Tuesday is about time for Vol Nation to snap / clear, and be all about Pittsburg. If we want to be winners, it's time to encourage the best out of every player who'll wear the orange next Saturday. After the game we can analyze or autopsy those results and seek our needed therapy.

2 scenarios - we have 3 QB’s , like you said,
Or we have none.
I hope you’re right.
I also know some QB’s shine in practice but can’t get it done in games.
I just hope the others get in sooner rather than later if the practice champ isn’t getting it done

Correct. Here is VN logic.

Milton played bad. His stats were not good. We won by almost 5 TDs. Well what do you expect BG is terrible.

But…..

If we would have won and Milton had 300 and 4 TDs, the narrative would be well he should have thrown for more because BG is terrible.

It's pretty simple really -
If we get good quarterback play and have an effective and efficient passing attack - we will be happy with the quarterback position.
If we complete 2 passes in the second quarter, none in the third quarter, and one in the fourth quarter - we will not be happy with the quarterback play. It doesn't matter if it is JG, Peyton, or someone in between - we aspire to see good quarterback play. In fact, I think it might prove to be important at some point in the season.
Just saying.

He completed 3 passes after the first quarter - for about 60 yards. He drew comparisons to JG and the early starter last season at Michigan - oh wait .

Agreed - plus we are fresh off of Pruitt and JG - that adds to the burn and the skepticism that they may not know what they are doing over there.

We can only hope and pray for improvement.

That's perhaps the problem for Bailey in Heupel's offense.

While this offense was new to all the QBs, Milton and Hooker had seen offenses change before...... just experience seeing a new coach come in and radically change things and they could be more comfortable with changes. Maurer and Bailey had never seen that.

Bailey isn't the kind of QB Heupel normally recruits. I'll confess, I don't know if he recruited Bailey but I'm betting he didn't (not that he'd have had a shot but he DID recruit Milton (albeit at Missouri) and Maurer, as I recall.) That's not to say Bailey isn't good but to say Heupel has "a type" of QB for his style of offense.

Bailey also is in an awful generation where the portal is EXPLODING in its effect on rosters. I was terrified for our defense until the coaches filled in positions from the portal. Pruitt reached for Hooker with JG, Bailey, Shrout, Maurer, and Salter in the room...... not that Pruitt has two functional brain cells to rub together as a coach..... but he could get a quality QB, not a Fields or Burrow, but a good, experienced QB from the portal. Heupel could get Milton and did. Bailey has seen the beginning of "musical chairs: roster version" and it didn't work in his favor this year.

Honestly, while I hope Bailey stays, other than possibly USCe, there's not a good landing spot for him in the SEC future, is there? Vandy? eek! If he wants to play in the SEC, it's going to be tough to step in somewhere, again, from scratch in a new system.

During the spring game he looked GREAT against scout team defense. Once he was put in with the 1s he was mediocre and didnt impress anymore. He has not performed aswell in fall camp as the other two. Thats just the cold hard fact. Lets look back to when pruitt first got here. Chaney and Pruitt tried getting Haynes King. Why do you think that is? If they thought they had their guy why would they try to go get another stud high school Qb? These coaches see things every day that WE DO NOT. I get some of you have the highest hopes for Bailey. Hell some of you have watched him since PeeWee football and thats ok. But to flat out say "This coaching staff needs to play Bailey before he transfers" is a bit overboard. We should listen and be patient with him and this staff. They know what they are doing. They havent had a failure at QB at any stop they have been to. Can we please wait and see how this stuff turns out before writing this QB and coaching staff off?

Posting this quote from Vol Army, I believe..... but well worth the read about Josh Heupel.

What they were saying about the Missouri offense/Drew Lock after game one of the Huepel time there.

1. Missouri’s offense is still a weakness: West Virginia hasn’t been noted for its defensive efforts in its time in the Big 12, and yet Mizzou could only get roughly 280 total yards through the air and on the ground. Drew Lock was just 23-for-51 on pass attempts with a yards per attempt of 5.5, and had just one passing touchdown on the day. The Tigers running backs were bottled up with no Tiger rusher eclipsing more than 70 rushing yards and while J’Mon Moore and Chris Black had themselves a day at receiver, they were still held relatively in check. This was a dismal effort to say the least that was padded in garbage time for Missouri and not one that will inspire many.

  • Couldn’t Sustain Long Offensive Drives
The Missouri Tigers had a game plan to force the tempo in the fast direction. Unfortunately, the plan failed. The offense went fast that’s for sure but the unit didn’t come up with enough points. A few key drops from wide receivers didn’t help either.
This game was hard to watch from a Missouri Tigers fan point of view. The game seemed entertaining at first but became a horror show before halftime occurred.

The lack of offense, defense and special teams added up to a beat down to the hands of a team that replaced Missouri in the Big 12. The former SEC East Champions of 2014 seem long gone. Maybe I’m too mad due to last years epic failure of a season. Of course, one game doesn’t make a season.
Huepel didn't bench Lock then, and he didn't when Lock went 4-18 for 39 yards vs Florida. He started the next week. If he believes Milton is the guy for the future, look for him to keep playing him. Unlike both prior coaching staffs who played JG come hell or high water, Huepel has a much better record with QBs in recent times.

He and his minions are going to ride that bad thumb crutch as long as they can. If he was INJURED and INEFFECTIVE DUE TO INJURY MICHIGAN wouldn't have put him out there. There should be ZERO excuses for bad QB play by Milton at UT, ZERO! He's Heupel's pick, he's Heupel's product now, bad thumb last year or not. It's a freakin' excuse, get to playing better or get on I40 and get out of town.

Are we still there? Seriously.....There is not a single provable metric that shows HB is better than either of the other 2 QB's ahead of him. All 3 of the guys that have been ahead of him the past 2 years have had a lot more experience and arguably better stats in the games they played. On top of that 2 coaching staffs that saw them in practice picked other QB's over him 2 years in a row.

For all, I know this guy might be the next Tom Brady. But, there is no evidence a logical thinker can point to that says it's a thing. If he does blow up no one today can point out anything he has done that makes them say 'told ya so it was obvious'. With Alvin Kamara, those things were there. Every time he touched the field. Same with Aria Foster ad Jamal Lewis. And honestly, many other vols that got drafted low and did well in the NFL. I don't hate HB. I respect all our players. I also respect our coaches and so unless I see something obvious I trust in their choices. I have never see HB in a game and he does something that made me go wow. The same is kinda true for all the other QB's but the fact the coaches chose them and iI have lots of game tape to watch of them gives me more comfort in them leading our team. I have never seen an HB game that made me go OMFG we need this guy...But anytime he gets in a game ad does not stink it up that game is compared to the incumbent QB's worst performance. If he came in and had a game miles ahead of any game any other QB he is competing against ever had.. I'm game for a conversation. Hasn't happeed. his best games have been ok-ish.

All I am saying is let the season play out how it plays out. Let us support all our players ad coaches, positively. I think HB has a ton of potential and hopefully when it's time for his number to be called he shows that. To end this long rant for those that don't know I would like to ask a question. How many of you have seriously watched the game tape of Hooker and especially Milton at their last stops and also looked at the information that puts it in perspective? I'll give a sneak peek. Look at Miltons game tape from Michigan.. it's not that impressive. until you realize the fact that after that first game he played with a jacked-up thumb on his throwing had EVERY game. His stats were not good or bad... but for a guy with a bum thumb, they were impressive.

“Let the season play out” is where you’re losing focus. We have a handful of winnable games to begin the long process of getting decent recruits to take notice. 150 yards against Bowling green is alarming. If that plays out for a season we’re done for quite awhile.
