We really won't know how good this team is until after the Vanderbilt game.

Oh man! You aren't kidding. It's every flippin' day...multiple times per day. Everything is saturated. Same down your way?
Yea man. 21 years here and I've never seen this. Its coming down sideways right now and has been for an hour and like you say, every day several times a day for almost 2 weeks. Crazy.

I suppose his general premise is valid. We may all believe - based upon some evidence - that we have playmakers, but they will have to demonstrate results on the field.

However, I do love that he shoots a hole in his own argument against coaching mismanagement. He says you can't always blame the coaches, and then highlights that Ty Chandler only received twelve carries a game last year. Well, we all saw that when he has the ball in space, Chandler can be a game breaker. The catch he took to the house at Georgia is Exhibit A to that effect. Does Caleb think it was good coaching on Helton's part that only got the ball to him twelve times a game?

Oh well, at least we'll get to find out soon.

SIAP, but I didn't read through this article. I would be glad to be the underdog this season just to surprise some people. Maybe if we were, the team would get a chip on their shoulder.

They are building a SR. living facility (imagine that?!) next to where I live an I'm waiting for all the equipment to sink.

I read the article and all the post from VN pertaining to it. The truth is, with this staff and the present recruiting class, (CJP's 1st), it's simply a matter of time before our football team begins to start winning again. I think we'll have a bad stretch mid-season but that experience alone will greatly improve this team. Hopefully to the point of getting some more good recruits on board for 2020. I agree with the many who feel there is less hype this year as in past years and the few who feel we're going to Gainesville and play some helluva football. This team needs to stay outta that "cold trailer" if they want to accomplish that imo.

I wish I got paid to have stupid opinions.

I can't imagine most of these people make that much. I would be surprised if he wasn't a regular employee somewhere (I'll be nice), and then writes in his free time. I mean really, most of us on here that are deep into football could write these articles. But I like to have nice things, like a roof over my head and food, so I'll stick with my current job.

Tennessee football: No reason to believe fall camp stories hyping up Vols

Hard to argue against his point of view, but I do think we will see a much more competitive team this year.

This season needs to start...
I knew as soon as you posted it who wrote it. Caleb Calhoun is a wannabe journalist who thinks being a contrarian makes him smart. He's all the time making dingus takes. Do yourself a favor and don't read anything he writes. Clicks only ensure his confidence in career choice.

I love journalism that tells other people how they should feel or think
Its opinion journalism. Its supposed to tell people how to think based on the author's opinion. Unfortunately this team in the past has given anyone who doesn't bleed orange reason to seriously pump the brakes. He is entitled to his wrong opinion. Personally I think we go 8-4 on the season and end up in the Outback Bowl.

This team is definitely more talented, and if several of the freshman play above their experience level, we may have a good season. Not that the author is wrong, but I don't believe we will repeat the 5-7 season we had last year. This season will be an improvement, its just by how much. I could see anywhere from 7-10 wins.

you're not missing anything. i haven't read it either, but based on the comments i've seen it's another "hey, don't get your hopes up, this year is no different than any other year, just let the hype train pass you by" type deal.

like he's doing a public service.

because thinking this team can go 7-5 is just too much hype to handle, and we need to be saved from ourselves...........

feel better?

man, i know i do.

Yeah.
Given this comment.
(I didn't open the link, pilfered this from a poster on the first page)
All of this is to say don’t get too excited about the insane hype behind some of Tennessee football’s weapons this year.
You would think UT fans are expecting JG to win the HT and go 12-0.

Not that its a surprise, most of these types set up a false stance to start a story anymore.

Truth stings. Dude is telling it exactly like it is.
No. Several of you have said that in different ways but he isn't "telling it exactly like it is". He strung some mostly unrelated events from the last few years together and then drew some conclusions. Part of his conclusion is that Pruitt is a continuation of Jones so what he did last year should in no way be mitigated by it being his first year. Yeah, Helton had success elsewhere. But truth be told... his OL at WKU was probably bigger, stronger, better developed, and better trained than the one he inherited from Jones. You cannot ignore that handicap. You cannot ignore the fact that JG had either been very poorly coached and developed or simply could not "get" reads and catch up to the speed of the game.

The only thing necessarily "true" about it is that it is truly his OPINION... and not fact.

IMHO, the reports out of this camp have been fairly muted. A few nice comments about a few guys but "hype"? Is Pruitt even capable of "hyping" someone without then qualifying it with "but he still has a long ways to go"?

The reason to believe or not believe in this season comes down to something he evaded. The OL and DL. The OL is bigger and stronger. That was the majority of their problem last year. They were trying to block guys who were bigger and stronger than they were. I think Pruitts said that something like 3 OL's this time were over 300 in reality and this year it is 11?

The DL is just a huge enigma. They have SEC size and athleticism. But none have really played. Hopefully it helps that UT gets two warm ups before getting to an OL that really has the ability to give them a big challenge.

Very truthful article unfortunately. Really can't see one instance where he is blatantly incorrect. I hope we right the ship this year, but as a jaded VOL fan I am afraid that I will have to use the old saying...…

I'll believe it, when I see it.

Yeah. There's actually a lot of faulty logic. For one, he links the "hype" under Jones to Pruitt then says that because Pruitt/Helton didn't rebuild UT's O from the mess it was under Jones... that means that the good things said about various players must have been false.

I'm not one who thinks a high level program like UT and especially with the instate recruiting liabilities UT has can be "patient". I think Jones left some talent. But Jones' coaching, S&C, and player development were abysmal. I'm willing to give Pruitt a little more rope before declaring any good "hype" about players to be delusion or lies.
