This has got to stop [referees]

I like the idea of transparency in the grading of SEC refs. Someone mentioned using the Freedom of Info Act to get some transparency. I'm usually not an easy believer in conspiracy theories, but after Saturday night's game, I'd really like to see the whole process on how the zebras are graded and held accountable. And if Gumps like Steve Shaw are doing the grading, they need to be exposed too.

Not upset about that call. The roughing call was total BS.

My bad Carter - you are correct. The roughing call was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. It was 3rd down and they were going to have to kick it but that bogus call gave them a fresh set of downs. I’m still mad about it

I waited til I had a chance to type this out and you'll have to forgive me because I am paraphrasing.

But, Florida was annually the most penalized team in the SEC for as long as I could remember. Pretty sure it was every year under Spurrier.

Anyway, one year Florida was playing a Vandy or Kentucky and you have to imagine the following in Spurrier voice as he said something like this.

"Yeah, I felt bad for Vandy, they had their backup tackle out there and a back up defensive end. We had our All-SEC tackle and he got a couple holding calls blocking their second string guy. But, their back up tackle was able to block our All SEC defensive end all game too, and he didn't get a holding call once. So, Vandy played pretty good I guess. Maybe those guys are All-SEC players, too. Who knows?"

Have you watched Florida play? They should be the most penalized team.

The only problem I have with officiating is there’s no middle ground... They either call EVERYTHING or nothing, and when it’s all or nothing calls get missed all the time due to the extreme nature.

The refs just need to chill on the whistle, if this happened game changing calls would become minimal.

Yeah, the roughing call was bad.

I’ve seen people get baptized more forcefully that that.

I thought the targeting call was correct.

After watching it again I tend to agree with the targeting call. I don’t know what Bituli was supposed to do different, but it’s the rules and it was enforced correctly.

However. The personal foul on Taylor was awful. The stoppage of the clock in our wildcat formation was awful and there still hasn’t been an explanation for it. The absolutely non-existent hold that negated a TD was awful. They play right before the half that only took one second was absurd.

If you go back and look at the game, every time we sniffed the 5 yardline penalties were called, and at one point there were 3 different flags on the same play inside the 10 yardline. It’s really really hard not to think it was coordinated and they didn’t know who was supposed to throw the flag in that case so we got three from three different officials for what I think was two different fouls.

The whole thing was egregious. Almost like once Tua was out and they had trouble moving the ball then the refs really started to help out and couldn’t even keep it coordinated or hidden very well.

The officiating that game stunk to high heaven and there needs to be an inquiry into it or an explanation offered. Especially if there was nothing to all of it. Because right now it all looks suspect at best and criminal at worst. The conference really should get out ahead of this and set the record straight.

I’m more than open to evidence and explanations, and right now the evidence is overwhelmingly pointing in one direction. Everyone that doesn’t wear Crimson or has two eyes should be able to see what was going on.

Threaten to leave the conference unless an entire new officiating staff has been hired and assured there would be no bias. Vols to the ACC if you ask me. South Carolina should come with us as well. Hell anyone that's not named Bama, UGA and Florida might as well too.

Your avatar literally tells me all I need to know about your football knowledge. Please don’t start threads like this, it’s kind of embarrassing.

I’ve been watching football for many years, and I’ve seen plenty of bad calls that changed the final
outcome of some of those games. However, I’ve never seen anything close to the blatant biased calls for Alabama that we all saw this past Saturday night.

I Have been so bothered by the ridiculousness, that I’ve tried to come up with some sort of explanation for what transpired. I can chalk up the officials making these horrendous calls to 5 different main reasons....

1. Refs are betting for or against one of the teams. As the popularity and $$ of sports betting have increased, so have the number of those betting.

2. Refs are being paid off by someone to ensure their team wins, or a rival team loses. It seems too simple and too crooked to believe but this is a very real possibility.

3. Refs all grew up playing sports, so they are all fans of certain teams and don’t like other rival teams. This causes them to have a secret agenda that very much influences their calls. If I was a Ref, I know I could not be honest in a TN game, no way.

4. Refs are nonpartial, just influenced by events that happen in that particular game, like a coach yelling at them, making them mad, doing a make-up call for a previous bad call, home crowd, etc. Some coaches are experts in “working” and manipulating the refs during the game.

5. SEC top bosses are telling the refs who to make the calls for, and the fix is on. This is one of the top conspiracy theories but it’s actually less believable bc it would probably leak out and it never has. However, it’s possible that some element of this exists somehow, like maybe just hiring refs who are known Bama fans, and placing certain bias refs in certain games to help ensure outcomes.

6. Refs are just horrible refs. This is also unlikely bc the top teams are getting most of the calls when it counts. Although it’s been like this for several years, it seems to be getting worse all the time.

I really believe that Referees need to be consistent and accountable, just like Pruitt said. So Referee Reform needs to be figured out and implemented, to help reduce this escalating problem in the SEC.

I pissed about the refs too but let's pump the brakes. Tennessee doesn't need to go anywhere, just get better at football.

This is true. Referees can impact individual games and that stinks when it’s your team that gets the short end. However, our team needs to get to a point where it’s winning 9, 10 and preferably more games per year. It’s been a while but I recall Bama fans complaining every year about Tennessee and Fulmer always getting protection and cover from the SEC office. I think they called Fulmer Teflon Phil. Do we really think the majority of Bama, Gator, and LSU fans have been talking with relief about all the crazy calls they got in their favor Saturday? I’d say Gator and Tide fans are more likely complaining about how underwhelming their teams played against inferior opponents. If Tennessee is up by 20 or more points in the 4th quarter on Bama no one cares if the officials make a bad call that causes the final score to be narrower. Hopefully we’ll once again be spoiled fans and our team the darlings of the SEC Official’s Office. Then the gator fans on our board can complain about Tennessee getting all the calls. Just kidding ... but not really. 😎

It appears we have an officiating problem in the SEC and it showed at least 2 times on Saturday (Tn vs Ala / Florida vs South Carolina. Both coaches from Tn and South Carolina were not happy with the officiating. I am sure these were not the only games where this happened!!!!

It’s called favoritism. There are haves and have nots in this league. We are a have not until we prove otherwise.

#5 for me also. I lean toward the conspiracy theory that SEC office wants highest rated teams to keep winning to maximize conference playoff/bowl $$$.

Also add #7 that it is human nature for Refs to make calls for the teams they believe are the better teams.

If I could be head of SEC Officials .. I would instruct all Officials to only call Holding, PI, personal fouls, etc. if it is blatant enough that even the other coach admits it was a foul when he sees the replay. No more phantom calls that lead fans to believe the Refs are biased.
