Those Talking about Playoffs

We're not making the playoffs... and that sucks. But the reality is, we get to a 9-3 regular season and end up playing a middle of the pack Big 10 team in a bowl game, then we have a shot to end the season with a win and log another 10 win season.

We're doing pretty good if that is considered a down year for us.

Vols do not have a shot at playoffs this season, don't let the 5-2 record distract you. The defense is 2nd to last in the SEC giving up 443 yards/game and 32.7 points a game. Defense is not bailing this team out when the offense doesn't work. I think TN drops 2 more, maybe 3.

We would have to win out. We would also need Ole Miss and Missouri to lose, and we need ND to lose. We also need Texas Tech to lose, I think we would jump Virginia in the polls if we won out.. ESPN give us a 18% chance to make the CFP.

We will be favored to win every one of our remaining games. We need to control what we need to control and let the rest play out. That quite honestly is true FOR all teams in the top 20 or so.

Other teams are going to lose - there are matchups between teams that ensure someone has to lose. Ole Miss and Missouri do not play each other but they play other SEC teams in the group of 0 and 1 loss teams.

If victories in the SEC were based on defense only - then the top teams would be OU, Missouri, Texas, and LSU. Bama is 6, A&M is 7, Georgia is 9, Mississippi is 3rd to the bottom and you would probably say they have a shot.

Those stats are also based on who you have played and how good offensively those teams are. That is not defending Tennessee's number - just saying the numbers are influenced by who the teams play. LSU's average is 293 yet they allowed Vandy 399. The offensive teams seem to win the battle even against the supposedly good defensive teams. It takes both to win games.

Over half the league allows 300+ yards per game.

Vandy is better than Arkansas
Not sure their offense is. You have to spy Pavia and make him beat you from the pocket. LSU went braindead and didn't account for him multiple times Saturday. It really doesn't surprise me Vandy beat LSU. They can't run the ball at all.

That's what they need to worry about, going to be in another dogfight Saturday night.

Personally, I think we will likely win it fairly easy and we need to get a confidence building win. What hurt about Alabama loss was not just that we looked bad against them, we have looked bad against Arkansas and Miss State as well. I think a lot of posters are not taking that into account.

If we get a confident win over UK going into Oklahoma and then beat Oklahoma, that puts us back in the picture. We don't need an Arkansas/Miss State kind of struggle.

And to give equal time to the other side of the ball - Tennessee is second in offensive yards per game with 511 which is 2 yards behind Arkansas. Missouri is 4th - so Missouri is 4th in offense and second in defense.

Tennessee is really bad on the road. You need to feed Bishop and the running backs more. If you have Joey slinging it all day you're going to give up a turnover or two.. Vols are a run first team and they did some stuff out of character Saturday night..

Somewhat agree but they have done well at Kentucky.

Also, Tennessee did struggle with a pretty bad Arkansas team at home. Struggles seem to be no matter where the game is played.

We don't finish 10-2 and if we did we still don't make the playoffs.

This. Assume A&M is in. UGA and Bama at 2-losses (even if that happens) isn't falling below us and if Ole Miss finishes with just two losses they aren't dropping below us. SEC isn't getting five teams in.

We have way too many issues to get in and even if they did they would all just be exposed like Saturday.

Really a timing issue. We keep winning, beating a top 10 OK and Vandy then I think we likely would pass Ole Miss if their loss is later in the remaining season as we would likely be much closer to them in ranking.

If SEC has 5 10-2 teams, all 5 will get in. ACC, B1G, and Big12 all have less candidates this year versus 2024.
In fact, this is shaping up well for the SEC to get 4 to 5 teams in.

Evidently, our non-playoff season was set preseason when it was clear we would lose our 2 corners. Now they are talking like everyone knew the achilles takes this long to heal and thats Gibsons injury was season ending. Why did they not try to replace these 2 positions in the portal? It's like they just said let's go with 2 less guys in the secondary and play prevent defense. My book says you support your weak secondary by bringing the house.

Beat Kentucky
EXACTLY THIS !!!

Even if Vandy and Okie lose games before we play them, we still have to beat them and everyone else on the schedule to even think about playoffs.
FWIW - whoever is sitting in that 12th spot in the polls is going to get kicked out because of the G5 champion rule.

We just have to win out with 10 wins but let’s take a game at a time
