Tidbit from just a vol

Super boring or Super Awesome?

We can have different opinions without all the bashing and back stabbing of our own players and coaches.

Maybe we could spend more time making fun of all the lame teams that weren't able to beat such a weak gator team and how yellow Ole Butter Teeth's teeth are. What about that hire by Ga, when will they figure out the error of their ways? Did Louisville really lose to Ky? That's embarrassing and I don't give a rip about Louisville.

Too many quality subjects to discuss rather than bashing our own.

Go Vols!

Why do that when our own coach gives us so much material to use?

How can we bash a team that beat us? I mean they beat us!

You will never hear me bash ANY player for any reason, they put their bodies on the line for our beloved University.

When a guy who is paid 4 million a year to win games acts like he's doing a great job losing to Vandy and SC and all the other blunders he's had in his tenure here, yeah I'm going to voice my opinion on a message board that was created just for that reason.

negavols love the thread

From what LWS said, he'll be here for the next few years.

I must've missed that?

If David Blackburn is hired, Jones will not make it past next year with another sub-par season.

I will be highly disappointed if Blackburn is not appointed AD.

They think that we hate Butch and the team. No, all we ask is for our coach to live up to expectations. Us "negavols" (who seem to be growing in number since Vandy) know the potential for Tennessee is much higher than what we have shown.

And then they blame the fans and say "we don't deserve good coaching because we are spoiled". Give me a break. We bring in more revenue than almost any other fan base with nothing to show for it.

We DO DESERVE better.
Thats the thing, I don't hate butch, or the team.. i just seebutch for what he is, a good program builder, but thats it. I want to win, i want the team to win, hell, i want butch to win, but it doesn't seem like he's the guy to take us to where we need to be, and thats championship level. If your not trying everything you can to get there or just happy with mediocricy, then go play intramurals..

Right!

I've said it, I hope proves me wrong. I hope he makes the right personal changes that will fix these problems we're having. Butchs problem is his ego, he doesn't want to let go. Hiring buddies and holding on to assistants that can't coach for **** is getting him no where, time for him to re evaluate his 4 years here and make the changes. If he wants to do the same ****, he can GTFO!

28K for ur education man im jealous.....

sallie mae/navient/fed govt own me.....forever

well...I worked at the University my first two years and became a RA my 3rd year. After I graduated I went to Orlando and went thru the nuke pipeline in the Navy. So most of my tuition was paid for by partial scholarship and the military. The Navy had me for 10 years though...

JG will be the QB next year imo and here is why:

I was at the Vandy game saturday and with the parents waiting for their kids to get off the bus. Butch shook a few hands and high fived a few BUT he hugged JG parents. Now I may be reading more into it than it really was but I was standing there and saw it with my own eyes.

He has known JG's Dad for a long time so that would be the reason for high hugging them and showing love. But I do think the stories about Butch playing faves is and will always be true. JG will most likely be the best option next year and definitely moving forward for this offense but my guess would be that it takes an injury or it just being obvious JG isn't ready for him not to be the starter by game 1. Would bet almost anything that Dormady would have to be light years ahead of Jarrett to be named starter. I will be truly shocked if anyone other than JG is named starter vs GA.Tech. I do think Jarrett is the best option and hoping like hell Helfrich is brought in to be Co-OC/QB Coach..Helfrich would be the perfect hire for Jarrett and the entire offense.Just the thought of that and thinking about how dynamic and lethal the offense could be already has me wanting it to be next season already. Just hope I'm not getting this excited and Butch pulls a typical BS Butch move and hires some Co-OC/QB Coach that either hasn't coached anywhere near a Championship caliber power 5 school or has limited experience coaching QB's. Butch better not F these hires up.

I can get on board with this really..I am one of those that most call crazy. UT football really does dictate my mood for the week to come. Win and I am happy, lose and I am not such a fun person to work for or be around. I doubt many have had the number of broken tv remotes, doors, and tv's as I have over the years that UT football has cost me.. Hell I tossed a new tv that was less than 8 hours removed from the store into the pool when Alabama converted a 2 point conversion to tie us 17-17 in 1993. However I doubt that any of the coaches are trying to fail.

I don't personally know any coach who doesn't want to win every time they coach, with the exception of some Upwards basketball programs (and I have a real issue with the whole not keeping score crap too). I understand everyone is upset with Butch's decisions in game. I was mad as hell at more than one of his decisions, but to straight up bash on him even for me is a little too much. I am more upset with the folks that negotiate these contracts. If I negotiated these deals in my profession not only would I be fired, but I would be black balled forever in my industry. So, instead of constantly demeaning the coach, why don't we direct more of our frustrations toward the administration and their constant ineptitude for negotiations?

Jones won't own up to his failures!

He won't make the changes necessary to be successful because of his pride. That's where my issues are.

Side note: I to know the struggle of broken remotes, have not tried the TV thing yet. Always next year though lol

GO VOLS

You're right on that.. Honestly it is hard for most of those guys to do that because it's hard to admit or accept defeat/failure on any level. Plus unless you have the street cred of a Spurrier, Meyer or Saban, some would point to that as weakness..

"I'm gonna voice my opinion", good grief man, no one is trying to take your 1st amendment rights away. If you are willing to bash out opponents but ate willing to bash our team, where's your loyalty?

There are folks that post things in here about our players and coaches worth fighting over, and that's the same fan that would be asking those same players or coaches for an autograph(either for their kid or themselves).

I'm all for discussing should we be in a 4-3 more than using a nickel so much. Or why do we keep throwing is short to set up the deep ball but then never call for the deep throw.

To bash and back stab our own team, that's out of line. There is a difference between that and having a discussion about what we think as fans is the problems out team is having.

It's easy move Debord to ol coach and make Helfich oc! If Debord don't like it! He can exit stage left.

Initially when this talk first started I wasn't one that would have supported this. However upon further review I think he is a great QB coach/ OC, just not ready to be the HMIC.

I didn't really realize the QB's he has coached in his career but I looked it up. He has coached:

Bart Hendricks at Boise State
Andrew Walter at Arizona State
Jeremiah Masoli at Oregon
As well as Mariota..

I feel with the success last year with the easy bowl win along with the number of returning starters and perceived upgrade in DC, the team got complacent last summer. I know there were injuries this year, but even before the injuries, in the app state game, something was wrong.

The Vandy loss might be the best thing to happen to Jones, he must accept something is wrong and fix it. That is hard for him to do, he couldn't even admit they should have gone for 2 up 12 points to UF last year. Admission might be his first step towards success.

It is going to be much harder for Jones, IMO a couple bad seasons killed Fulmer because neither recruits nor coaches want to go to a program in doubt. One of the reasons he had to settle for Clawson again IMO. Luckily UT is still loaded talent wise, so there is still a good chance Jones can fix it next year.

Also I don't see the need for DeBord to leave or be co-OC. He needs to fix a few items, including being very predictable sometimes, but the defense needs much more attention/upgrades. Shoop not fully implementing his system with his coaches probably was a big factor.

I disagree on Debord and the offense part. We badly need an exciting Co-OC/QB Coach to come in and upgrade our offensive philosophy and to make HS kids actually want to come play in our offense. Exactly why we are struggling with QB recruiting and constantly missing out on highly ranked receivers and playmakers. How many HS kids want to come play at a school that doesn't have a true QB Coach and the one Butch calls our QB Coach is a damn grad assistant. Until our QB,WR's and offense starts putting up numbers and has kids want to come play offense here we will struggle getting SEC caliber players. Debord doesn't exactly catch the attention of the higher ranked and more elite type playmakers and QB's. It is absolutely critical for Butch to instill excitement and life into the offensive side of the ball and he knows he has to bring in a Co-OC to do that because Debord will never be able to.

The word "fan" is after all short for fanatic.

a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal

Although the uncritical part always gets lost.

When we can beat our opponents, I'll bash them.

Not like I'm calling Jones out as a man, I'm calling out the fact that he's not a good coach. I haven't attacked his family or said anything that has been negative towards the University.

You can block people if what we post really bothers you that much but....

You need people like us, so you can point your F****** fingers and say that's the bad guy.

Helfrich and Applewhite are good choices but I really like what Heupal did with Mizzou. Other than Lock, there isn't a lot of talent there...they have an abysmal OL and still put up good points.

Helfrich probably fits the Butch system more easily though.

We need to emphasize immediate playing time pitch to 4 & 5* recruits again.

From what I have heard Nick Sheridan most likely will be our QB coach. Not sure how good he is as last year he was not allowed to be on the field to coach. I have heard lot of good things about him but Butch may be under pressure to hire a proven guy too.
Shoop stays from what I have heard. Martinez will be told to look elsewhere after signing day. Unless others leave on their own, that is the only change on the defensive side.

Butch wants to keep same offensive set. May promote Azzani as OC if DeBord was to retire. Butch has told people close to him that he really like how offense evolved this year and wants continuity in that division. They are excited about how they can stretch the field with a better passer and improved WRs. The thought process is lot of early issues of offense were due to lack of passing game and them not running designed runs with Dobbs.

OP is right. Look for some big splashes with recruiting. look for staff to go all in on Trey Smith and Lamonte Wade. Looks like Cam Akers won't come and Etienne is our 3rd RB.

Sheridan will never be promoted to full time QB nor will CZA be promoted to any type of OC unless Butch has zero intentions of coaching at TN past next season. He has no choice but to bring in a Co-OC/QB Coach to build excitement on offense and make it to where recruits want to come play here. Because right now we have very limited options from HS kids that actually want to come play for a dull and seasoned OC like Debord. It's not exactly like CZA has many SEC caliber receivers lining up to come play receiver under him. Who wants to come play WR at a school where you spend more time blocking as a receiver and not getting rewarded with catches and TD's. In Butch's and Azzanni's 4 years of being here they have had one WR catch more than 50 passes in a year and that was before Debord arrives.and have yet to have a 1000 yard receiver..What highly rated HS WR will want to come play WR in this offense and how many highly rated QB's would want to play here while Debord is calling plays and some unknown is your QB Coach? Exactly why Butch has been evaluating everything and is finally seeing what he is doing isn't getting it done. Time to evolve and change or get left behind while another coach takes his job and wins over the fan base.

I appreciate you posting that 91. He's probably right about giving Butch a chance to succeed being the best option, especially as big names start coming off the board at other schools. We'd (most likely) be gambling on an asst or another mid major coach. If we were to make a move, we need a sure thing. I've been as pissed as anyone but truth is truth.

I love the idea of letting Shoop evaluate and replace (if necessary) position coaches. But on the flip side, Martinez better not be here or I'll lose whatever faith I have left. No excuses whatsoever for that DB play.

Getting Helfrich or Applewhite would be amazing. I'd be all in on that. But just like Martinez, Mahoney doesn't need to be here.

Let's hope 17 is a great year. Go Vols.

Apllewhite could go with Herman back to Texas. Probably would not share title of co OC and Horns would pay more.
