The Weightlifters Thread

I think if I can just come up with a plan that involves building strength, but more losing weight, it will help.

If I lose the weight and start to get in better shape, I will be in the gym more and be more likely to work out more.

Basically, the key is... getting off my ass and making it happen.

Its all about how you work the muscle, strength will increase. Slow and controlled reps, concentrate on the muscle. Too many people do not work the muscle they are supposed too, (i.e. bicep curls- people cheat and involve shoulders from the beginning).

Cheating on curls actually comes from the hips. That's why I like doing seated preacher curls with a lap belt -- forces you to do them properly.

And yes, it's a very good habit to focus on "squeezing" the muscle you're working out.

Not as many as I should. I've had a lazy streak that I haven't been able to shake. So far, I've only lifted once this week. You?

I was just gonna say working each body part once per week is enough. I been on a lazy streak lately but I usually go anywhere from 2-5 times per week.

I agree, but when I see people cheating on the first rep then that is not beneficial.

Yeah, when I do cheat curls, I'll do it with a weight I can do 4-5 times without cheating, and then I'll cheat the first part of the positive and bust out 5-6 more. Focus is on the negative.
