Time to Move on From Gruden Talk?

What is perplexing is that everyone states that Gruden loves UT, yet his behavior (assuming he has no interest in the UT job, and is just toying with UT fans for whatever reason) is injurious to UT. If, in the aftermath of having to hire Google coach #3 in less than a decade, stories come out verifying that Gruden was just playing with us, my guess is that he will become persona non grata in East Tennessee.

yes, time to move on. kinda wish it'd of never gotten off the ground. it's not been good for us these last two searches. too many dots need connected.....and man is there some effort going in to that..........

but so many are gruden or bust, there's going to be too many folks really upset it's not Gruden, when we're probably going to get a really good coach out of this.....and the "back up plans" some have listed if we don't get gruden....

jeez..."ill take" patterson, peterson, fuente, or franklin. well...duh. so would most anyone...cause those are guys that would be on most's A List.

and i don't think any of those kind of guys are neccessarily all that realistic really. you ask, you find out, if you can get one, you make it happen, yeah...but i don't see any of those getting serious...

so i do agree..the sooner we can move on, the better.

Because they're making up the "He loves UT" in their minds; he loves us about as much as he loves Subway.

I will say as much as I want Gruden... If he doesn’t take the gig this time then his name should never ever be associated with another UT coaching search again. I will officially be off the Gruden train and UT train at that point.

He was a GA at UT. Met his wife while on The Hill that's about it. He actually graduated from Dayton. It's a myth he has this great love and attachment to the place.

He absolutely has not.

“You know what Mike, I haven’t talked to anybody and all I really have in my life is my family and football, that’s it,” Gruden said. "I’m real sensitive to the coaches that are out there, so I don’t speculate. I just love football and I’m just trying to hang on to the job I have. I’m very fortunate to be with the people I’m with.
"I don’t know what's going to happen in the future, I just know this — I’m going to give my best effort to the game, stay prepared and I love Monday Night Football, don’t plan on leaving, but as you know in life, you never say never to nothing."

Clearly says he's trying to keep the job he has. And don't plan to leave.

Y'all are caught up in all the other "never say never" crap to accept it

It cut some of the quote out. Here's the link

That is about as far from a no as you could ever have from a guy who is currently employed. It’s very unlikely he takes the job, but he has not denied it.

Someone knows out there whether he is coming or not, I suspect that someone was told to keep it quiet 🤫. Now, my problem is this: why can’t you announce it now and get ahead on the recruiting trail, if he has someone? How is this announcement going to affect the Vanderbilt game? Why are we even worried about this game for? Our season is wrecked, recruiting looks weak, and I believe we waited to long to fire Butch to the point that I feel Currie has to rush to get someone now. The media for the past week has been bouncing around like a ping pong ball on Gruden, saying one thing or the other. One day he is coming and the next he isn’t. What good does it do to keep this whole thing tight lipped, when it needs to be done now, this week. Geter done Curry, and put volnation back on the map along with our football program.

I think you're right, but it's a little amazing how the lid has stayed on this from the booster/AD end. I think in my mind I habitually treat this as if Gruden has a current coaching job and is doing the regular dance, but that's not the case. He's not even working in the same field really. He can wait forever and has zero incentive to comment.

Hyams was saying last week he had heard during the 2012 Grumania that UT officials asked him to help put a kibosh on the rumors. He basically said “Hey I didn’t start them. It’s not my fire to put out.”

To say he isn’t enjoying it would be complete denial.

Because he's not coming. Why would they be wasting time and money talking to these other guys IF they had Gruden

Let’s say that he isn’t coming then, did Currie waist time to fire Butch? I feel he should’ve fired him after the Georgia game and got a head start, but what do I know? He might’ve started looking after that game. I hope so! :hi

Hyams doesn't know what he's talking about.

Gruden does love UT and has said so many times over the years. Hell, his kid goes here and he's been at this school numerous times. The idea that he's just using us or, even worse, just likes the publicity, doesn't jibe with the type of dude he is.

People have heard nothing from anyone in the know and now they are making up narratives to satisfy their impatience. We'll know soon. Well, relatively soon.
