Used to have an XBOX360 and played a lot of MW and MW2 with people on here a few years ago. Got rid of it. Now I'm considering getting one again, or even maybe a PS3. However, I don't have internet.

With that, are the single player games really worth it? Thinking about getting Skyrim and AC3 to start with. No plans of ever playing online, or really playing a ton at all. What are some suggestions? How are the newer 360 systems? Any issues with PS3? I'll probably go used, just to save some coin.

Both systems have their issues with malfunctions, so don't let that sway you. The new Xboxs are much more reliable than the old ones.

Here is how I break it down:

Xbox:

+great controller for shooters and racing games
+I know it isn't a concern for you but, the online play is great, and is worth $60
+ESPN if you get xbox live gold, lets you show games on espn3 on your tv

-D-Pad on the controller stinks, so fighting games are not well suited for it.
-Netflix UI is a bit weird to me
-No Blu-Ray

PS3

+Controller works well for fighters
+plays blu-ray
+Online is free
+Netflix UI is great

-Online blows in comparison to XBOX, no party chats, no one has a mic, slow to respond and awkward to navigate
-I don't really care for many of the exclusives
-I hate the controller for racing games

Single player games are still great.

I'll eventually get either the newest Forza or Gran Tourismo, which one would you suggest? Leaning towards the 360 because I don't even have an HDTV to make use of the BluRay and I have controllers/games left from my old system.

Forza has more style, better presentation and better online, Gran Turismo is much deeper as a single player experience.

If you don't have an HDTV at this point, spend the money on that, IMO.

The amount I actually watch tv is... Well, I don't even have a converter box if that helps. Just dvds when the lady comes over, and that usually last about 10 minutes until we stop paying attention.

Text, menus and various graphical details on video games these days are such that you need an HDTV to have one of these systems even be functional.

I had a 360 and PS3 hooked up to a 30" tube and it was pretty much worthless, there were menus and what not on virtually every game that I couldn't read

Forza, has to be.

I own both, and I know that there is a depth to GT5, but it feels like a game of half assed ideas. Forza is much more fun to play more of the time, and it feels 10x better with a controller than GT5 does with a controller.

Also GT5's engine noises sound terrible.

you could just save your dough for a PS4 or Xbox 720.

Both are due out next year

This is a very good point, I did have trouble with quite a few games.

If you plan on getting skyrim then get the 360. I have both systems and i am equally satisfied. You don't have internet connection so I won't go there. If skyrim wasn't so jacked up on ps3 then i would tell you to get the ps3. I love the blu ray and the games. But, 360 has skyrim and that might be the best game ever made.

If you're getting a 360, and looking for a single player, I highly recommend Darksiders 2. Just finished it, it took a lot of time to play and wasn't too easy or too hard. It has elements of Zelda, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, and Ninja Gaiden in it. Very cool and quite frankly badass game.
