This staff's qb recruiting

FWIW: Mauer's team gave up PB numbers to opponents just about every week. He put up good numbers against defenses knowing West Port had to throw to stay in the game. Will he be 'the man?' I don't know, but he seems to have the tools. Regardless, CJP preaches the need for internal competition, so I expect we'll take QB's with potential as long as there is a spot open.

VolNation really gets confusing sometimes. We have a 4 star highly recruited QB playing right now, but every other thread is bashing him as not SEC level QB. They signed a QB last year, with little to no time to recruit, who is 3 star with the potential to be a good one. We have a 3 star committed now who has outperformed lots of higher ranked kids at the camps. And yet now we have a thread complaining about QB recruiting. Do we only need to go after 5 star kids or else shut down the program.

They got Shrout last year and they are bringing in Mauer in this upcoming class. What gives? Both guys are 3 stars and neither of them look very impressive when you look at their numbers. Is this staff just banking on not needing a new qb for a few years? Does Pruitt just know a diamond in the rough when he sees one? Or, do they not have the ability to recruit a better qb?
Last I checked, wasn’t Tom Brady a 3 star coming out of high school. Should tell you that stars don’t matter.

He played in one of the weakest divisions in Fl. He had 1 good camp showing and really hasn't done anything other than that. He's not the savior I feel. Just another Dormandy, Worley, Chryst, Compton type I feel. If he's as good as Cockrill was I'd be surprised.

I sure wish they could get a really good QB, like maybe the 3rd ranked Pro style (4th overall) in a class.

The vitriol, most of it unfounded, that this fanbase throws at any Vol QB is unreal and irrational. Next to the OC who can’t call plays better than a 2nd grader (according to volnation), the QB is the catchall for what ails the team and it’s lack of success. Incredible reactionary, kneejerk stuff. Worley sucked, Dobbs sucked (until he was gone that is), Dormady sucked and, of course, JG sucks. Next, Shrout/Maurer/Bailey will suck and be the root of all Vol evil, no matter how well they may play. Just the way it works around here.

... and 8 hours later we get a commitment from a 4 star QB (class of 2020).

Not impressive numbers? Lol did you even seriously look up Mauer's number? Here's a hint... They're good. We now have JG, Shrout, Maurer, and soon to be Bailey all on the team competing at the same time come 2020. That's good talent and great competition. If you don't love where we are at at Qb right now you're crazy.
