Butch's system SUCKS and we have seen it enough to know. He shouldn't be teaching anybody offense, he should have long talks with Spurrier and learn what a good offensive scheme looks like.
My ex could never grasp it.. I just chalked it up to her never being truly passionate about anything.. My first UT game (I don't remember) I was 2 years old. My grandpa took me with him. He said he knew I was gonna forever be a Vol fan because every time the crowd would get loud I just laughed..
Instead of everyone just saying his system sucks and so on, back that up with a specific "system" you wanna see and why..
It's only a "problem" if you have no solution. I won't even listen to an employee if all they come to me with is a complaint.. At least have the intellect to come with a solution to the complaint or issue you have..
Everyone is saying bring on Helfrich but has anyone that complains about our current "System" taken time to look at what Oregon has done in their "System" the past 10 years?
Show me success in Butch's system. He took the most talent he has EVER had on offense anywhere to an 8-4 record. That's just great. Defense aside you couldn't out score SC or Vandy with the talent he had on offense ? Your best choice for OC is a yes man in your pool buddy Debord. You become great by hiring the best people and not just yes men.
Yes let's look at what Oregon's "system" has done in the last 10 years.
3 Rose Bowls, 2 national title appearances

First, from what I've been told, Butch Jones is a full go at Tennessee. He has kicked the tires at Purdue but there's really no interest there from either side. He's told multiple people that he knows that his best opportunity is the one he already has. I'm sure that there will be more rumors and tire kicking but there's very little chance that he will go elsewhere.
I believe that you will see a better close to recruiting than you might expect and a renewed sense of urgency from the top down. I know that CBJ has told people that he's already reevaluated some of the changes that he made this year and has identified what he sees as success and failure and is already working on a plan for 2017.
Whatever you might think of him, no one works harder than Butch Jones. He is extremely driven.
I also believe, based on several conversations, that CBJ is very serious about bringing in highly regarded assistants to replace anyone who leaves. There will almost certainly be a shared OC position with DeBord coaching the OL and a high profile QB coach. I know that there already has been an informal 3rd party conversation with Helfrich and Applewhite. I believe that both of them would be open to the CO OC idea.
Bob Shoop will be the DC at Tennessee next year. CBJ doesn't want to start over again and Shoop knows that his reputation took a bit of a hit this year. He loves living in Tennessee and he's excited about what can be done with some changes next season.
I've been doubtful about JG as a passer because I've seen him be very inconsistent in that department. Someone I trust very much has relayed to me that he has made a huge leap in the last couple of months specifically. He's really worked very hard to learn the offense and has looked very confident. He's always been an electric runner and now he's rounding into form as a passer. I love QD but if JG keeps improving, especially with a really good QB coach, he's most likely going to be the man.
I've been critical of CBJ this year and I have my doubts still. However, he is the absolute best option for Tennessee for the next couple of years. The worst thing that could happen is for him to leave voluntarily or involuntarily. There isn't anyone who is a viable, better option than Butch right now. No one knows how things will play out. Those who are comparing him to Dooley are foolish and those longing for Kiffin are deluding themselves. The proof will be in the next few weeks as to how the rest of CBJ's tenure will go here. If Bob Shoop is allowed to get coaches of his own choosing and CBJ can attract a young, high profile QB coach, I'll see that as a huge step forward in the evolution of Butch Jones."

You are absolutely spot on. Unfortunately you are talking about as big of a control freak as their's ever been. Even worse you're talking about a control freak with very thin skin. He accepts no responsibility for his failures, ( he only talks about accepting that responsibility), and that will ultimately be his undoing here. Two things that I would like to see out of CBJ (and this is just my opinion):
1. Lose the constant cliches and coachspeak. Speak from the heart and be real with everyone. People will like him more.
2. Let his foot off the brake and let his OC and DC coach. He is not Nick Saban and he is not Chip Kelly. He doesn't specialize in playcalling. Let "the best staff in America" do their job and hold them accountable. This requires he understands his strengths and weaknesses better.
I'll give you the SC game.. but Vandy had a defense that was not a joke. they gave up 13.24.38.30.13.20.16.17.23.26.17.34 in points this year.
TN scored this year: 20.45.28.38.34.38.10.21.55.49.63.34
While our defense gave up: 13.24.19.28.31.45.49.24.0.36.37.45
This post is one of the favorites I have read here. I have laughed so hard that I shook for several minutes. Nothing about you, OP. I know you are just relaying what you heard. But considering how our fans are feeling about Butch at the present time and the stoic manner that you delivered this news and the reactions to it, it just brought down the house.
So Butch has been out shopping around and hoping to get out of here.......and he discovers nobody was interested....so he decides since there aren't any other options available now, he's going to give us another go...:thud: On top of that, his agent petitions for another raise and extension from Dave Hart. This is pure comedy. Somebody missed their calling and should be doing stand-up routines in Las Vegas. This is rich.lol:
I would be shocked if 20% of Volnation could name half of the staff.

Who said he really tried to go there, message board rumors? I'm not defending him, but if you really believe all these "sources", then what about all the others? I've seen everything from gruden again, to Butch is fired in the past week, and none of its true. Wishful thinking by some, that gets turned into the gospel by many.
So are you saying Vandy has more talent than Tennessee?
No sir you never heard me say that.. The talk was of how inept our offense was and I was simply stating that in the SC game there was zero excuse for that lame duck performance the entire organization put forth. The Vandy game based on what I had seen the previous few weeks concerned me because their defense had proven all year to be tough to score on and we have been atrocious down the stretch on defense. I wasn't confident we could win a shootout.
All that being said, Vandy has some playmakers, but no, not more top to bottom talent than UT. That game was 2 things. They wanted it more than we did, and we got out coached. IMO anyway. No one can lay the blame for that loss on the offense however.
