Tim Banks to Duke? That wouldn't be good

The Banks bashing on here is funny.

We have a limited roster taking 80 snaps a game, yet we are near the top in the country in TFLs. Yes, we struggle on third downs, but both the TFL stat and the third down issues point to LB play, which was always our weakest position group. There is little CTB can do except develop the guys he has.

Banks has grown leaps and bounds and even Beasley is a lot better than he was early in the year. The entire defense looks prepared every game though. They just aren’t as talented as we would like. But they don’t give up. They fly to the ball. All the fundamentals have improved tremendously.

Not a single position group on defense has performed worse than could be expected.

I am not sure what else he could do.
Banks did something with NOTHING

Maybe. But the test is improvement. IMO, the problem with him competing for the job is that he really only has one year as THE DC. He has shared the job in the past.

Not that Duke isn't a OJT type of job.... but he'd be learning on the job and take some lumps. Duke will likely be looking to pay their coach $2-3 million. It may not be worth the hassle or risk for a guy like Banks.

But,if your goal is to become.a head coach, then, the pressure at a "lesser"school in a softer conference would not be.bad.I really hope. That Coach Banks stays at IT a couple.of years at least, showing great improvement each year.

And you are so sure it can't be done with Banks? One year with a depleted roster and you think he can't do it. Unbelievable.
Not big on the bend but don't break defense. 3rd down stoppage was horrible. Dual threat qbs ran at will. Besides that, the defense was much improved. Can he improve on that with talent? Probably, but it still has to do with scheme.

You are right, but Cutcliffe has been there for half that time.

Ok…….so do you think Duke isn’t a place where coaches go to die? Or maybe it wouldn’t be a stepping stone destination if the next coach had some marginal success?

The last two head coaches had a considerably high amount of staff turnover, and after those coaches were fired the truth of how they ran their style dictated those changes.
TN has the money to pay its assistant coaches head coach money for lower tier colleges so money will not be an issue.
Listening to players this past season, all the talk has been about Family, Trust, Love, and enjoy going to "work".
If your workplace is good, and money is comparable then you hold out for the mega-deal not Duke.

Why don't you do a little research and do a breakdown over the season on what percentage of yards the defense gave up by quarter. I can't believe you feel this is a bend don't break defense. The practically lead the nation in tackles for Loss. Not exactly sitting back waiting on the offense to come to them.
