Time to replace John Currie

I was fully expecting to see some kind of announcement today. Nothing. So carry on, business as usual. I’m sure the coaches are working overtime developing a great offensive game plan for Kentucky. Maybe we’ll get 10 first downs and 150 yards this week.

He hasn't said a damn word about the situation. That's why fans are mad. No actions are being made either
So you want him to give regular updates about a coaching search to replace a guy who hasn't been fired yet? Got it. Or you want him to tell everyone exactly when he plans to fire Butch? I'm pretty sure that if/when a decision is made, they'll make an announcement.

No need to blame Currie. He's just doing what the Haslam's tell him to do.

At some point, the anger needs to be directed at the Haslams instead of Jones and Currie.

How about this on The Rock: "Take Back Neyland - Fire Butch Jones; Take Back UT - Refuse Pilot $$" ?

At this point there is absolutely no reason for Butch to still be on campus. Now it's time to think about the future of the UT football program and holding on to what little improvements that Butch has been able to make over the last 5 years. It was understandable that Butch would have been allowed to take the Bama beating before being released, but now the program, the players, and the fans need to be concerned with next year and after. The only possible reasons for Butch to still have a job:
1. Currie believes that Butch can turn this around.-I don't think this could possibly be the case but it had to be mentioned as a possibility.
OR
2. The reports of the buyout being reduced if Butch doesn't make a bowl game are true. If this is the case and Currie is willing to damage the recruiting class, the new coaches, the current players, and the fan base to save money after everything that everybody has been put through, then this job is too big for him.
OR
3. Currie just has not clue what he is doing and what it is costing the program.

The players and fans deserve more than this. We deserve to have hope for the future and instead we are still all paying for the many many mistakes of the UT athletic administration while they try to save money. Saving money is what got us here in the first place. An interim coach can give the program and fan base a shot in the arm and is the only hope we have at getting to a bowl game and giving the new coaching staff the extra practices that are so valuable to player development. If Currie is willing to throw this away to save money, then this program is too big for him. If he doesn't care any more about they program than this, it is time to replace him as well. I for one, don't want to have to listen to the new staff talk about the "improvements" that UT has made because they made it to a bowl game. Or watch another AD give a coach extensions and pay raises for getting the program back to mediocrity. If Butch was good at anything it was recruiting. I don't want to see this undone over the UT admin's desire to save money. If they want to save money, I think it's time for the fans to save money and stay home on game day until the admin takes winning seriously. The AD made these mistakes and instead of owning the mistakes, they want the players and the fans to pay for it. If this is the case, I say it's time to get a AD that can handle a program that expects winning and will accept nothing less. That is all.
I say fire everyone!
I got my hip boots on because @@@t is getting deep!

I wonder if Currie was impacted by what happened when Fulmer was fired mid season.

Or observing how LSU handled similar situations

Never had a mid season firing turned out well unless another coach has expressed great interest.

Soon

1 key difference: Fulmer coached rest of the season and Butch would not.

Don't have it in me to read all the comments at this late hour haha. But Perhaps this will be what it takes to get Currie out the door and Phil into the AD position? He would be great, and Currie has zero confidence from anyone on Rocky Top. He needs to go. 2nd least popular resident of Knoxville right now.

I don't like the guy but maybe Currie is strategically waiting it out. Maybe he knows that with the next game being an away game he doesn't have to deal with the embarrassment of a possible sparse stadium. Lose to UK and there will definitely be a small crowd at home against Southern Miss unless you fire the coach. But maybe I'm giving Currie too much credit.

At this point, I think anything logical with regard to Currie is "too much credit"...

The original posting makes no sense. Assumes facts not in evidence. Has no idea what is taking place behind the scene. Unaware of the complexities of handling a buyout. Other than that, they nailed it.

Go back to bed Vicky........

Butch is gone. The idea is to let him coach out the season and get employment elsewhere. UT wants him gone, he wants to be gone. Currie isn't formally talking to anyone but interest is being gauged on a few people. A short list will be available by the time Butch is out the door.

Well, you'd better fire Fulmer, the Haslams and several other boosters. None of them want CBJ fired while the team could still be bowl eligible. Everyone remembers the difficult situation with Fulmer getting fired with 3 games left. They don't want that to happen again.

Why on earth cant we just let the season play out?

Butch should be fired NOW! Don't you people realize that the 85’ Bears are going to trot out onto the field at UK as soon as we do that?

LOL

Clearly, a well thought out response. Lawyer?

Impulsive, irrational decisions by former ADs landed us in this position. All that matters is that Currie makes the right hire. Time table is irrelevant for the most part. This recruiting class might be sacrificed but making the right hire is more important than anything.

Folks,
Put down the pitchforks and torches.

John Currie is a very deliberate man. He IS decisive, but gathers data first. I was impressed that he wrote many of us, asking good questions about the Lady Vol decision, i was also frustrated that it took so long for him to make a decision when the data was CLEARLY supporting Bringing Back the Brand and Logo. Eventually, in time, he did the right thing.

SO, it's painful to wait, but wait we must. He WILL handle this in time.

I have no sources, no friends or in-laws in the UTAD, I have NO inside information, i'm just saying from MY personal 1 on 1 interactions with John Currie, he's a man of process, character and he loves Tennessee. I'm sure this hurts him to see this year. You are only doing our program harm by calling for his dismissal. He's been here less than 8 months.

Enhance your Chill,

Fulmer still had a top ten class with 3 games left and wasn't dropping recruits left and right.

Butch's 2018 class is hemorrhaging guys left and right. Also, Fulmer's team weren't underdogs to Kentucky.
