Shrout was a last minute get who you can pickup. Maurer put up some great numbers. They got Shrout last year and they are bringing in Mauer in this upcoming class. What gives? Both guys are 3 stars and neither of them look very impressive when you look at their numbers. Is this staff just banking on not needing a new qb for a few years? Does Pruitt just know a diamond in the rough when he sees one? Or, do they not have the ability to recruit a better qb?
Crompton was a 5* and look how that turned outThe truth is Mauer showed at the elite 11 that he is a top QB. The fact is he’s committed to UT and hasn’t even glanced at others showing interest. I don’t think the recruiting pundits like this.
He played for a very mediocre HS team and still put up impressive numbers.
Lastly, QB ratings seems to be one of the most skewed. The NFL is full of 3 star QBs and there are tons of 5 star busts.
Hopefully, I will get a Porche for Christmas!drew breeze was a three star. 1/3 the starting qb's were 3 star are less examples: Dak Prescott, Josh Allen, josh McCown, and Carson Wentz. how they play in High School is not a good barometer of future success as a qb. Development is the key. Look at J.G. for example, he has all the tools but is slow in developing. Hopefully he will develop next year.
What competition was he playing and how many interceptions did he throw?
If Mauer was committed to 'bama or the Gators he would suddenly become a 5 star with "can't miss" potential. It is politics at it's finest. They got Shrout last year and they are bringing in Mauer in this upcoming class. What gives? The problem is Tennesssee hires 3* coaches and recruits 3* players and hopes they can out coach and out play 5* coaches with a roster loaded with 5* talent.drew breeze was a three star. 1/3 the starting qb's were 3 star are less examples: Dak Prescott, Josh Allen, josh McCown, and Carson Wentz. how they play in High School is not a good barometer of future success as a qb. I like the earlier post about completion % records. I know I have tried to add actually data to comments I make from time to time. I use statistical analysis every day in my engineering duties. Several on here, yourself excluded for certain, only want anecdotal evidence that supports their baseless beliefs. Name recognition, Star Power, how they look in a uniform to name a few that are thrown around.Based on? Anything? Or just more of those uncanny message board analyst skills?
Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Give this man his prize. The fans also get themselves lathered up just enough to think it's possible to beat teams with lesser players. Usually doesn't work out as we've seen over the past decade. The problem is Tennesssee hires 3* coaches and recruits 3* players and hopes they can out coach and out play 5* coaches with a roster loaded with 5* talent.
