Thoughts on 2026 schedule?

They need to spread the non-conference games out in the future, 9 straight sec games with one off the week will be brutal.
The schools set the non-conference dates. Those three dates have been set for over a year. You play the non-league games early to get warmed up for the SEC gauntlet.

Doesn't look too bad. It's got to be 10-2 and a Playoff appearance or bust, right? I mean Bama (still won't be the same as old), LSU (after a disappointing year), & Texas (just doesn't impress me at all as an "elite" team) at home. No Georgia. TAMU looks like the only real challenge away. We are going to have a new QB...but that's college football. I mean if there is ever a time to get it done and make a run it's next year. Am I missing something? Heupel in his 6th season. All of the resources we have. NIL funding. If we are not going to expect big things next year...then when?

That's sad for our program and fanbase if we have to be high to have that optimism 6 years into a Heupel tenure. I really wonder what most of our fanbase thinks of our program. We melt down after every loss like we expect to win them all but do we really (expect to win them all)? I really wonder what the majority of the fans think of TN football. Do we expect to just tread water in the SEC indefinitely or do we expect to be elite some day? Is LSU, Alabama, and even Florida (despite our recent success) out of our league? I don't know the answer to that. It would be interesting to hear what other fans think.

Yeah, this is gonna be brutal. LSU will be tough, I have a feeling Kiffin is about to flip that roster via portal. If we played that schedule this year? Sheesh. But all you need sometimes is a few transfers and a new coordinator, and you're a brand new team. Excellent recruiting class coming in, a lot of them getting here in January. Knowles was the best DC hire we could have possibly gotten.

I hope the staff is aggressive in the portal. Gonna be a tough season otherwise.

It's tough (2027 is brutal) and we are currently cloudy on who will be QB, will be installing a new defense that people say takes two years to truly get to the better results, and home field wasn't an advantage this season. So we probably have a wide range of possible outcomes, some much less pleasant than many of us want to admit right now.

I commented in another thread with our resources and the infrastructure in place, I expect to be in the playoff hunt every year, to make the CFP a minimum of 3 out of every five years, and to have a legitimate shot to win it all at least one of those five. To me, and I invest a few thousand each year in donations and season tickets, that’s not too much to ask.
