And it states that other tires may be kicked, but he's staying? That's a very strange state of affairs. Sounds like someone who's trying to do a shakedown on his current employer. Probably bad timing for that sort of ploy.
I don't think it's as strange as you may think. We'd probably all be surprised to find out who speaks to whom every off-season just because.

Auto-drafts won't save you. The fund raising appeals are endless and apparently target anyone who ever registered for classes at Tennessee.

Tennessee counts anyone who has ever taken a class as an alumni. Not sure if others do it, but I know they have my wife down as one too for taking two courses during our time there. Even though they can't seem to get her first name right.

Lexvol nominated you and CD12 as the ADs.

Thought you show know your name is in the pot.:hi:

No kidding, I graduated in '91 and they wouldn't give me my records until I paid a parking ticket I had my freshman year beside Hess Hall....I was like I just forked over close to 28k for my education and you are going to hold it up for
a 12 dollar parking ticket?

...To all you guys who recently went to UTK I know 28k doesn't sound like a lot but this was Pre-lottery in TN.

The first intelligent post I've read in a week. Enough adolescent, "my feelings are hurt" SEC ranting. The overall trend of the program has been up--and a disappointing end to this season doesn't change that. Stop making predictions about next year--nobody knows crap. Jones has a lot of good qualities, stability is important--and there is no reason why this program can't continue to get stronger.

I feel with the success last year with the easy bowl win along with the number of returning starters and perceived upgrade in DC, the team got complacent last summer. I know there were injuries this year, but even before the injuries, in the app state game, something was wrong.

The Vandy loss might be the best thing to happen to Jones, he must accept something is wrong and fix it. That is hard for him to do, he couldn't even admit they should have gone for 2 up 12 points to UF last year. Admission might be his first step towards success.

It is going to be much harder for Jones, IMO a couple bad seasons killed Fulmer because neither recruits nor coaches want to go to a program in doubt. One of the reasons he had to settle for Clawson again IMO. Luckily UT is still loaded talent wise, so there is still a good chance Jones can fix it next year.

Also I don't see the need for DeBord to leave or be co-OC. He needs to fix a few items, including being very predictable sometimes, but the defense needs much more attention/upgrades. Shoop not fully implementing his system with his coaches probably was a big factor.

From what I have heard Nick Sheridan most likely will be our QB coach. Not sure how good he is as last year he was not allowed to be on the field to coach. I have heard lot of good things about him but Butch may be under pressure to hire a proven guy too.
Shoop stays from what I have heard. Martinez will be told to look elsewhere after signing day. Unless others leave on their own, that is the only change on the defensive side.

Butch wants to keep same offensive set. May promote Azzani as OC if DeBord was to retire. Butch has told people close to him that he really like how offense evolved this year and wants continuity in that division. They are excited about how they can stretch the field with a better passer and improved WRs. The thought process is lot of early issues of offense were due to lack of passing game and them not running designed runs with Dobbs.

OP is right. Look for some big splashes with recruiting. look for staff to go all in on Trey Smith and Lamonte Wade. Looks like Cam Akers won't come and Etienne is our 3rd RB.

JAV is well connected and dropped this off today

First, from what I've been told, Butch Jones is a full go at Tennessee. He has kicked the tires at Purdue but there's really no interest there from either side. He's told multiple people that he knows that his best opportunity is the one he already has. I'm sure that there will be more rumors and tire kicking but there's very little chance that he will go elsewhere.

I believe that you will see a better close to recruiting than you might expect and a renewed sense of urgency from the top down. I know that CBJ has told people that he's already reevaluated some of the changes that he made this year and has identified what he sees as success and failure and is already working on a plan for 2017.
Whatever you might think of him, no one works harder than Butch Jones. He is extremely driven.

I also believe, based on several conversations, that CBJ is very serious about bringing in highly regarded assistants to replace anyone who leaves. There will almost certainly be a shared OC position with DeBord coaching the OL and a high profile QB coach. I know that there already has been an informal 3rd party conversation with Helfrich and Applewhite. I believe that both of them would be open to the CO OC idea.

Bob Shoop will be the DC at Tennessee next year. CBJ doesn't want to start over again and Shoop knows that his reputation took a bit of a hit this year. He loves living in Tennessee and he's excited about what can be done with some changes next season.

I've been doubtful about JG as a passer because I've seen him be very inconsistent in that department. Someone I trust very much has relayed to me that he has made a huge leap in the last couple of months specifically. He's really worked very hard to learn the offense and has looked very confident. He's always been an electric runner and now he's rounding into form as a passer. I love QD but if JG keeps improving, especially with a really good QB coach, he's most likely going to be the man.

I've been critical of CBJ this year and I have my doubts still. However, he is the absolute best option for Tennessee for the next couple of years. The worst thing that could happen is for him to leave voluntarily or involuntarily. There isn't anyone who is a viable, better option than Butch right now. No one knows how things will play out. Those who are comparing him to Dooley are foolish and those longing for Kiffin are deluding themselves. The proof will be in the next few weeks as to how the rest of CBJ's tenure will go here. If Bob Shoop is allowed to get coaches of his own choosing and CBJ can attract a young, high profile QB coach, I'll see that as a huge step forward in the evolution of Butch Jones."

Let's be honest, he's a dead man walking.

There are no quality assistants that will come work for a coach in what is quite obviously his last year. And it's really unfortunate, because 2016 should have been lyle's last year here.

Miles sure had a hard time getting them last year didn't he? :thud:

Some who can see it and some who refuse and hold on to an ideal. I'll let the others sit in their safe place with their safety pins until they are ready to come out. It's just a matter of time when these level of results continue.

I thought Butch was under contract thru 2020. I doubt very seriously Tennessee wants to get back into paying coaches buyout money. Just finished paying Dooley his 102K per month.

Butch is not going anywhere anytime soon.

I took several off campus and get an alumni letter every so often

Sounds like it's been settled, Butch is staying. Let's get behind our coach and our team. The time for dreaming about a change has past, time to Vol up and support the program, no one man is greater than the Vols.

Get it together Butch!

Go Vols!

Applewhite has a great shot at the UH job. Helfrich, that seems like a long way from home.

I hope there's a chance for either.

Doesn't change my position on his abilities and my cheering for the team. Butch is not the team but believe he holds them back. Will just have to be patient.

Lol. Aren't the Hoosiers one of the teams projected to play the Vols in a bowl?

In the Music City, yes. It was a strange move. Sounds like it was more personality related than football related. He had them in back to back bowl since the early 90s.
