Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

Currie wants to conduct the search quietly with private conversations with potential coaches and their representatives. Gruden could be doing him a favor by consuming most of the public attention while Currie talks with guys who are currently coaching. The fact that we don't know what's happening is a positive sign.

Told you my thoughts on this yesterday. It's so much more than just Gruden.

I thought if we hired Gruden, or even tried really hard, it would mean that the "powers that be" have actually changed and are putting more emphasis on winning.

Knowing we pushed hard for guys like Gruden or Kelly, whether we got them or not, would make me feel better about whoever we end up with.

Seems Florida has tried to get and has a shot at Kelly. I know some here don't want him anyway, but did we even call? Even if we had no real interest, don't you at least call? Maybe we did, I don't know. I'm not hearing anything solid about anyone, except Gruden and the only thing solid in him is the theory. No need to tell me what you or anyone else thinks about that, I already know. Haha.

Behr, we got until Monday before we hear anything. If Currie's first choice is coaching anywhere, he will wait until his team concludes the regular season. Ole Miss didn't talk to Cut until our regular season was over in 98.

If you have no real interest, why call? Then again, maybe Currie did call. Who knows? Personally, I feel real good about the fact we are hearing nothing from Currie. When Hamilton and Hart did searches, we heard a little too much. How did that work out? Us not hearing anything this time is by design, and Currie isn't flinching.

Season winds up for most everybody this Saturday. Then, whatever Currie's process is starts. If he gets the hire made fast, noon or Monday evening might be the time to start expecting some real news. Realistically, he might get this done before Friday. If anyone starts drinking, wait till Saturday and give your keys to someone a little less concerned.

And stop wanting Kelly. He ain't all that.

I don't drink.

Didn't say I wanted Kelly, but I'll want him if I choose too.

I think you misunderstood my point.

It's all good. I'm not trying to cure cancer, I'm just taking about football coaches.

I just don't understand why it bothers so many people as bad as it does. It's a message board. Thank the good Lord we aren't limited to talking about what just one person wants to talk about.

Don't really care, just don't understand it.

Rofl you can ask the exact same thing about people who believe he’s coming. Suggest he’s not and some of you have a freakin fit.

i saw a post, forget by who, the other day with the best analogy for the gruden (or insert any other big name hire's name here) deal...

250 out, slightly up hill...do you lay up, or get the 3 wood?

get the three wood, and if at first you don't succeed, you go Tin Cup, and tell Cheech "gimmie another ball".

i get that, and agree with it.

I see this as the most likely reason why Currie has not addressed the rumors that have reached a national level. If all the focus is on Gruden then he can almost freely reach out to Mulllen, Patterson, Frost....hope we go no further than that lol.

I am just not sure he is in touch with the impact it is having on the vocal minority that are 100% convinced Gruden is a done deal. Maybe its insignificant but anyone I talk to its all they talk about and many will give no other coach a chance. It has to also affect any prospective candidates view of the job especially in regards to the fan base and the Boosters who have leaked what I consider false information to create an outcry in the fanbase for Gruden.

Hopefully, unless the 1% chance Gruden is actually considering an offer, that the AD will at the very least issue a press release stating they reached out to Gruden and he was not interested a few days before announcing the hire and give it a few days to simmer down. It seems to already be doing so as the Gruden thread is hitting the brakes on posts so I think people are coming to the realization that he is not going to be the next HC.

Where did I say you couldn't? I agree.

I've never had a fit. I've been consistent with my opinion. I've defended both sides of the argument.

It could be time to move on, but don't mention it in the JG thread. Or even talk bad about their majestic Beaver. You will be publically shamed and ridiculed.

Whatever is taking place concerning our new coach, it's my opinion Currie will be handing it slightly more professionally than we have seen in our past two ADs. I don't believe he is going to put himself or the university out there as having actually offered the job to anyone which in turn could be used as a pr coup by ego swollen coaches as having turned us down. It's why the whole Gruden thing IMO was complete horse xxxt from the get go IMO. Will Currie gauge interest from a candidate including Gruden? Yes, it takes about a 5 minute phone call. Will he spend much time on any candidate unlikely to actually take the position? No. For Currie to get to the point in the season where he can notify other ADs he intends to speak to one of their coaches communicates to my mind a degree of professionalism most in the pro Gruden threads cannot fathom. Clandestine meetings. smoke screened aircraft flying around, warring boosters arguing over who has the biggest schlong, mind readings of what Gruden is thinking based on his supposed melancholy at a Monday night NFL game, is not something I believe a pro like Currie would be participating in or sanctioning. He cannot stop wackos from being wackos, what he can do is be professionally responsible in doing his job and a lot of that begins this weekend once most NCAA coaches have ended their regular seasons and can entertain job offers. It didn't happen weeks ago when Gruden was a "done deal," if it was a done deal, Currie would have been doing and acting much differently then and now.

Butch was malignant to the fan base. Bring on the cure.

You just should be careful not to make outright false statements . I think it wasn’t “ them “ that called you out , it was a very specific “ HIM” 😉

Yes, time to grow up and get the pitchforks and torches ready for whoever they hire that isn't Gruden.

I believe that Gruden was never in play and it wasnt because the UTAD did not want him. I believe UT reached out to him and his agent said no interest once again.

Gruden did not in 2012 and does not in 2017 want to coach here.

Funny because people who believe Gruden is a strong possibility are the actual ones who care about being National Title Contenders again.

We’re tired of being mediocre while some of ya’ll are ok with it.
