Tidbit from just a vol

Butch is 2-2 versus Vanderbilt and people think he is going to turn it around by keeping Debord and the OL coach. If Debord is not gone and a new OC in place then we have no chance of going forward. The retirement plan is done. If Shoop is not allowed to remove coaches and bring in his own then he is fighting up hill too and may not have any improvement next year. No doubt Butch works hard, but without changes in his approach to coaching and conditioning then we have seen his best at 8-4.

And some of us have been saying this since the vandy nightmare...

Butch is keeping debored so debored can teach whoever butch brings in how butch wants his offense run. If by some miracle butch is here past 2017 I think debored retires and the new oc has had a full year to learn how butch wants his system run

If by some ultra slim chance he brings in Helfrich where does that put CZA? Out?
He was the passing game coordinator.

Butch's system SUCKS and we have seen it enough to know. He shouldn't be teaching anybody offense, he should have long talks with Spurrier and learn what a good offensive scheme looks like.

Purdue doesn't want our coach, that is the whole picture.

Who said he really tried to go there, message board rumors? I'm not defending him, but if you really believe all these "sources", then what about all the others? I've seen everything from gruden again, to Butch is fired in the past week, and none of its true. Wishful thinking by some, that gets turned into the gospel by many.

If Butch doesn't get an extension this year, which he won't, and he didn't get an extension last year, then what does that signal to any possible assistant coach Butch tries to bring in? He is a dead man walking, unless he pulls a rabbit out of a hat next year. No assistant worth the time of day is going to walk into that situation. If, heaven forbid, Butch comes back for another season he is pretty much stuck with the staff he has.

I think most can decipher the smoke well enough to know, if Purdue would have him he would be gone yesterday.

I dont think it sucks.. i just think, if you got a qb that runs better than he throws, then thats what you should be doing. Butch and debord tried too much to make dobbs something he wasnt. A pocket passer. This offense is for dual threats, thats why i dont understand the dormady signing.. butch can sit back and say this isnt a spread offense all he wants, but its a spread, and dormady doesnt fit it..

Links? I mean seriously, other than rumors on here, there is zero evidence of this. If you believe smoke, then why isn't gruden our coach!? Were you here then? If you were, you should remember how set in stone that was.

JG will be the QB next year imo and here is why:

I was at the Vandy game saturday and with the parents waiting for their kids to get off the bus. Butch shook a few hands and high fived a few BUT he hugged JG parents. Now I may be reading more into it than it really was but I was standing there and saw it with my own eyes.

Go with your instincts.

After the Vandy game, I imagine JG's parents wanted to Butch slap him just like the rest of Vol Nation.

I'm a firm believer that he's been fielding calls since SC.

A guy like VY would be a perfect Butch guy.

Apllewhite could go with Herman back to Texas. Probably would not share title of co OC and Horns would pay more.

Applewhite's name is toxic in Austin. Had an affair with a student trainer while the women's track coach got pushed out for pretty much the same thing.

You've seen Dobbs run this offense and simply closed off any other possibilities.

Two things that I would like to see out of CBJ (and this is just my opinion):

1. Lose the constant cliches and coachspeak. Speak from the heart and be real with everyone. People will like him more.

2. Let his foot off the brake and let his OC and DC coach. He is not Nick Saban and he is not Chip Kelly. He doesn't specialize in playcalling. Let "the best staff in America" do their job and hold them accountable. This requires he understands his strengths and weaknesses better.

If CBJ did this he could be a good head coach. I'm hoping he's learning from his mistakes and ready to lead us to the promise land. He can recruit and be our CEO but let the coaches coach the football.

Butch's soft offensive line zone blocking scheme hasn't gotten us much. And yes Debord the pool guy is 50% of our offensive issues. He has no feel for play calling based upon his results here. Should he add a new wrinkle to the offense he runs it once, it works and in some cases works well, and then it is wadded up and tossed into the trash can never to be used again. We did not see enough of the straight option play with Kamara which worked every time we ran it. We saw the Jennings to Dobbs pass play work once and never saw it again or any of the many options that could have been run from that look. That falls back to Butch. Those plays were probably not part of his "system" so he didn't like to run them no matter the success.

That in itself is the problem.

He can't not be in complete control and just get out of his own way.

Yeah, i do.. its all true.. i told my wife, its worse this year cause we are supposed to be good, which made the losses harder to deal with. at least when i knew we were gonna suck i was prepared. And didnt take it so hard.

My ex could never grasp it.. I just chalked it up to her never being truly passionate about anything.. My first UT game (I don't remember) I was 2 years old. My grandpa took me with him. He said he knew I was gonna forever be a Vol fan because every time the crowd would get loud I just laughed..
