Time to replace John Currie

Mr. Currie knows he's on the clock...this could be a make or break decision for him and his tenure as AD...he knows it too, but don't forget he answers to others higher in the food chain...that's just the way it is...and of course the fans are left hanging in limbo and the longer this drags on the more fans Mr. Currie and the Vols will lose...:swoon3:

PS. I'm trying to be patient, but it's tough...:)

GO VOLS!

Impulsive, irrational decisions by former ADs landed us in this position. All that matters is that Currie makes the right hire. Time table is irrelevant for the most part. This recruiting class might be sacrificed but making the right hire is more important than anything.

Of course it is...but keeping Butch around has no effect on that.

Some things don't require 1500 words.

As is a thread wanting a guy fired after only 6 months, only because he's not pandering to the loudmouths who think they need to know everything.

Well, you'd better fire Fulmer, the Haslams and several other boosters. None of them want CBJ fired while the team could still be bowl eligible. Everyone remembers the difficult situation with Fulmer getting fired with 3 games left. They don't want that to happen again.

Why on earth cant we just let the season play out?

I think the "why" was laid out pretty clearly in the original post. The longer Butch is allowed to dig the hole, the more damage is done and the longer it takes to dig out. I realize that some people are going to take whatever crap is fed to them and eat it, but I have yet to hear one logical argument as to what good it does to keep Butch any longer.

If you consider the pros and cons of firing Butch now vs. at the end of season, it makes absolutely no sense to be trigger happy and push him out of the door now. If you give him the axe now, the entire recruiting class becomes open targets for the rest of the country. As well, no one is going to be hired until after the season over. So whats the point?

Recruiting class is likely screwed regardless other than kids that just want to be at UT. Recruiting is about relationships and most of this staff is gone. Again the hope is Butch can win Missouri, southern Miss, Kentucky and possibly Vanderbilt. The back end of our schedule is much more winnable than the front. No interim fixes this offense period. Our best shot is for him to win out and leave. Butch wants to be gone worse right now than Tennessee fans want him gone.

Let's see how he handles the transition to a new coach. If there isn't one, though...

Still confident about Butch, are ya? Yeah, no need to aim high. Mediocrity is so comfortable

If he pulls off trading Butch and some sacks of cash for some magic beans he is a genius.

Heard today that Butch is in a ultimatum game at Kentucky. He has to win that game or he is fired. If he wins there we keep plugging along with him until he loses another game this season.
Several boosters want him fired now but the Haslams still holding out.

And you know this how?:clapping:

Because that is the logical thing to do and this is the overreact and piss your pants VN football forum

Currie seems to be afraid that if he hires a coach that has had 7/8+ wins over the last 3 years, that many coaches will be afraid to come here due to the high expectations. He's waiting for butch to win 6 so he can justify his firing to prospective coaches.

Bama fired Shula after having a 10 win season the year before. Expectations are welcomed by winners.

There wasnt a Decemeber early signing period in Fulmer's last season FWIW

They're not looking at saving much of that at this point. I don't blame them. More important to not wind up with another Dooley or Jones at the sake of saving a few 17 year olds from looking elsewhere..

Exactly. He is poison to the locker room, much like a disgruntled star player who no longer wants to be a part of the program.

It's time for Butch to go, for the kids sake. We need an interim now.

Yeah red necks constantly spewing hatred for the man is good for the kid's.

Bump.

No more non-emotional over analyzation.

****it. He has dropped the ball. Smoke his ass, Butch’s too.

I have one contact who works within the UT AD; we were best friends growing up and I still talk to him once or twice a week. I wouldn’t say he is real high up in the AD but it’s not like he’s at the bottom of the totem pole either. I always try to get information out of him but he usually won’t give me much, usually just saying he’s not really privy to all the inside info. But I spoke to him earlier today, and as a big UT fan, he’s obviously real upset about what is going on. He finally opened up to me a little bit, and he said the talk within the department is that Currie really doesn’t want to replace any major coaches, such as football and men’s / women’s basketball, in his first year. Also, apparently the Chancellor and President are believed to have put some pressure on Currie to keep things the same for now, as they feel the athletic department has finally turned a corner financially, and they don’t want to spend a bunch of money on a buyout right now. He said the boosters definitely are putting pressure in the other direction, but he states the boosters really don’t have as much influence this time around, at least not as much as a lot of people think...he said it’s more important what the Chancellor and President want to do. Plus he said our new Chancellor feels like our boosters have had too much influence on the AD in the past. And then there is also the problem of trying to get the boosters on the same page in terms of a replacement. He thinks that if a move is made, it won’t be until after the season. And if Butch makes a bowl game, the administration will definitely try to keep him. Plus he said we will likely make a bowl at 5-7 due to our improved APR and how well the fans travel. He said if attendance really falls off, that might change their minds. He wanted to emphasize that this is just what he had heard within the AD and as of now, should just be considered rumors...none of this came from Currie himself. He did add, however, that he personally thinks we will end up going 4-8 and a change will have to be made. But if we somehow make a bowl, he said not to be surprised if they just try to sell this as one down year due to new quarterbacks and a lot of injuries.

He also added that when you talk to Butch in person, he talks just like he does in press conferences...nothing but canned answers and cliches. He said a lot of people think he might be a robot. He also said that there are a lot of rumors that Butch constantly sucks up to the new Chancellor and she really seems to like him.

Would Butch still be here if Blackburn was AD?

Yes. One man isn't the problem with UT athletics. You can change ADs but you'd still have the same hurdles for him to get through. I'm surprised a change hasn't been made after the Kentucky loss but it's still more about making the right hire than the timing of Butch leaving.

Rumors, rumors.

If all that is true our University leadership really is stupid beyond help.
