I do like hammer strength/plate load machines. Beyond that I never got into machines too much.
so what do you get: low weight & high reps vs. high weight & low reps
It really doesn't matter. You're gonna get stronger & more defined before anything & then hit a plateau before you start packing on mass. Then again if you gotta worry about getting too big you probably don't need to lift. Ususually it's just uninformed skinny guys who think lifting a few weights will magically blow them up.

i'm a golfer. i don't want to pack on a bunch of mass, but i want to get stronger. i've heard a lot of personal trainers for golfers say to go with lower weights and higher reps. so why do you think that is?
