Those Talking about Playoffs

No it is awful, Tennessee is 97th in total defense nationally.
What I originally said was the consistency is the problem bc we have moments where we look like we can play defense . We got off the field on a 3 and out the first possession of the second half. We shutdown Arkansas for a long stretch after starting horrifically. We’re not a good defense at all, I understand this, but the potential for putting it together for a longer period of time is there. I don’t know what they do to get there, maybe put younger more athletic guys at linebacker, but I agree it is not good.

Consistency is a coaching issue in my opinion, im fully aware of the injuries, but should we not be at a point in year 5 with most of this staff to where we have decent back ups as well? I question the development.

Notre Dame is not losing, the USC game was the only team IMO that could have beat them on that mediocre schedule. They are not playing that power house Northern Illinois this year.
AT Pitt could be a tricky game. Probably the only one on the schedule that they could possibly lose.

True but Notre Dame ripped them like a poor step child so that doesn't make us look good.
Pittman was dead man walking and the team quit on him. Offense is clicking now with Petrino. Some say Petrino tanked the offense in the ND game to make sure the coffin was nailed shut completely.

We will be favored to win every one of our remaining games. We need to control what we need to control and let the rest play out. That quite honestly is true FOR all teams in the top 20 or so.

Other teams are going to lose - there are matchups between teams that ensure someone has to lose. Ole Miss and Missouri do not play each other but they play other SEC teams in the group of 0 and 1 loss teams.

We aren't winning in the Swamp. Haven't done it in 22 years and don't feel confident we do it this year either. Hope I'm wrong.

It’s not great at all, but 373 isn’t awful. Not in this world of college football .
It's not, except don't look at the non conference stats. In the SEC ,we're giving up 38 points and 427 yards yards a game. Honestly, if Ala didn't have so many long yardage, time consuming drives they could have put up 450-500..

Well A@M beat Notre Dame so I don’t see where points mean anything. The W or L is the main thing. ND played Arkansas at the perfect time. Things continually evolve during a season comparing scores from September games to October and November games is bad practice. The examples are everywhere. And we still got a ton of changes coming over the next month to 5 weeks. Everything is still on the table but all we can worry about is Tennessee and not beating ourselves and go out and play harder and smarter. We got to grow up, time to get tough and mean. GBO

True, we really need to fix some of the disturbing trends (mistakes) that have started emerging since Miss State game (perhaps even Georgia game).

Not Boy scout Bobby. He watches his P & Qs and is type of guy who would never cheat on his wife.

Winning out probably isn’t enough right now. Our wins need some style points. The Vols need to win big against the unranked teams and win convincingly against the ranked opponents.

Luckily we still have Vanderbilt and Oklahoma left on the schedule. Win both games in regulation and beat Kentucky by 3 scores and voters may want to see us badly enough in December to put us in the playoffs.

If we can’t win convincingly from here on out, they’re probably going to find a reason to bump someone ahead of us in the final voting.

This is not a playoff team. Too many coaching errors and defense is well below standards to make a legit run.

This is exactly why the expanded playoffs will be a joke. Money, money money is the only reason. Destroying the game I loved. And also legal betting on college sports.
With horrific officiating who knows if money is involved.

NIL is bringing plenty of parity to college football (especially in the SEC). Not quite even across the board - but getting there. This will produce an unintended consequence - with even talented teams (or at least those with a legit shot at the CFP), the focus will be on coaching (which includes player - recruiting, conditioning, development; game schemes; game adjustments; staff turnover; etc.). Those that do these well should win in most instances. Those that don't will quickly be found out.

I love the expanded playoffs - wish they would extend to 16. Prove it on the field and stop depending upon the "opinion" of a set of folks about who are the top 2 or the top 4.

Yes, there will be mismatches - though this season it has become apparent that NIL and the transfer portal is leading to a level of parity. Teams are not able to stockpile players, effectively limiting the access of great players to other teams.

It is going to be coaches securing the right fit for their team verses playing the "how many 5* can I recruit" game.

Are you sure you are not a Bama fan posing as a Vol fan? That is what the posts make you seem like - just saying.

Don't see it. We would have to win somewhere we haven't won in 22 years.
And that has zero to do with now. Just because teams in the past blew opportunities doesn’t have Jack squat to do with the present. Our coaches and players need to tune out the miserable negative crowd and go out and play football. Florida is just another team and another game. We need to take care of our business, we’re better than they are and we need to go out and prove it. This past is the past, it simply doesn’t matter. What matters is going out every Saturday and taking care of business! GBO!!!!
