I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a Vol” - AP the day before a kid picked USF over us.

VQ guys don’t know anything, really.

So I don’t bank much in what they say. My thought was my gut feel - we want him to play a position he apparently has little interest in playing. I don’t see how that’s a match. I hope I’m wrong. And I might be considering the poster in this thread that is close to him is suggesting he likely ends up a Vol.

Plus if he’s an EE you’d be wasting an entire first spring and probably first season of time when you’re not counting on him playing that you could have him on the necessary nutrition plan/weight room plan to get him prepped to rotate in as sophomore. If you’re farting around letting him try something for a year you’ve now stunted his growth and it may be year 3 before he can contribute if the experiment doesn’t work.

They know more than gut feelings and the reading the 'tea leaves' group on here.

Golston and Edwards are LEO types. Groves more of a hand in the dirt DE I think. Why are we set on Wyatt playing edge as well? Seems redundant.
I think you’re spot on with this.

I’m saying we get Wyatt. Makes no sense to pigeonhole him position wise before he even gets here. We move guys around all the time.

I guess they probably do. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna forfeit my right to express my thoughts on recruitments and blindly follow what they “believe.”

You can, though.
You can do what you want. Not sure how your 'rights' are being infringed upon. Just important to let others that don't overreact know there are people with more intel that have quite a bit more knowledge on the topic. But carry on standing on your roof with chicken wire and aluminum foil to come up with your conclusions as to what a 17-18 year old is thinking

Golston is likely a SDE too, IMO
Yea we are pretty versatile in our pairings, still unsure why Wyatt would be locked into edge. Seems like we can pick whoever we want at edge, we have had a lot more challenges grabbing jumbo athletes at S or WR potentially.

I’m with you. Let him start at Safety or WR. If he adds weight, move him to tight end or LB/Edge if he doesn’t have the hands to catch.
