College football has turned into an Alabama stroke fest. Why and how we continue to show interest (As Tennessee fans) is beyond me. Sorry, off topic, but I needed to get it off my chest.

Beyond love for CFB and Tennessee....

The way I justify it in the Bama era of dominance is this:

Saban will retire, and Alabama will fall back to the pack. But once they do, every single SEC school is going to pound them as long as they can for the 15 consecutive years here that Bama has lorded over the sport. Imagine how sweet it will be in a few years when they are 3-4 coming to Knoxville and down 45-10 in the 3rd quarter. Whoever is our coach better tell our players to never let Bama off the mat, and I hope every other school does the same.

Given all the QB drama by our fanbase i feel this needs to be put out there because some of us are too lazy to do research. Yes, Highschool stats are a fantastic base to go off of when recruiting. Yes Harrison Bailey had INSANE stats in High School. Once you step foot on campus all those stats DO NOT MATTER. You have to develop to read college defenses and run college football offenses that are wayy more complex than what you ran in highschool. Some guys come in and get it right away. Other guys come in and its like trying to drink from a firehose. Every player is gonna develop at their own pace. Bailey played in some games last year and looked OK at best. During the spring game he looked GREAT against scout team defense. Once he was put in with the 1s he was mediocre and didnt impress anymore. He has not performed aswell in fall camp as the other two. Thats just the cold hard fact. Lets look back to when pruitt first got here. Chaney and Pruitt tried getting Haynes King. Why do you think that is? If they thought they had their guy why would they try to go get another stud high school Qb? These coaches see things every day that WE DO NOT. I get some of you have the highest hopes for Bailey. Hell some of you have watched him since PeeWee football and thats ok. But to flat out say "This coaching staff needs to play Bailey before he transfers" is a bit overboard. We should listen and be patient with him and this staff. They know what they are doing. They havent had a failure at QB at any stop they have been to. Can we please wait and see how this stuff turns out before writing this QB and coaching staff off?
This needs to be said - I have watched Chitty Awful quarterback play for way too long. Multiple years and now multiple years plus one game. I feel like we have had awful qb play for about as long as Alabama has had great qb play. How is that working out for us and them ? I don't care if Harrison Bailey, Harrison Bailey's dad, Harrison Bailey's brother, cousin, Hooker, Milton, me, you, a graduate assistant coach, Johnny Majors back from the grave and in the single wing, or Elvis: can we not just please have some competent, borderline decent qb play and passing attack.

3 completions in 3 quarters against BG will not get it and it has nothing to do with anyone else on campus and everything to do with bad qb play and poor coaching.

I would have been happy had Milt looked like a 4th year guy instead of a project freshman with bad mechanics. He turned the ball over and was sacked 3 times. Couple that with Clark Kent, which he missed the key which should have went to the RB, and bad stats to boot .... Infamously he played good.... I can do it all quotes. Yeah bad first game. Now lets see what happens 2nd.

Here is my thing, ad sorry for the rant in advance. I see the depth chart at QB and remember the chart last year. HB could not eat out JG who most of VN thinks is the worst QB to ever walk earth last year. Shrout and Maurer were, realistically, just as much in any conversation about taking over as he was. This year as we speak he is 3rd string (admittedly some sites do list him as 2nd). Now Last year he was behind JG this year behind Hooker and Milton I am looking very hard trying to see why so much of the fann base is so stuck on this guy is the answer. What provable metric/talent does he possess none of them do? Experience? Not even close. Stronger arm? to really. Better command of the locker room? From all, I've seen that's not the case either. From all I can tell the only demonstrable advantages HB has over the other 3 is his initial rating out of high school (oops wait Milton was rated higher than him). so then all that's left is his lower melanin count. Are we still there? Seriously.....There is not a single provable metric that shows HB is better than either of the other 2 QB's ahead of him. All 3 of the guys that have been ahead of him the past 2 years have had a lot more experience and arguably better stats in the games they played. On top of that 2 coaching staffs that saw them in practice picked other QB's over him 2 years in a row.

For all, I know this guy might be the next Tom Brady. But, there is no evidence a logical thinker can point to that says it's a thing. If he does blow up no one today can point out anything he has done that makes them say 'told ya so it was obvious'. With Alvin Kamara, those things were there. Every time he touched the field. Same with Aria Foster ad Jamal Lewis. And honestly, many other vols that got drafted low and did well in the NFL. I don't hate HB. I respect all our players. I also respect our coaches and so unless I see something obvious I trust in their choices. I have never see HB in a game and he does something that made me go wow. The same is kinda true for all the other QB's but the fact the coaches chose them and iI have lots of game tape to watch of them gives me more comfort in them leading our team. I have never seen an HB game that made me go OMFG we need this guy...But anytime he gets in a game ad does not stink it up that game is compared to the incumbent QB's worst performance. If he came in and had a game miles ahead of any game any other QB he is competing against ever had.. I'm game for a conversation. Hasn't happeed. his best games have been ok-ish.

All I am saying is let the season play out how it plays out. Let us support all our players ad coaches, positively. I think HB has a ton of potential and hopefully when it's time for his number to be called he shows that. To end this long rant for those that don't know I would like to ask a question. How many of you have seriously watched the game tape of Hooker and especially Milton at their last stops and also looked at the information that puts it in perspective? I'll give a sneak peek. Look at Miltons game tape from Michigan.. it's not that impressive. until you realize the fact that after that first game he played with a jacked-up thumb on his throwing had EVERY game. His stats were not good or bad... but for a guy with a bum thumb, they were impressive.

3 things

1. Play the player who gives you the best chance to win and let the dominoes fall where they may

2. Probably likely at this point Bailey transfers after the season, but back to point #1. As long as you are playing the best player, you still win bc you still have the better QB

3. Milton transferred from UCF and we all saw what he could do last night. Kid has the it factor. Everyone pulling for that kid.

Will start with the better topic first.
Milton from UCF is an inspirational story. That is freaking awesome and everything that is right with College Sports in general. I want to see that kid succeed and it was cool to hear his former Coch in Heupel talk about that .
2. I Agree Bailey will likely transfer, sucks for us cause the kid can play. But I do not blame him for leaving if he does.
3. We really don't know who the best guy is. My belief is if the competition was so close like Heupel said why we didn't see another guy until the last series ? Specifically with JM obvious struggles ? Good way to show the others (HH and HB) you don't really believe what you have said to the media about believing you can win with them. BG was the perfect scenario to see exactly what they look like live. But hey I am not CJH, just kinda a head scratcher

I don't care who starts or plays best. I just want a QB that hits the open man, throws the ball away when there is nothing there and buys time with his legs to find the open man.

I have confidence in the coach until he proves he doesn’t deserve it any more. Heupel has earned more than 1 half of football before I second guess him. He knows what he wants to do. Getting Milton as many reps in game as possible makes sense to me.

Alabama will go all in on Dabo only to be discarded by him as Bama offers nothing to him he doesn’t already have at Clemson (a program he built vs taking over someone else’s)……

While i think there will be drop off post Saban, I seriously doubt Saban isn’t gonna be involved in picking his successor

And patience…. About three of us around here have any of that stuff[/QUOTE. Well I get short of patience like the other fans sometimes but I’ve resigned myself this time to accept this is a 5 year rebuild and we still don’t know if we are getting hit with penalties and sanctions by the NCAA. We can’t keep going thru coaching searches every three years. I’m really hoping Heupel can bring some sort of stability to this program now.

OMG, you do realize the year that Peyton Manning was recruited, they also signed Brandon Stewart.
what does that have to do with this? I am talking about fans and forums today not coaches chioces almost 30 years ago.
